Can't wait to read it.
I'm talking mainly about the DC and Marvel universes, but any medium that uses superheroes can qualify. It's kind of frustrating for me as I have Quite a lot of Fandoms, but the only ones that are discussed are LOTR , Harry Potter and sometimes Doctor Who. The few times I have tried talking about superheroes I've been pretty much ignored. And I have not found good luck finding missions of that variety on the wiki. I don't mean to sound rude, I'm just a little annoyed. Nothing Personal. In fact I would be pleased if we used this post to just rant about superheroes.
...I am a big fan of the various DC animated universes. I've collected almost all of the DCAU or "Timmverse" on DVD or digital (the exceptions being Static Shock and The Zeta Project, neither of which I had much interest in). And while I don't write "mission" missions anymore, I have been considering whipping up some MSTs in something like Young Justice or Teen Titans. Goodness knows there's enough badfics in either continuum to sate me for the foreseeable future.
I was never really able to get into the Marvel cartoons as much. I do enjoy the movieverse, though. The last film I saw in theaters was the new Captain America one, which I thought was pretty solid.
Finally, getting away from Marvel and DC, I'm a big fan of the superhero tabletop RPG Mutants and Masterminds. I haven't admittedly tried the third edition rules (all my sourcebooks and world-fluff are second edition) but it's pretty fun. The predecessor of Gremlin actually started out in part as my character in a Young Justice-style campaign.
So... yeah. Superheroes. They're pretty cool. And stuff.
...and a bunch of other canons, but I digress.
It's actually sort of in the finishing touches stage right now. I think I need to write up one additional scene at the beginning, and then it's off to find a beta for it.
But yeah, there is quite a dearth of Marvel Universe sporkings around here, and that needs to change at some point...
I just watched Days of Future Past about an hour ago. :D
Can't wait to read it.
The only person I know that might know enough to do a mission to the comics!verse, is Datajunkie (Nifar on IRC), and I believe he'd say he still wouldn't risk it. There are a few missions. I'm not sure if those are in the movie!verse or comics!verse, though.
If you read this, Data, my kids still say you are their hero when it comes to comics and such. :D
On the other hand, I love to talk about comics. Especially the various cartoons based on them, and I love the movies. I love reading the movie!verse fanfic.
Have you read the Marvel Now Captain America comic? I have the first story arc (1-10) for that, and it is awesome!
I've been working on an Avengers (movie) mission for a while now. I think if I ever do actually get around to doing missions regularly then I could probably pull off a few comic missions too. Fortunately, comics mostly just require knowledge of the characters and the cities, and you only have to worry about events if something specific is referenced or it relates directly to how a certain character came to be where they are now. (Like Rogue becoming a hero, or Dick Grayson leaving Batman to become Robin.)
The reason for this is, amusingly, the reason why so many people are intimidated by comics: Because there's just so much history. When it comes to fanfiction, this means you have more to draw from, and also that you don't really have to specify when your story is happening, unless it is drawing on something specific, because there's so much room for things to have happened at any point. If you want a story where Robin is still Dick Grayson, that's cool, and nobody would look at you weird unless you referenced events that happened after Dick quit to do his own thing.
I guess my point is that comic-based missions would probably be easier than people think, it doesn't really require much more knowledge than any other mission, and I'd be more confident with comics than I would with, say, LoTR since I know the material better.
Pleased to meet you. If I may ask do you prefer DC or Marvel? I'd also like to ask your favorite hero/pairing/team?
No I have not read the new Captain America series. I read the Marvel Now Young Avengers. That help?
Whose your favorite character/pairing/team? (You don't have to choose just one)
Superhero: Nightcrawler(Surprise!) Rogue(Had a huge effect on Little!me) Emma Frost, Barbra Gordon (starred in first comic I ever read) Gambit, Blue Beetle, Cass Cain, Black Canary, Wasp, Kitty Pryde. Impluse (YJ versions just so crash) Raven, Scarlet Witch. There's way more but this list is too long
Pairing: Dick Grayson (As Nightwing)/ Starfire Nightcrawler/Scarlet Witch, Raven/Jericho,
Blue Beetle/ Impluse Wiccan/Hulking
Team: Young Avengers, Teen Titans.

I've not dealt with DC much at all.
The X-men cartoon from the 90's was my first comic introduction. I completely fangirled over Gambit. I'm still awfully fond of him.
Hawkeye is my current favorite. He's such a smarta**. Like no matter what happens to him he has commentary. I was disappointed with his part in the movies, and I really worry how they are going to treat his character in the next movie.
We are behind on Young Avengers. We (not a royal we, my oldest's special interest is Marvel) have up to issue 11. I love kid!Loki.
Have you seen Marvel Now The Secret Avengers? issue 1? Man I wanted to kill Coulson and Fury!
It's actually a Doctor Who x Justice League crossover, but still.
The thing is, though, people only spork the fics they feel like sporking. Most of us have certain criteria, and fandom is only one part of it. If there aren't many superhero fics, or Hobbit fics, or [insert fandom here] fics that are bad enough, funny enough, weird enough, or character-building enough to tickle anyone's murderous fancy, then there aren't going to be many missions there. It's very nearly as simple as that.
Nobody talks about Farscape, either, and it's my favorite TV show of all time. That fandom is where I got the carapace on my smiley. {= ) There's only one mission there, and that's because the fandom is pretty small and pretty intelligent, so the worst we get is usually just mediocre, not mission-worthy. Otherwise I'd be all kinds of all over that.

Just give me some criteria for what you would want in a Farscape crackfic and I might be willing to generate one just to make fun of.
I'd need a beta to help put IN bad spelling errors, though I might manage some more subtle mistakes on my own. ;)
I'm thinking Rigel be replaced by Oscar the Grouch or Miss Piggy (either personality or body as well.) And take one of the Acid-trip characterizations and have that in place all of the time. And have the Mary-Sue in love with Scorpius and turn him into a woobie; or I could try to write something without adding an OC for once.
First: OMG another Farscape fan hi you are awesome who is your favorite character what's your favorite episode can I hug you?!
Ahem. Now that that's out of the way...
I'd PPC my own old fic (click if you dare) before I got desperate enough to ask someone to create badfic on purpose! Anyway, it would have to be a crossover, since my DIC team are the sci-fi experts. But thanks anyway (I think).
The woobie!Scorpius Sue thing isn't far off the mark, though. There are plenty of fics that have some OC hooking up with Scorpy. The PPC'd fic had one, and the one I almost PPC'd back when I first joined had one. That one turned out to be too long to make into a mission though; the badness didn't really happen until quite far along, and eventually it got taken down. C'est la vie.

My favorite character is Namtaur and I bought a DVD just so I could stare at him. (Rig must have been painful for them to show so little of it.) I also liked Harvey though I didn't get to see all of his episodes.
I have favorite moments. Zan speed-painting, whatever acid trip made D'argo approach John and say "Chiana wants to watch," the two Johns and their rock-paper-scissors, the other pilot screaming about how they keep eating his arms, "Sputnik" explaining that she's allergic to translation microbes.
The Farscape crew on Earth have good bits.
Without remembering all of the episodes, I'd say that the cartoon-coma is a favorite.
I will probably binge on episodes when I get home to the better internet. I'm probably going to be making some horrible crackfic anyway so it might as well serve a purpose.
For some reason involving a prophetic dream, I thought up a perfectly good Stark/Crichton scene that could be blamed on Granny. I've already failed at sex fics so it would be all dialogue with no clue about what is actually happening.
Namtar is one of my favorite baddies-of-the-week. I love his voice. ^_^ I really wish they'd done more with the fact that Aeryn has some of Pilot's DNA. It came up a couple times, but mostly it was forgotten. Kinda like Pilot himself, poor guy.
My favorite episode might be "Out of Their Minds," the body-swap episode, because it's the first one I ever saw, and it got me hooked on the characters, especially Pilot. The acting in that episode is so awesome that it worked even though I had no idea who any of those people were at the time, and the bad guys were Skeksis. The Dark Crystal is hugely nostalgic for me, so that was a big selling point. And the fact that they weren't afraid to explore the dirty little things a person might have to do or want to do while stuck in someone else's body. {X D
Other contenders are "Crackers Don't Matter" and pretty much anything focusing on Pilot or Scorpius. (Favorite characters are apparent by now, yes?) All the John's Head episodes are great, too—"Won't Get Fooled Again" is the one with camp!D'Argo, and "Revenging Angel" is the one with the cartoon coma.
I also grew to love D'Argo a whole lot with successive viewings (and not just because of the miniseries). I think his character gets the most dramatic growth, and he has some of the greatest lines.
Man, I wanted to like Stark so much... I wasn't thrilled with the "actually loopy and full of bad ideas" route they took with his character. I wanted more mystical, caring Stark. I get that we already had Zhaan in the mystic/healer role, but she was already sort of in the unstable, role, too, what with occasionally flipping out and trying to kill everyone. O.o I would totally read a more-or-less-serious, more-or-less-platonic Stark/Crichton fic, if you write one. {= )

P.S. Watch out for the mini-Budongs! You've got a few there. {; )
Didn't see your post before I posted mine. I wish there were missions to Haven, but it's the same--small fandom, mostly good writers. I've found a few fics that are meh, but nothing truly bad (except this one fic on that new circle of lemmings site. I'm having trouble figuring out how to react to the pictures and horror of the site in general and the fic in particular.)
Farscape is on my Netflix list. I was thinking I'd watch it as soon as I finish Torchwood, so maybe soon there'll be another fan of it here on the Board. :)
Based on the fandom interests of yours that I know about, I think it's definitely right up your alley. Unlikely heroes, off-the-wall humor, cool aliens that actually look alien (the Jim Henson Company at its finest!), everybody has a story, nothing ever goes as planned, not afraid to tell a serious story while never taking itself too seriously... it's just really, really good. A few duds here and there, of course, but what series doesn't have any? {= )
Sorry for not responding to your last e-mail, by the way. I was busy cooking for 20+ people and getting handed a bunch of new responsibilities last weekend, and I've spent most of this week recovering. ^_^;

I have Quite a lot of Fandoms as well. Actually not really, but I've been branching out to continua that I know well enough to pick out canon breaches. I have had to do the looking myself because many of the reported fics are outside of my knowledge or skill.
As far as Superhero stuff, I would have to limit myself to Cartoon or Movie versions. Though I still have some comics dealing with canon universe ruptures that didn't last long. (Age of Apocalypse, Marvel vs DC)
I imagine that it would be easier to do Legend of Zelda as long as the original writer stuck with one version of canon.
I think we have had a few missions to deal with comic badfic, but the general consensus (at least in-universe) is that canon is so tangled up in its default state it's almost impossible to determine what fits in acceptably and what's Suefic/otherwise bad. Rather than chew the Board out for not talking about what you want to talk about, though, maybe take on a few such fics yourself? We don't have any rule against it. :P
Sorry if it felt that way. Is it okay to chat about superheroes?
