I was wondering if it is okay to write fan fiction for an OFU that already exists. Because it's not quite like writing a different OFU. And the OFU I had in mind was OFUM, which hasn't been updated since 2005, and I've heard Miss Cam is gone from the internet. And even if she wasn't, I'd be too scared to ask her.

Anyway, perhaps explaining my motivations would be in order. What with the last part of The Hobbit coming out, I thought the characters would have something to say about that in the OFUM setting. It wouldn't be anything huge, just a one-shot or a two-shot or something. Or maybe I shouldn't write it. Maybe someone else should. But anyway, I think it should be done.

If anyone knows of a way to contact Miss Cam, maybe she could be imposed upon to write something? Probably not, but a girl can dream, right?

Anyway, please share your thoughts on this.

And quite emphatically said that:
1) She doesn't want people to take over writing OFUM for her.
2) Borrowing OFUM characters for brief cameos in other stories are okay if used sparingly and credited to her. (for example, see my chapter on crossovers with The Hobbit at MBSFA. I'd link, but I need to go to bed)
3) She wants to write a Hobbit special; she's just really busy with the Once Upon a Time fandom. (Like, really busy. I get notifications from AO3 about her fics all the time.)

It would just create a lot of weird paperwork and whatnot if someone else takes over a pre-existing OFU. Just take a look at the original BSFA. I don't think they've ever recovered from the Course Coordinator handoff.

I understand why she wouldn't want other people to take over it, or even do smaller works that take place in it. I wouldn't either, if I wrote something like that.

Of course, to the second. Sometimes they appear in PPC stories, and I seem to recall a brief crossover with a different OFU.

It's awesome that she wants to do a Hobbit special, and I hope she does. Maybe I'll check out her OUAT fics. I didn't know that she did that, and I do watch the show.

Maybe I'm being air headed, but what's "BSFA?" (___ ___ Fanfiction Academy?)

While OFUs are being discussed, does anyone know if OFUR is ever going to be updated?

MBSFA is the Modern Baker Street Fanfiction Academy, which is for BBC Sherlock.

I don't know anything about OFUR; I'm not as close to Laburnum as I am with Miss Cam, so yeah.

There's at least one fic of hers that is ungodly long. I keep on getting notifications for it. She ships Snow/Charming and that makes up a majority of her works in the fandom.
