SC's calling for a group MST! by

I know, I know, it's like I'm obsessed with this stuff, bit it's fun! And if nothing else, it lets me blow off some stream while I'm working on my bigger projects, because otherwise I can't write anything and just get all twitchy and - it's bad, let's just say.
Anyhow, so I'd like to make a call for a group effort, because the last time one happened, it was fun and the results were absolutely hilarious.
Step one, of course, is finding a good fic that everybody can put a streak in riffing. Last time, it was a Doctor Who fic (which later led to a Specs and Co. MST of the same author), and almost everybody knew how to respond to the topic. If not, everybody went after the comically bad writing. In the end, somebody had something to say about something else.
So, if you're interested in signing on, and have a good fic idea, I'm all ears. -

So, all spots I'm allowing are taken, as of now.
I still can't do much without emails, of course, but if we're waiting until friday to do this, I am perfectly fine with waiting, since I'm in a crappy service zone anyhow and GDocs probably won't work where I am.
On that note, I'll catch back up with you guys on Friday! -

We haven't started, because I'm still short a fee emails, and nobody has come to a definite fic conclusion.
I said in my email that I'd start and let the late guys pop in later, but until I get some idea of what people are really set on MSTing, instead of several different opinions on several different fics, this thing might end up being in limbo.
Which I hope isn't the case - I hate when I start something and it falls out from under me, personally. -

Waiting list? Also: Suggestion by

Can you pencil me in on a waiting list? If it's too many agents, though, I understand.
Also, I'd like to suggest Agony in Pink, the Power Rangers torturefic. That thing's legendary. Someone printed it out and brought it to my middle school at LEAST ten years ago, so it's the only fanfiction I've ever held in my hands. Not for the squeamish, obviously. -
Can do. by

Better to be Crazy Prepared rather than understaffed, or something.
I'm not the best with the story of Power Rangers, but given the penis of every single series they've ever made, I'm pretty sure I could keep up with the action, so I'll keep it in mind.
Having it be seconded is a good buffer as well.
Ew... You held a badfic IN YOUR HANDS? I feel sorry for you. -

If you all are accepting, I think Daughter of Time would be a good fic to MST. Link here: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8738702/1/Daughter-Of-Time
It is a Percy Jackson badfic that is... bad. Really bad. Unfortunately, the spelling seems to be good, so no making fun of that. The grammar and storyline is all bad though, so thats good.
If not that, then why not do a classic: Half Life: Full Life Consequences. That is a fic ripe for the MST theater, no matter how many times it is made fun of.
Finally, my last suggestion is a little unusual. Mel Brooks once said, paraphrased: "It's easy to make fun of a bad fic, it's difficult to make fun of a good one." Therefore, for the challenge, I suggest we do a goodfic. Perhaps Better Living through Science and Ponies, or The Man With No Name from Doctor Who/Firefly. I can understand why you may not want to do that, but that is just a suggestion. -
To your suggestion... by

I think it's seen universally as kind of weird to go after a fic that isn't bad. I could certainly try it, but if I'm being completely honest, I'm not sure how it would work out.
Also, have you seen the youtube video for that Half Life fic? -
The better question is who HASENT seen that video. by

It is fantastic, on so many levels. Today is a good day to do what has to be done by me.
Yeah, I understand why it might be weird. I only threw it out there as a suggestion because I think I'm going to try it. Fallout Equestria I think, but I am not sure... Still, you want to go with badfic, do so. Just a thought. -
I'll stick with badfic for now. by

And the fic length usually doesn't matter, since MSTing it tends to lengthen the whole thing anyhow.
As will as the fact that some fics I've seen MSTed aren't complete either, so that's fine. -

How would we be doing this? by

As in, on the board, by email, carrier pigeons, or something even weirder? Cause I'd definitely like to participate, depending on whether my phone lets me or not. Not everybody knows the Canon, so we probably won't use it, but I recently read a Silmarillion fic that really needs to be sporked. It was Maedhros/Sauron slash (what is this, I don't even...) with descriptions like "their trees were rubbing against each other" or "he felt Taniquetil pushing against his opening". Taniquetil is a freakin' MOUNTAIN! Bad mental image right there... *shudders* If you want to use it anyway, I'll go find that fic again. I still know which site it's on, but I'm not about to go digging for it unless something good comes out of it...

Ah, OK... by
on 2013-03-19 12:07:00 UTC

I'll try anyway! Email should hereby be added. The bit with the mountain...well, that was one of many weird euphemisms for the penis. For example, "tree" is used quite often, as is "elfiness", and I believe there was a reference to "Sauron's dark tower" (no, not Barad-Dur, the -um- other one :-S) in there somewhere. One would think poor Maedhros suffered enough during his captivity without "towers" being shoved up him...

As you are likely aware, an MST is a form of commentary where readers interject their opinions in the middle of the story, as taken from the style of Mystery Science Theater 3000, for which this type of writing was named.
Done with one person, it's often times motte like an in-depth review of the story, but with groups it's akin to watching it in a theater and commenting over it.
Your job would be simply that - comment on a segment of writing where you deem appropriate. Wit is always welcome of course.
Example:
"omg! I screemd as voldimoret casd hiz spel"
SC: Because text speak is totally appropriate for a wizard duel between yourself and the dark lord, right? -
Sounds fun! by
