For the last week, I have been reading (what may be the worst fanfic of all time) My Immortal. For any of you wondering why I wanted to kill a few billion brain cells, I have never read this badfic, and was wondering if it was truly as bad as people said it was. After a bit of research on TVTropes (where the insert of the badfic killed a couple million brain cells) I decided to hear a dramatic reading, because that is my preferred method in reading a badfic. (It makes it more understandable/interesting.) As I was hearing TehPogo's dramatic reading (text included) and listing to the (500th) clothing description, I came across the following sentence:
"Meanwhile, I pot on a blak ledder mini, a blak corset with urple lace stuff all over it, an black gothic compact boots."
Now, I bet this is just a misspelling of "purple." The sues are relentless, I see.
Just food for thought.
There was an Istari, something the Urple...he got left on the boat...someone with lots of Tolkien knowledge, help!
But as I recall (from what, I'm not sure - possibly discussions here on the Board), the first few Sue colours - urple, wilver, and maybe blello - were created by actual typos found in stories, just like mini-Balrogs.
So when was My Immortal written? It is at least conceivable as the origin of the term. Then again, it's hardly a difficult typo to make...
