Please accept my offering of canned pudding!
Hi there!
As the title says, I'm new here. I found out about the PPC back in November 2013, when I was strolling though fanlore.org. At the time, I had just started my own fanfiction, and, as I now know, it was pure badfic. OOC characters and bad male slash, as well as angst paired with hurt/comfort in the worst way possible. Not that that would have occurred to me at that time, but as I read more about the properties of badfic on the wiki (and the ensuing fit of insecurity) I finally admitted to myself that I had written badfic.
That fanfiction now rests in pieces in data heaven (or, for that matter, hell).
So first of all thanks (I guess...) for making me notice the error of my ways before more harm could be done.
But that's the past. What counts is now! (Right?)
In preparation of this post I have read TOS, Origins, the handbook, the FAQs, the constitution and more wiki pages than I could count (but at least 100).
My fandoms are Harry Potter, Pitch Perfect, all books by John Green (except Let it snow, haven't read that one yet), the Hunger Games and the Inheritance Cycle. As for the latter, I now (after reading Kippurs sporkings) acknowledge that the story is majorly flawed, but I still enjoyed the books when I read them for the first time.
As an utter newbie, I have two questions:
1. Why do Jay and Acacia ask for a raise when they don't have the time to spend money between missions anyway?
2. How do flowers move? (move as in walk from one place to another)
Thanks in advance for answering! *gives out cookies*
PS: If my username is too similar to that of someone else, please let me know.
PPS: I know my way around HTML/CSS quite well, so if Neshomeh still needs help with her Navbar, I'd love to take a look at it.
Welcome to the PPC! Don't feel too sad about your badfic past; a lot of us have written badfic in the past.
As for your newbie gift...
Here, have a Bisharp! The odds should certainly be in its favor!
Please accept my offering of canned pudding!
I'm 99Hedgehog, but people call me 99 for short. Anyways, have a Hexrifle!

The Emperor Protects!
That's an awesome weapon!
By the way, who is the emperor you are referring to?
For your welcome gift, have a Muggle-use Wand from the Hogwarts Fanfiction Academy, and don’t worry about late responses. We have Boarders from all over the world, so there is actually no defined daytime.
Obviously I cannot use the time zone problem as an excuse for a late welcome; I just don’t visit the Board every day.
HG (who got a descriptive name in his native language).
Thank you so much!
I'll be careful with this, I promise. I really will. (Although, looking at my track record, that might not work as well as I hope...)
Welcome to the Board! Please accept this Bleeprin-dosed custard pie and collapsible unicycle. =]
--parp
Thank you so much!
*tries to use unicycle while still entangled in paracord, falls over again*
I should really stop doing stuff while wrapped in paracord...
Hey there! Fortunately for me, I was a child of the nineties with restricted internet access for most of the early 2000's, so any bad writing of mine is safely stashed in a taped-shut box under my bed. :D
Have some paracord, three dill pickles, a marble and a bent fork!
I have restricted internet on my PC as well, but that only made it worse, because I used to resort to my phone for publishing, and my phone has no spellchecker.
As for your gifts...
*gets entangled in the paracord, tumbles backwards, steps on marble and falls face-first into the dill pickles*
Let me get back to you on that.
Hi, have some fudge!
...and sorry for taking so long to respond. I'm hailing from Germany, and the whole time zone thing tends to be a bit annoying, as I am sleeping while it's daytime on the board.
I don't think your user name is too similar, no. If it invoked cats in any way, then we might have a problem, but as it stands, I doubt you'll confuse anyone. (preparing to be proven wrong in 3... 2...)
Seriously, though, welcome to the Board! Have an electric trident! Electric as in it shoots lightning from the tips, not as in it needs batteries. It's powered entirely by ill-defined magical energy, so you won't need to worry about charging it.
And to answer your questions:
1) Agents like to gripe about things. It helps get out some of the frustration that they feel after watching badfic mangle their favorite fictional worlds, which isn't always dispelled when a Sue gets a sword through the chest. Talking about getting raises and complaining that there's barely any time between missions any more are common manifestations of that. They're exaggerating about the lack of time, by the way. There's plenty of time between missions, as evidenced by the massive number of between-mission interludes that have been written over the years. It's just that the console could go off at any moment, so a lot of Agents don't feel that there's much chance to do anything.
As for the actual purpose of the money, I don't think anyone is entirely sure, but it might not be out of the question that the money could be used to purchase things at HQ's internal businesses, such as the Supply Depot or Rudi's Pub, or to purchase things from within the various continua that the Agents travel to. I doubt the Agents would ever have too high a need for the latter unless they were stranded there or something, though. Ailavyn Siniyash's idea about the Cafeteria once dispensing good food for money may be true as well. It sounds like something they'd do.
2) It's not really something that anyone tends to consider, usually, since there are a few dozen different species of Flowers and they all have their own individual ways of performing most tasks, moving around not being an exception. I'm pretty sure that a large potion of them drag themselves around on their roots or pull themselves forward with fronds, but there are some that don't have any appendages to speak of, or those that are simply too large to make doing so practical, plus individual personality quirks that might affect their choices. Maybe some would find pulling themselves across the floor demeaning, or some would prefer alternative options to the obvious ones. Knowing how the Flowers can get, I expect that at least a few push themselves around on some sort of skateboard/wheelchair contraption because wheels can go down long hallways faster, or even self-levitate with their psychic powers. I think that the Bracket Fungus could self-levitate, but admittedly I'm not entirely certain where I'm remembering that from.
hS created the Bracket Fungus, and he had a role in Crashing Down series. Perhaps you remember that he blasted enemies left and right with his psionic powers...
Oh boy! A trident! Even better, an electric one! That's awesome! At this rate, I think I'll be able to start a virtual weapons chamber soon.
And of course, thanks for answering my questions.
It's nice to meet you! Please accept my gifts of a potato cannon, a basket of potatoes, and an Official Fanfiction University of Doctor Who sweatshirt.
What's your favorite book by John Green?
Thank you for the gifts. I'll try my best not to annoy everyone by shooting potatoes at them. (It's so tempting though!)
I loved The Fault In Our Stars, though I'd have to say my favourite is Paper Towns.
Yay! Finally, Neshomeh and I aren't the only ones anymore! Hooray!
*bows before you*
Anyway... Ahem. Welcome to the PPC. We love newbies here, so take off your shoes, leave your sanity at the door, and come on in!
As a welcome gift, I'd like to give you this piece of music by one Harrison Birtwistle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KUoKyjy6u8
Just saying. (I think I may have misspelled Outhra's name, so if I did, I'll apologize now.)
Anyway, hello newbie! How are you? I hope you find our little community interesting and fun.
Now, to continue the tradition of giving virtual gifts. I will give onto you... A mockingjay watch! Sometimes the back randomly spins, but the time is still acurate.
Not really, anyway. I know how most of what the setting works, largely by cultural osmosis, but I've never read the books and I only saw one movie. I do own the official board game, but that's mostly because I am apparently the hardest person in my family to buy Christmas presents for, and someone opened the box before I could return it.
You might have been thinking of Herr Wozzeck. I'm pretty sure he knows the canon, since I remember him mentioning that he was planning on writing a Hunger Games mission for his Floaters during one of his post-mission author's notes. If that's the case... what's the single-word abbreviation for "embarrassment at the very thought of being mistaken for someone more accomplished than oneself"? Because I need that right now.
Sorry about that, though I would have sworn it was you. I think it was the mini-mutts discussion that made me think that, by me remembering who was part of it. It may have been KittyNoodles, but I would have sworn...
Ah well, doesn't mater. My point still stands that there were more then two Hunger Games fans on the board before FloatingMyon came around.
(Speaking of which, do Hunger Games fans have a name? Like, MLP fans are Bronies, Star Trek fans are Trekkies or Trekkers, Doctor Who fans are Whovians, ect. Do they have that? Let me see... Well, TV Tropes tells me it's either Tributes or Mockingjays. Huh. The more you know, I guess.)
...the thing is, I'm totally lost on how to tighten up one of them, and the other one is recently completed. Either way, I need beta-reading.
*hint hint*
Er, that is, I'm fairly sure I'm not about to be swamped with school work...well. Hopefully I won't be. It's still January, after all...yeah, should be fine. *tosses threatening look towards the Ironic Overpower*
I've read all three books at least twice--the most recent reading was sometime in the past year--and saw the first movie when it came out. I should be able to follow everything, although I've probably forgotten a few of the more minor details.
dawnfire360(@)gmail(.)com, if you'd like multiple betas...
...er, not to say that I myself am more than one beta. I am definitely only one beta...
~DF
I dare to offer my insane attention to detail and some of my prcious spare time.
But be warned:
I don't have any canon sources at hand.
I watched the movies (German dub) only once.
I enjoyed 'Mark reads The Hunger Games', but I never found the time to actually read the books.
I don't know how to use gdocs.
If you are still interested, you can e-mail to h(dot)graubart(at)t(minus)online(dot)de.

I only read your post before replying, and didn't see that the person whose post yours was a response to was Herr Wozzeck. Now I am experiencing the all-too-common-for-me emotion of embarrassment on two separate fronts at once. So, now I have no clue who you might have mistaken me for. (trawls archives) Autumn_68, Myrrdin, and KittyNoodles are all Hunger Games fans, it looks like. Was it one of them?
I was really intrigued by the PPC from the first time I visited the wiki. (Even though I was still in my bad author phase back then, I was still curious.) I'm so happy I can be a part of this whole community. And I'm sure it's going to be very fun.
I'm sorry if that sounded cheesy, by the way.
As for the watch, I love it. My actual watch broke today, so this will really come in handy.
... and thanks for the gift. I'll listen to it as soon as I get to a computer with proper internet.
Ooh, cookies! *grabs*
In other words, though, hello and welcome!
(A newbie who knows their way around, oh my!)
And now, to dispense with the exclamation marks, I give to you a lined Infinite Notebook, complete with urple covers and wilver binding. Avert your eyes!
-Aila
PS: I think the raise is either to prove a point or because back then you needed money to buy food at the Cafeteria (or good food, at least. I'm probably not remembering correctly, though, so don't take this as a certainty.
Thanks so much. I love the notebook already, I might take a hint from the DIO and use for defence.
Even though there is no such thing as the DIO. Of course.
