Have a duplicate of Jayne's hat from the last episode of Firefly. Mourn.
Hello, everyone!
My name is Silken Dawn, but you can call me Silky. I'm a soon-to-be-grad student in the US, and I enjoy writing, good grammar, naps, and moonlit walks on the beach.
So far, I've only read the original PPC stories (the ones with Jay and Acacia), so if anyone could point me to the most important recent stories, I will devour them forthwith.
Fandoms about which I am just knowledgeable enough to critique the fanfiction:
Lord of the Rings
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Sailor Moon
Firefly
Doctor Who (the new series)
...and I recently found out that people are writing fanfiction about "Once Upon a Time," so I'll be more than happy to dissect those as well.
There are undoubtedly others, including a lot that I don't know quite as well.
Anyway, thank you for reading, and I hope to get to know all of you soon!
Welcome to the Board! A fellow Sailor Moon fan, eh?
Then for your present, here's a Glite-colored replica of Sailor Moon's tiara!
Hi, sonofheaven176! I like your name- it sounds like something my husband would choose.
Anyway, thanks for the tiara! I'll wear it with pride... once I get over the seizure-inducing color problems. :D
Nice to meet you.
I too enjoy My Little Pony, Firefly and Doctor Who (I like Lord of the Rings as well, but I'm not sure I'll ever be knowledgeable enough about it to write missions for it).
Here, take this replica of the Sword of Attila*
*Warning, may be linked to delusions of grandeur and a desire for world domination. Handle with care.
Yay, shared fandoms! And it does seem like there's far too much to LOTR to ever know it all even reasonably well. I haven't even read all of the books, or made it very far into The Silmarillion.
Anyway- ooh, my first sword! Shiny! You know, with this, I almost feel like I could conquer entire civilizations, despite having no martial skills whatsoever! Weird, huh? ...I'll just... keep this carefully sheathed, at least until such time as I decide to realize my goals of world domination.
Granted, I'm rather new to the fandom, but hey! Newness doesn't mean we don't share a fandom. I see you believe Fluttershy is best pony - honestly, I'm torn between her and Twilight.
Anyhow, I just saw the episode "Swarm of the Century", and those little parasprites were cute. Have one as a welcome present - all the locust tendencies have been genetically engineered away.
Thanks, Hermione! You have a lot of great episodes ahead of you.
(I wonder what MLP misspellings become? Oh- according to the Wiki, it's mini-discords!)
Anyway, thanks for the parasprite! I think it'll be friends with my little sock-eater... now where did that thing go?
Have a duplicate of Jayne's hat from the last episode of Firefly. Mourn.
Hello, SingingTheThunder.
I have never stopped mourning.
Hello fellow-newbie,
I've been baking parkin, so have a chunk. Wrap it up well and it'll keep for a couple of weeks.
LOTR and Firefly? Shiny.
I'm working through ppc.wikia.com/wiki/TheCompleteListofPPC_Fiction in order. Just don't overdose.
What's your field, and is it likely to prove helpful in the PPC?
Stripes.
Hi, Stripey, and thanks for the chunk!
I'm still trying to figure out what my field is going to be. I might have to bounce around the different departments for a while before I settle on one. Oh- you meant my grad school field? I'm going for a Master's of Social Work, with an emphasis on Marriage and Family Counseling. From what I've seen so far, counseling is going to be VERY useful for PPC agents. :)
Counselling may prove so useful you never get to leave HQ!
Have some cookies. Like always, never eat those 'cuz they're rock-solid or something like that. Enjoy! =]
Thanks, Rina! I will be sure to not eat them.
Tehee~ just throw them at the people you don't like (or someone you do like). I tried that once... Fun.
Welcome! So good to meet you! I'm DawnFire, but you can probably see that from the signature and suchlike. Welcome to the Board, and have some Swiss Bleepolate--the highest grade of bleepolate, guaranteed to taste good and distract you with sugar while dulling horrific details! Also, a sonic screwdriver replica, confiscated from a Sue. It...shoots lightning, I'm afraid; you may want to be careful with the settings. It does look cool, though (blue and green streaks, with random bits of red in the mix), and it does most of the same things as the Doctor's sonic.
Hm...Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, Once Upon a Time, and Queen...I think we'll get along quite well :)
Standard Question: Are you planning on writing missions, by any chance?
Here's to newbies and good grammar!
~DawnFire
Hi, DawnFire!
I am absolutely planning on writing missions! I just have to read a few dozen... or hundred... or thousand... before I'm confident that I know what I'm doing. But having this handy Sonic Suedriver should be helpful! It must have come from a truly bad fic.
We should team up sometime, once I've lurked a bit more and gotten the all-important Permission. We two Dawns will be unstoppable! Here's to Dawns (not Breaking)!
I know the feeling! I must have read at least 200 PPC fics in the past month, as well as spending hours getting lost in the many wiki articles. It really does help; I think I'm nearing a sense of how to competently write missions.
Sonic Suedriver :D Nice one. I'm sure the fic was horrible. (It's also non-existent, as far as I know, but it can be one of those legendary missions in one of my agents' backstory. I am QUITE pleased to have never encountered a sonic screwdriver that shot lightning; let's hope that doesn't mean that I will sometime in the future...It did nearly become purple in reference to a purple sonic...pen, I think it was, that a character of mine used, but I refrained, since I don't think the character is *too* Sue-ish. Maybe a few Sue traits, but reasonably flawed and not interfering too much with established canon. Anyway.)
...Ok, now I'm picturing Agent Dawn ranting about the terrible DW fic where she was nearly fried by lightning from a Sonic Suedriver. I guess that'll happen at some point. Maybe it can be used in an introduction, or something?
...I am so out of it. I didn't actually notice originally that we were both Dawns--I think because you said 'Hi, I'm Silky'?--but now that I have, yes! We should definitely team up! *clinks glass* And we are *definitely* and *defiantly* not Breaking. Although I am vaguely thinking of taking on a Twilight badfic, just to see how it turns out (and to watch the agents rant, of course). Sounds like fun. BUT--we should definitely team up at some point post-Permission.
~DawnFire
It's a deal! We'll be partners in my first mission. I hope you don't mind if I bring along a cyborg. (I have a bit of backstory fleshed out. His name is Asus, and he's partially made out of Gary Stu parts.)
Hmm, Twilight badfics... I've never read or watched it (nor do I plan to), but I think I've heard enough about the series that I could reasonably take it on. The only problem for me is going to be complaining about problems with the fiction, not the canon, but as long as it massacres the English language enough, I should be able to handle it.
Anyway, alons-y!
Yay! It'll be fun :) And cyborgs are definitely welcome. The more the merrier!
I don't read much (or any, really) Twilight fic at all (except for parodies, which I love), but I had a phase where I liked it (lasted less than a year, thankfully. I think it even lasted less than half a year). I was never obsessed, and came to my senses fairly quickly, but I still read all of the books (except for the last bit of Breaking Dawn, I couldn't make myself--I was only reading it to know how the story ended, because my friends had requested a fanfic and I needed more information than I had...), and saw maybe half of the first movie. I do hear there's a wiki to help with details, though, so we should be alright if we decide to take one on.
And complaining about problems with the fiction and the canon is the fun part! And then--well, I seem to have this thing about embarrassing Agent Dawn--I keep coming up with ideas that bring out these little secrets from her past. It's...interesting. Especially as these are only ideas so far, since I don't have permission yet. Anyway, we'll find a terrible one, and then it's full speed ahead!
Geronimo! (since you've already used allons-y)
~DawnFire
Sweet! I promise my cyborg will behave himself.
It really shouldn't be hard to find a truly awful Twilight fic. >:) We'll destroy it!
And hopefully not the last!
That's nice :) I'm not sure I should make any promises about Agent Dawn, though; she's generally pretty polite, but...you never know.
You'd be surprised. I took a quick look on FFN, and while I found some very strange ones*, including a retelling of the first book (I hope it's just the first book!) with an OC replacing Bella**, they're not really amazingly bad and perfect sporking material (I think). That is, I think worse ones exist, and would make for a better mission.
But yes, once we find the badfic, its days are numbered! Up the PPC!
~DawnFire
--
*Such as magical babies that look like the Cullens appearing on their doorstep, amidst a torrent of bad grammar and limited capitalization, bearing with them a letter from an anonymous person stating that they will automatically become vampires when they turn 18, and other such nonsense. The Cullens, of course, take them in, and proceed to be pretty OOC. Which is annoying, because they're some--well, most--of the only characters that I actually *like* in Twilight.
**Almost definitely a Sue. She's just...sort of mild, at least in the first few chapters. Besides replacing Bella--well, honestly, she pretty much just changes some of her personality, if I remember correctly we get a *lot* of insight into Edward's favorite fruits (which the replacement tastes and smells like...)...Hm, I think I read rather further into this than I thought. She's also hunting down someone, and her, ahem, relationship (such as it is) with Edward progresses faster than the E/B one. Also comes complete with horribly long and frequent run-on sentences.
Glad to meet you! Good choice of fandoms, there - don't know very much about Sailor Moon, or My Little Pony, or Nu-Who for that matter (who's your favourite Doctor, out of curiosity?) but I just finished watching Firefly for the first time ever last night, so I can bounce up and down excitedly and squee about that. :P And LOTR has been my major fandom of choice for years.
Have a bag of pebbles and a Random Shiny Object, and welcome to the Board!
Hi there! My favorite Doctor is #10, which is probably a popular choice, but it's more because he seemed nicer than the others than anything else. Of course, all of the Doctors have a very special place in my heart.
Isn't Firefly amazing? I'm still struggling to get over the fact that they canceled it.
Thanks for the objects! See you around the board!
Welcome a-Board! You have very shiny fandoms. *floods you with glomphugs*
As a welcome gift, have one of my sock-eaters. Specially for you, a pony about the size of your palm that has firefly wings. Name is Dr Little and she eats your socks if you don't watch out. Most things of mine eat socks, so... hehe. ^^
Ooh, glomphugs AND a mini-sockeater! It's so cute, I couldn't be mad even if it ate ALL the socks.
Welcome to the PPC! We love newbies here, so please leave your sanity at the door and have a good time!
As a welcome gift, I give you "Variations: Aldous Huxley in Memoriam" by one Igor Stravinsky: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oeoV5X1Ha0
Hello, Herr Wozzeck!
Ooh, music! I haven't listened to enough Stravinsky. Thank you!
To find missions to your taste, may I recommend browsing our PPC Wiki? The front page provides links to all kinds of resources, including how to find stories to read; and if you check out the "Other Prominent Agents" menu under the "Agents" tab in the nav bar at the top, you'll find some names associated with highly recommended spin-offs in a variety of flavors departments. (Disclaimer: I can't speak for Agent Supernumerary, because he's mine.) The front page also contains a list of new releases.
Would you like anything to drink while you consider your order? We have a wonderful selection of Bleepka cocktails. *g*
~Neshomeh
Hello, Neshomeh! You sound like the dapperest of all butlers. I will be sure to check out the Other Prominent Agents menu the next time I'm at work... I mean... when I find some free time.
In the meantime, I believe I'll have a Bleep in the Afternoon. The selection here is quite impressive.
It was mostly accidental. I realized it sounded that way after I finished the main paragraph, then went back and added the crossed-out bit about flavor and tacked on the line at the end. ^_^;
But hey, enjoy your drink anyway! It's on the house, courtesy of the PPC Bleepka Bar.
~Neshomeh, who doesn't think she's ever been called dapper before. First time for everything!
Have a welcome gift from Teh Specs:
A page torn from the Necronomicron!
(Warning: hideously evil. Handle with caution.)
I will choose... Madam!
And thank you for the lovely page from the Necronomicon- I've never had one of these before! I'll be sure to use it well (unless its use necessitates a change of alignment or sacrifice of a living thing. Then I'll just guard it carefully).
Just, if you see a line that says "Ia! Ia! C'thulu ftaghn!", dont... don't read it out loud.
Welcome to the board! Have a 'Backdrop of Convenient Explosions' +1
*Puts on sunglasses and takes a jumping picture in front of the Backdrop of Convenient Explosions*
Thanks, Ivan! It's just the kind of entrance I wanted!
♪Hey! I'm gonna gift you, too! Another one joins the Board!♪
Greetings, new friend! Have a miniature TARDIS! It's great for sending action figures back in time and confusing historians!
Well, now. I wouldn't presume to rank our members' stories by importance, but I can point you to some of the ones that are updated regularly and/or pertain to your fandoms!
Let's see. Pretzel just recently started adding to her spinoff again. One of her missions is in the MLP:FiMverse: http://rc-6237.livejournal.com/
Lily Winterwood has been busy with her spinoff, focused on the BBC television version of Sherlock Holmes: http://lilywinterwood.tumblr.com/tagged/ppc%3A-mission
Eileen Alphabet has an ongoing spinoff with a lot of fantasy-universe missions, handled by a pair of former diabolic creatures: http://rc170.wordpress.com/
Tomato has written missions for Firefly, Lord of the Rings and Doctor Who, so that spinoff may be just up your alley, although I don't think she's writing anymore: http://www.freewebs.com/agenttomato/index.htm
And if my eyes watering up didn't throw off my counting, we are currently up to ninety-two Lord of the Rings missions, not including the twenty-six from the original series and the fifteen missions that cover part-LotR crossovers: http://ppc.wikia.com/wiki/LordoftheRings#MissionsinthisContinuum
You can always check for the green "NEW!" tags on this wiki page to see what has updated recently. http://ppc.wikia.com/wiki/TheCompleteListofPPC_Fiction Or read some older stuff! We have plenty of free-time reading available for your enjoyment!
(Obviously, no one is expecting you to read all of these in any sort of time frame, if at all. I just wanted to provide you with some options to get started.)
Hi, Doctorlit!
Wow, this will keep me busy for a while!
And thanks for the mini-TARDIS. It's great to know that I can now disrupt the space-time continuum (in small ways) while protecting the much more important plot continuum.
Welcome to the Board! Have some of my world-famous hydrophobic water to commemorate the event. Cleans Mass Effect drives without any fuss!
Welcome to our insane fine Board! I be KittyNoodles, and as a welcome gift I have placed bleepnerds and an Odd Container* in your inventory!
All missions are important (read: fun), you silly goose! Although, as you are an MLP fan, might I suggest reading Secret of the Rainbow Wands, The Longing, Playing Pointless Games, The Edge of Insanity, Snapback, Thunder Run, and Lightning Strikes?
Also, do you like World of Warcraft? Or perhaps the Warriors meta-series? What about anything by Tamora Pierce?
*[This container is perfectly spherical and seems to be made of glite-painted wood; its weight seems to shift at random. You have the odd feeling that opening this container might be slightly detrimental to your health.]
Chance on Opening: Receive one huggle or spray of confetti - your choice.
Ooh, kitty!!! Erm... ahem. I mean, hello, KittyNoodles!
Thank you for the suggestions- I will enjoy reading them!
Unfortunately, I haven't paid much attention to Wow or the Warriors, nor have I read anything by Tamora Pierce, but I'm not opposed to learning about any of these if an opportunity presents itself. :)
Oh, I know- let me try this again:
*Puts on sunglasses and releases confetti from the Odd Container while jumping in front of the Backdrop of Convenient Explosions, and then runs from the now flaming confetti*
They are very much fun. Except for mine, which are less fun and more Wham. But still fun. :D
Darn. BUT! I know lots about Warriors and World of Warcraft, and have read a measly third or so of stuff by Tamora Pierce, so if you have any questions, I will happily cram information down your throat answer them to the best of my ability! :D
ACCEPTABLE!
Ooh! It would be fun to do a mission where you were doing one of these things, and I got excited and wanted to tag along, and you asked if I was familiar with them, and I said yes, but I was lying, so I ended up being completely in over my head and you had to rescue me along with the fic.
I have a oneshot Warriors fic I'm getting ready to sick a new DTE agent on. It's a pretty easy test-run sort of fic for someone who doesn't have Perimission yet. Wanna give it a spin?
Hmm, let me think about that for a seYES!! So if I don't have Permission yet, I can still have an agent appear in someone else's mission? Sounds good to me!
Why don't you email me at NessLR@yahoo.com with details? Thanks! (Hehee, this is so exciting!)
Actually, something similar turned out to be my first mission. It was before I got Permission - I sent Gilbert and Fiona along on a BIONICLE mission, despite knowing as much about BIONICLE as I know about astrophysics (so, basically, the name of the fandom). It was fun and educational, and was also great agent- and mission-writing practice! If'n you'd like to do the same sometime, I have Permission now, and I'd be happy to have you tag along! :D
I have de lurked for a minute to say hi. Here is an industrial size bottle of Bleeprin: trust me, you'll need it :)
In the time-honored PPC tradition of giving newbies gifts of whatever odds and ends we have on hand, allow me to present you with a diving knife, an Me-262-model Striker Unit, an Indian flute made of PVC, a bullwhip, and a bag of peppermints.
Welcome to the Protectors of the Plot Continuum! May you serve honorably and well.
Hi, Riese
Thank you for all the stuff! I promise to try to find a use for all of it. See you around the board!
Time to roll out the- HOLD ON! Another brony, New Who, and Once Upon a Time fan! YES! Alright, this is going to be extra special, I'll roll out the SUPER welcome wagon.
(The... Super Welcome Wagon? But, Worldie, it's not ready yet!)
Don't worry you'r pretty little unfinished head Jumper, you'r ol' creator World-Jumper has it all under control!
Welcome Welcome Welcome,
A grand welcome to you!
Welcome Welcome Welcome,
I say, how do you do?
Welcome Welcome Welcome,
I say, hip hip, hooray!
Welcome Welcome Welcome,
To our dear Board,
TODAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!
Let's hope this works...
[The wagon explodes in very impressive fireworks, as well as giving you a stature of your favorite pony, with special enchantment based off their personality]
(...I don't believe it... It worked. It actually worked you crazy bastard.)
See, I knew what I was-
*BOOM!*
...I'll pay for the damages.
(Eeyup.)
Anyway, welcome to our board. I see we share some fandoms, so this is extra exiting. I'm actually trying to write a Friendship is Magic X Once Upon a Time crossover, though more appropriately it would be called a "Once Upon a Time with ponies" fic. So that's fun. Anyway, I hope to see more from you soon, I'll be back later to tell you what the little statue's enchantment is.
Wow! That was definitely at least the third or fourth coolest thing I've ever seen! Brohoof! /)(<br>[Takes Fluttershy statue]
I'm looking forward to seeing this Once x Ponies fanfic of yours. Actually, I have a fic or two on fimfiction.net, but it's been a while, so they're pretty buried by now.
I hope we can work together on a PPC story sometime. I have a great character mostly put together already, and I think we would work very well together!
We might well have to get married now. Or at least work on something together. Something awesome. As for your statue's enchantment, when you carry it, you feel calm, kind, and can sooth others with some soft words. It will take a strong badfic to bring you down when you hold her. Basically, it's an aura of kindness.
My idea for the Once X Ponies is that Trixie or Chrysalis plays the role of Regina, Discord plays Rumpelstiltskin, and either Cadence and Shining Armor as Snow and Charming, or the mane six are trapped in I think high school. The Doctor would have a part in it, and they have to find their way back to Equestria. The town they are stuck in is called Humansville and they have to piece together who they are, where they are from, and how to get back. I thought out the broad idea, but I am just not sure if I'm good enough to do it right. Ah well, now that I have a system of betas, I may well get her written. We'll see.
Sounds good! I'd have to bump out my current husband if we were to get married, but we could just make friendship bracelets or something. Or work on something together. That would be great!
I like both of these ideas. Cadence and Shining Armor would make a perfect Snow and Charming. Chrysalis almost sounds more like Cora, what with her frequent shapeshifting. And, of course, no one else could be Discord!
Let me know if you want to work together on anything, I'm definitely down for it (once I get a few dozen more missions read and acquire the elusive Permission). ^.^
Pleased to meet you! I think we'll get along just fine! Nice fandoms as well. Enjoy these fruit snacks in outlandish nonexsistent flavors, and in a whole rainbow of Sue-colors! (May or may not be dangerous to your health. If you do eat them, a very large dose of Bleeprin may be needed.)
Hi, Lynne! Nice to meet you! And thanks for the awesome fruit snacks- do the snozzberries taste like snozzberries?
