I'd love to say that I have any interesting updates in regards to what I'm working on, but having come down with a cold on top of a flu bug, I really don't have it in me right now to do much of anything.

(Give me a few days recovery time - I'm an extremely fast healer in real life. I'm fairly certain I get it from my "I Don't Have Time To Be Sick" hardcore powerhouse workhorse mom.)

In the meantime... Uh... and then Strider said, "How's you?"

While I do hope you feel better soon, Specs, I think I should remind you that every new thread on the Board pushes an old one off the edge, and after that off the edge of the Internet, permanently. So although it's cool to let people know how you're doing, a deviantart, tumblr, or dreamwidth would probably be better to do so.

(Have we had an Exchange Social-shaped Websites thread, recently? We probably should...)

Personally, I feel like that would be a great way for me to stay connected to friends, as well as help some of my more large-scale stuff like my ongoing novels to get the publicity, and critical reviews, that I think they deserve.

So, if anybody is up to making that kind of thread, I'd be up for it.

doctorlit received a reply on my DA journal where I said I was recovering grok the flu and was trying to keep food in my stomach enough so that I could take my vitamin C/Robitussin combo without it hitting me in the groin later.

Well, I found out that the, uh, "flu" WAS CAUSED BY THE AELDRA DAMNED ROBITUSSIN.

It expired TWO YEARS AGO. I didn't notice until I discovered a "Use By" tag on the box when I went to take a dose TONIGHT.

Lucky save on my part. But boy, if my danger sense had only activated sooner...

Also, sorry about the food thing in my dA comment. I guess my brain classifies "flu" and "stomach flu" as two different problems.

It was just brought on artificially rather than by natural acquisition.

Natural acquisition being nearabouts impossible for me to do because of a naturally strong immune system and being loaded up with vaccines.

[miscellaneous medical trivia soapbox time!]

"Flu" and "stomach flu" actually are two different things, and in fact, what people call "stomach flu" is not even the flu at all! "Flu" is short for influenza, which is an infection caused by a strain of the influenza virus. It is not generally characterized by vomiting. There are lots of different strains, some more dangerous than others—you've probably heard of some of them. Generally speaking, though, the influenza infection itself is not what kills people, but rather secondary infections like pneumonia that strike while their bodies are weakened. That's why it's usually more dangerous to young people and old people, who are already more susceptible to infections.

So-called stomach flu, on the other hand, is a colloquialism referring to gastroenteritis, which is inflammation of the lining of your stomach and intestines. It can be caused by like a gazillion different things. Food poisoning is indeed one of them. Your body reacts to the inflammation by trying to expel whatever is causing it, and fun times are had by all.

Just when Mass Effect 3 starts to get interesting, I get slammed with three tests almost back-to-back-to-back in one week. I guess the next mission will have to wait until this weekend.

On the up side, I've noticed that some of my favourite SC2 players have moved on to streaming the Heart of the Swarm beta. Now I can start have a peek at all of the nifty new units in action.

Because you get to play Mass Effect 3 and Starcraft 2, and I'm stuck with a barely-past-beta rip-off of a Modern Warfare 3 DS port.

Why does all my good technology die on me when I need it most...

You wouldn't say that after watching me play. I have the most terribad micro on the planet, and I have to bear the shame of losing to a completely BS Probe rush. Seriously, even being 6pooled is somewhat legit, since you might have a chance of holding off the early zerglings provided you wall off your main, park a unit in the gap, scout his early spawning pool, and your opponent flubbing his timings. Being worker rushed is the stupidest all-in you could ever lose to.

Now, if you want to see SC2 done properly, you could go and watch the pros at work. You can watch their streams on Team Liquid's page, or listen to Husky on YouTube cast some of their matches. I suggest watching Dragon and Empire.Kas for Terran, WhiteRa and HuK for Protoss, and Destiny and Idra for Zerg.

Along with over-abuse of the resource dump cheat, un-fogging the map, speedy production (I made a fleet of Protoss carriers in under ten minutes.), and insta-kill against all enemies.

And when I wasn't cheating, I built crap-tons of nuclear outposts so that I could turn the Ghost unit's nuclear strike ability into a nuclear carpet bombing run.

I was such a noob, but it was such fun.

And then came Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars...

I've never been the same since learning just how badly I truly suck when I'm not allowed to cheat.

Well, at sandbox games, in any case.
