In addition to the various online writing guides that can be found, there is another source of useful info: online guides for role-players, specifically those aimed at Games Masters.

A GM faces a similar challenge to an author, in that they both have to convey everything they are supposed to be experiencing to their players/readers. Obviously it's not quite the same in each case, but there's a lot of stuff that seems transferable to me.

This article from the Giant in the Playground has useful tips on description, as does this article (relating specifically to descriptive language in fight scenes) from the 'Check for Traps' series on The Escapist.

Other possibly transferable topics for writing in general include world building and coming up with antagonists.
