AKA the original thread for the PPC Pokemon Tournament has been bunted off the first page and I figured a new thread might be useful for the continuation of the organization of matches and what not.
No matter what, someone in this has a shot at a trophy. So come on, Fasoula! Show me whatcha got!
I mean, I already know, the team sheets are readily available, but y'know. =]
For those of you who want to watch it, here is foofooman3 vs Voyd.
We now move on to the semifinals! Our final four: foofooman3, Voyd, Scapegrace, and Fasoula! Congratulations to all, and may the best trainers take home the trophies!
I'm in the Writing room. Come and get me!
Darkotas decided to try to try trolling me with an all-Ditto team. This is what happened.
And this is why Gabrielle is Best Flareon.
Is probably the most hilarious end to a Pokemon battle I have ever seen. Gabrielle vs the Flareon factory!
Good job, Ix. XD
If Scapegrace and Fasoula want to duke it out to see who goes to the finals, they can go right ahead.

Good game, y'all. I learned a lot!
...At 3:30 pm EST tomorrow, if that's convenient for you. I have some homework to worry about, plus I need to set up my team on/familiarize myself with the website. (Username's the same.)
Is your username the same?
Check it out here!
Somehow having a page makes the tournament feel suddenly super official and important. So, are we going to post all the replays there, or will those just be on each year's document?
Also, my name is mentioned on a wiki page now and it's kinda weird!
And heh, I know the feeling. What's your Wiki username so I can properly link it?
I can make one a bit later on though.
Episode Seven: Keep An Ion The 'Scapee!
((they don't get any better, believe me))
Watch it here!
Fantastic match, in which the final scoreline rather flatters to deceive. Congratulations to Shy, you're a worthy opponent. =]
That was a lot of switching! Well played on both sides. (Though switching into and immediately dying on the Spikes... yeah. ^_^)

Head over to Writing if you want to watch me lose :)
The battle for the silver cup has its victor.
A battle worthy of the Silver C-
Waaaaaait, you still have to beat Spacegrape to get that. Cheeky beggar.
hS
But that's what I've been calling Ix and my... Ix's and my... Ix and mine... our battle since the start. Just wouldn't be the same calling it anything else (even though there is a very good chance Scape'll wreck me next round).
Besides, Battle for the Battle for the Silver Cup doesn't quite have the same ring.
Voyd vs Darkotas! Let's RUMBLE!
... more than one Pokemon this time!
Seriously, that first match was terrifying. This one was... almost as scary.
(Also, haha, Glaurung. And Steve... looks like a Steve.)
hS
And update the bracket, to boot...
Anyway, congratulations, Voyd, looks like you're off to the semifinals!
Seriously, that's two battles in a row where your team was hardly even scratched. That's pretty impressive.
I'm learning rather quickly that being on the business end of a Contrary Malamar is quite frightening.
He just steamrolls over almost everything. Anything that's not particularly bothered by his moveset, the rest of my tem can mop up.
Malamar suffers from a 4x weakness to bug types and 2x to Fairy. In fact, Mega Gardevoir can guarantee a OHKO with Hyper Voice in all circumstances!
I specifically gave Kthanid a Tanga Berry so that he'd be less impressed with it.
And in any case, bugs don't worry Kthanid too terrible much anyway. One of his moves happens to be Aerial Ace.
I'm assuming you're using Smogon's Cleric build: Wish/Protect/Toxic/Hyper Voice with a defence-boosting nature.
With Pixilate, Hyper Voice is a guaranteed 2HKO against Malamar but Annelise will be out-sped by Kthanid.
Try playing around with Smogon's damage calculator and see what works. I'm more worried about that Diggersby, though. Huge Power makes that thing a formidable physical threat.
Even Solga the Volcarona, who has yet to grace us with her presence.
Do not underestimate a single member of my team. They hit harder and faster than you'd think, and aren't particularly impressed by attempts to one-shot them.
Even with my crappy team:
Henry (Jolteon) (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Rash Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Signal Beam
- Hidden Power [Water]
Cordelia (Milotic) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Competitive
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Bold Nature
- Toxic
- Recover
- Protect
- Scald
Juliane (Glaceon) (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Ice Body
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
- Ice Beam
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Frost Breath
Tacitus (Zoroark) (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Illusion
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Focus Blast
- Flamethrower
- Knock Off
- Night Daze
Fowler (Unfezant) (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Super Luck
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Aerial Ace
- Return
- Roost
Victoria (Gardevoir) (F) @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Psyshock
- Thunderbolt
- Protect
The way I see it:
Diggersby: Send in Tacitus: Focus Blast will OHKO. Failing that, Cordelia will finish the job.
Feraligatr: Easy prey for Henry. If he can't finish the job then Fowler or Victoria can.
Clefable: Juliane or Cordelia. We're gonna have to poison it because this is going to be a stallfest.
Malamar: Victoria will OHKO it no sweat. Fowler is on standby if she's taking too much heat.
Charizard (Mega) : Scald it into oblivion or switch in Victoria if you're going the Charizard-X route.
Staraptor: Henry or Juliane's target. Fowler or Tacitus can serve as backup.
Volcarnoa: Fowler or Cordelia can deal with it.
Thoughts?
Nanoha (Clefable) has Magic Coat, so she's kinda nasty for anything that relies on indirect damage. And because she has Calm Mind, and I only see two physical moves that she doesn't resist, you're gonna have a tough time taking her down while she blasts you into oblivion.
Woundwort (Diggersby), that all depends on who goes first. Since the big bunny has a Choice Scarf, it's very difficult to outrun him.
King Bull (Staraptor) is also bloody fast and hits like a truck. You're probably going to get a face full of kamikaze starling-kestrel no matter who you pick.
Kthanid (Malamar) has high special defense. He'd probably survive the fairy zap, and come back swinging.
Glaurung (Charizard) happens to have Dragon Dance and Roost. He's also surprisingly tough.
Steve (Feraligatr)... sadly, you're probably correct on that front. Even with Sheer Force and Dragon Dance, Jolteon is probably faster than him. I remember reading somewhere that Jolteon is the fastest Kanto breed.
Solga (Volcarona), besides giving me a new mini-Missingno (thanks for Volcarnoa, by the way), is very fast and surprisingly durable.
You can play around that a bit with burns and the like. The problem is that he runs a Choice Scarf. I can deal with it... sort of, but it does involve a little luck.
I probably would have put up much more of a fight had I been able to view the replay of Voyd's last battle. My strategy has a high dependence on Turn 1, and I guessed incorrectly as to his start for this battle. It was a good fight either way, and I wish Voyd the best of luck in the next bracket!
And hey, at least you can see someone kill off Cryo.
...we *are* doing anything goes, right? Since most of our rules aren't built in?
It just has some unfortunate weaknesses, because Ice is a horrible defensive typing. On the plus side, I know how to beat it. Actually, I have answers to a lot of your team. =]
By the way, shall we proceed to our match?
In the document, it's Cinccino, not Cincinno. *tidies up the mini-Missingno*
I'll clean it up when I fix the bracket.
So many unexpected outcomes. I'm pretty pumped for the next round.
How does everyone feel about the first round performances? How about round two's match-ups?
But that's okay. I wish you the best of luck in obtaining the shiny silver cup. Besides, I'll certainly give you a decent beating!
*hopes she's not making promises she can't keep*
I'm interested to see how Darkotas and Voyd's fight will go.
Underdogs unexpectedly winning their matches seems to be a theme in this tournament, Scapegrace and me being prime examples. Besides, I still have plenty to fear from your team, Jolteon and its crazy speed, and your Wish-Protectors. Either way, I'm looking forward to a good battle!
I'll be keeping an eye on Scape and Shy's battle. I really want to see how that will go, and not just because I have to face whoever wins in the next round.
Also, if I may make a small prediction based on previous round, I have a sneaking suspicion that if I do somehow make it to the finals, I'll be facing off against foofooman.
Assuming Darkotas beats Voyd (which, considering the full sweep, might not happen), he tailored his team to specifically beat foo.
And yeah, I do like my Wishtectors. :3
I actually beat him in an extracurricular battle, though he admits that my win was because he underestimated me. Not that I can blame him, I'd underestimate me too.
Make sure to use that to your advantage, Fasoula.
And by the way, I think I've found a way to give myself a fighting chance. FEAR MY EEVEES OF DOOM! :D
I'm ready for whatever you've got! >:D
I'll defeat you and foofoo, then my I shall reign as the supreme champion over all! *Throws back his cape and cackles madly.*
Would you be willing to fight tomorrow, 3:30 EST?
Any time after 4:00 should be good, though, barring family getting in the way!
Voyd is getting pumped!
That tells you about all you need to know.
Seriously, I thought I'd lose the first round. I didn't expect to sweep.
Nothing happens.
Voyd Vs Tira I'm ready for our round whenever you are, although tomorrow would probably be better - I have to leave for work in about 15 minutes, and I'll be back home around 9:30 EST. If you're still up for it then, I'll be available - but Friday would probably allow for more spectators. Is it before 6 PM EST? Because I play Pathfinder then. Well, I know what to look out for. Seriously, Contrary is pretty scary. Episode Four: A Graceful Computer Showdown! Nngh. Well, I'll just have to watch the battle later. :( Good luck, guys! Watch it here! ((Occasional language, references to Lucario being a dirty, dirty harlot in the fandom.)) Though it was less luck and more bad choices all around. Next time though. [EvilAI]UBEROverlord and Scapegrace Srsly. Actually the whole tactic of 'Toxic + just wait' was a bit of a Good Grief moment. Mason started it off, but Annelise just made it her own. I never really thought much of Sylveon until I decided to use one (only due to the sheer number of Dragons running around). I didn't really expect much from her until I started actually playing. After she oneshot a couple of 'mons with Hyper Voice, though, I decided to keep her around. :3 Abilities like Refrigerate, Aerilate, and (most relevantly) Pixilate don't just convert Normal-type moves to a different type. They ALSO grant a 30% damage boost to moves of that type. Hence why Annelise can hit like a speeding bus, and why Mega Salamence is broken af. If ever you run into a Wish-Protect stall, Taunt them and switch to your best attacking 'mon. That'll break the chain. Use your STABmons or your pet trollfish to make a considerable dent in it. Vaporeon's the tough nut; Sylveon... not so much, especially against physical attackers. My primary source of physical damage 2HKOs both unboosted, though the problem (as ever) lies with the Protect spam. They have to break the chain to put on a status effect, so bait it the Toxic (Ix loves Toxic), switch to your Poison type to soak it up, switch back to your previous mon when it Protects to avoid the predicted reciprocal, and enjoy beating on it some more with Fake Out. Ooh, good idea. Skarmory's an excellent physical wall, and if Ix wasn't using her gimmick, I'd recommend her put it in. Now, I don't tend to use it much, since I don't like playing in the higher tiers, but the following set is pretty much de rigeur. Or at least, so I am told. Lovely. Thanks for the info. Fairy, Poison, and Steel types all give me problems. I do have some ways to deal with them, though. *wink* I want everyone to have a fighting chance in this competition. Since I'm basically crashing out in the first round because of Poor Life Decisions, I think it's important that everyone benefits from what knowledge I can impart from my travels in Showdown. They get a post. You, on the other hand, got one-to-one tuition. And since you're a hell of a lot better in a much shorter space of time than you were when you started, I think it's only fair that people get a little insight into your team, since yours is a gimmick that actually works. I have come to the conclusion that all the going out in the first round talk was just mess with my mind... Sorry if it came off as upset. I shall soundly defeat you on the battlefield! THEN THE SILVER CUP WILL BE MINE! But I won't go down easy, I promise you that! But, I dunno. You've seen my tricks now, I dunno if I'll be able to hold up against you quite like the first time, especially that Sylveon. I suppose we'll have to see! Storme Hawk VS Fasoula You can watch the battle here. I'm scared of Vilillon now. Sleep powder is such nonsense and Hurricane boosted by Compound Eyes is incredibly deadly. *Nabs the mini-Missingo.* My Vilillon. Mwahaha. Fear the butterfly! >:D I recently acquired an Absol in Alpha Sapphire. Adamant nature, Pressure (Super Luck would've been nice but whatevs). Her defences are really, really poor but I said "eh, she'll be the squad's physical glass cannon". She proved herself to be more than that. Even without Super Luck she's absurdly lucky in the crits department, hits like Thor's mighty hammer if it was wielded by the Hulk (hypothetically speaking; only Thor can pick up Mjölnir, blah blah blah), and always finds a way to escape from certain-KO situations thanks to a Pokémon Amie-boosted dodge. Permanent squad material right there. That genuinely tugged at my heart a bit. Pokemon can be really serious stuff. Und Herr Doktor Condom sagt "Guten Tag, meine unspikische Liebling..." Here is the link. Come watch if you like. Desdendelle VS foofooman3 Can I call this a tense loss? Also, I find your avatars very definitely match up with your personalities. ;) Having a Pokémon that knows a multi-hit attack to punch past the substitute or who can cast Trick Room can help. If you want to. Chose that avatar on purpose, of course. I can't remember and can't check for another nine hours (ugh), but that might be why. Des's Venusaur icon in Showdown seems to be light green with a red flower. The normal Venusaur icon is dark green with a red flower; the shiny icon is light green with a gold flower. Only it's worse than that, because the Showdown icon has off-colour highlights on the flower... and even worser, because the in-game Venusaur seems to be dark green. ... you can link to the matches on the bracket-tree somehow? Also, does anyone know how long the recordings stay up? I'm still a bit new to Google Docs though; how does one do linked text? Highlight and right-click the text, choose the Link option then paste the address you want linked to. Especially if this is going to be an annual thing. I'm fairly sure this'll become an annual thing, with sign-ups starting the first Friday in April. I've watched recordings from way back in 2013, so they should last us a good long while. Alright, Tira, I'm ready for ya. Come get me! I assume you're in some sort of American time zone, right? I'm in GMT+2, so we're probably going to end up doing our match sometime in your afternoon (my evening/night). I'll pass the message along in case he doesn't check the Board today. Just name the date and time. >:D I'll just hang out in RU until you show up? What I meant, is that I will disconnect at 8:00 PM PST. I'm stuck in school for another four hours and won't be getting home until an hour after that. I should be ready after 4:00 PM EDT, unless life has other plans. You can find me in the Writing Room or the Lobby. I'll probably be on from around 10:00 PM GMT. Waiting in RU. And whether they have or not: I assume matches can be watched both live and recorded? If so, please make a nice clear post announcing the time, and a second (reply?) linking to the recording. (I see no particular reason those couldn't be in this thread, until it drops off and goes the way of all data.) After all, those of us who aren't playing still want to watch you beating each other up! How do you record the matches? I've never had to do it on Showdown before and the website I used when I was on PO has since been shut down. After a battle Showdown stores and provides links straight to them. At the end of a battle there's a friendly little button that gives you the link which you can then copy and share. Though matches don't have to go in order if people don't want them to. But it seems that Scapegrace and I have very different time availability. I also only have limited free time. I am hopping to get it done sometime on 4/16. That is when I have the most free time. I don't know what yours is, but (being Britscum) I'm on GMT. This means that by the time you're about I'm either asleep or drunk enough for the difference to be semantic at best. Soz. So I think that is currently a five hour difference. So would some time between 18:00 and 19:00 GMT on 4/16 be a viable time? I mean, I'm almost certainly going to lose, but wevs. I can deal. =] Also, a pretty darn decent team of Pokemon. I believe in the power of the Ambipom! I play RU. A lot. And the team I submitted, minus the substitute who I only put in because Garbodor's adorable and you will never convince me otherwise, is the one I generally play with unless I'm trying out something weird like a bulky Cryogonal/Gurdurr/Steelix-M core (spoilers: the above example did not go well). I know how it works, I know what it's supposed to do, and I know how to win with it. I also know its limitations, and going up against a team of much stronger 'mons is pretty much all of them. Doktor Grabbyhands can give people a good slap, and Doktor Fabulous is exceptionally hard to kill with a few boosts, but the rest of my team has a distinct disadvantage. It tends to move second. The average statlines aren't brilliant. The fast mons are fragile and the slow ones still aren't bulky enough to take that many hits. Focus Miss. Doktor Condom needs time to set up if he wants to properly cause havoc. Doktor Huggleston has problems tanking physical hits. There are weaknesses in the team that are largely self-inflicted, but I at least know how to use the team I've got to maximum effect. Any time you wanna use a Pichu to fight a Primal Groudon, be my guest. See how well your lack of "selfish perception" goes when P-G over there's picking bits of zap rat out from between his toes. It's also worth noting that this was a Doubles battle so the context is different. The tournament would drag on a quite bit longer if we all have to go in order.
Since some people seem to have had problems opening it.
Malamar OP, plz nerf
I'll still be hanging around at 9:30 tonight, though!
Room is here. Come watch me lose! =]
A fantastic match, Many Vowels Person. You had a good team, you just got unlucky in a few places. =]
As I said, my winless record still continues. I went too much into meta gaming. I should have just gone with what I wanted.
hS
Fun fact: All the 'mons on my team were named after fallen Nuzlocke warriors except for Perseus and Eileen, who were named after a Vaporeon and Jolteon who both made it to the top and lived. The others were... not so lucky.
If your party has a "Cleric" 'mon, consider running Heal Bell on them to cure status conditions.
Also, Ix's Sylveon runs Pixilate-boosted Hyper Voice and her Vaporeon runs Scald, so you do run the risk of being hit quite hard or burned - always a problem on anything that's not a Guts abuser. Taunt works in that sense, but also means you have to deal with 30% burn chance spam, and nobody likes that. Also also, don't try and use status on her Umbreon or Espeon; they run Synchronize and Magic Bounce respectively, so it only works on the Umbreon, and even then only if you're trying to Toxic with a Poison-type, paralyse with an Electric-type, burn with a Fire-type, or use a Powder move with a Grass-type.
Ix, I've been tutoring you a li'l bit, it's only fair that the others know your classified information. =]
Question: what's your opinion on Skarmory? Its Steel typing would suggest that it's good against Fairy types and also makes it immune to Toxic. It's OK in terms of Attack (fantastic in terms of Defence) and it's got access to entry hazard moves and Defog so is it a viable counter to this type of strategy?
I've been derping around on Showdown and getting my butt handed to me on a regular basis. Welp, everyone has to start somewhere...
---
Skarmory@Leftovers
Nature: Impish (+ Defence, - Special Attack)
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Defence / 252 Special Defence
Moveset:-
Roost
Roost is Skarmory's biggest niche - reliable recovery that slightly improves its defences in some ways by removing its Flying typing, which is kind of bad defensively. Steel does synergise well with it, though, which is nice for when it comes back just as your newly-switched-in opponent tries to unleash an Earth Power or something.
Taunt
People hate Taunt. People. HATE. Taunt. And it's brilliant on Skarmory. Skarm's role is hazard removal and kicking stuff in, whereas your lead is generally the one setting up traps for your opponent's Crippling Stealth Rock Weakness (take a drink!), so Taunt prevents people from setting it back up - and it also prevents the ubiquitous Defog from making an appearance, since nobody runs Rapid Spin any more.
Defog
Defog ties into the role as hazard removal, because it's your hazard removal. Duh. It allows you to get rid of entry hazards on your side of the field, which Skarmory's brilliant at since it's immune to almost all of them and only takes neutral damage from Stealth Rock. Which means your opponent has to stick all their hazards back up again, and leads tend to be a little bit on the fragile side.
Brave Bird
As you pointed out, Skarmory does have an okay Attack stat (though without EV investment it's not super great), so Brave Bird is there to aid your strengths. Skarmory tends to be on the receiving end of Taunt a lot, so I'm reliably informed, so it seems obvious to run it so that you don't just sit there like a lemon if you get stuck with it. Brave Bird's a recoil move, which means you'll lose health if you use it. If only you had an extremely useful guaranteed recovery move...
---
Hopefully that's informative. =]
Unlike mine, which is just "hey, look at all these rubbish Pokemon, let's see what happens when I throw them at other teams!" =]
Good luck
As before, recording will be posted below.
I've gotta say, the RNG really seems to have won this one.
I need one now.
She can be such a beast if she's given the chance. She's saved me many a loss.
Then I found this old exchange on 4chan. She's now the Mega squaddie.
On a less serious note, Mega Absol is such a great mega. Magic Bounce is so great for checking certain annoying Pokemon.
It's a bit late, but you can still catch it if you hurry! Recording will be posted in reply to this.
Was fun, anyway.
Fun. Thanks for posting! Should I make a trophy for the First Loser?
hS
Personally, I'd counter it with a Talonflame with Flame Charge to match the speed boost that the Ninjask gains every turn.
Sorry it's a bit on the battered side, I'm afraid we had to pull it out of the bin...
Yes, I'll be making certificates for the actual winners, too; now that I've got the style sorted, it should be easy. There's room for seven Pokemon on the list, if the substitutes get used at any point.
Two notes about the sprites: I've used Derpy's Mega sprite, because non-Mega version only existed for one turn; that'll probably be a theme. And... is there a reason Venusaur is such a different colour in this sprite than the Showdown one?
Anyway: well done! You lost before Storme Hawk or Edhelistar got a chance to!
hS
Uhm. I think the Showdown icon might be using an older colour scheme: RSE Venusaur was lighter in colour, and had the gold flashes on its petals. DPPt kept the petals but darkened the skin, and by BW, the petals had changed too.
So I think I've used the 'right' icon. Maybe. Fingers crossed.
hS
hS
Also, should we make a Wiki page for this tournament? You know, for posterity's sake. ;)
(I'll be in writing)
That's assuming it won't take four people over an hour to kill the ender dragon, collect the egg, go home and then argue over who gets to keep the thing. On Tekkit, with nukes and other incredibly destructive pieces of weaponry...
hS
No I'm not looking forward to beating the crap out of Edhelistar, nope
If people don't mind going out of order, just go ahead and start setting up match times. Unfortunately, we're going to have to depend on the opponents to set their match times since I don't know everyone's time zones and personal schedules.
I'm still going to lose to EAUO, but it'll be closer than it has any right to be. =]
Which led to this:
Source.
Why so serious? Just play to have fun.
I, for one, am ready to get this first round over with. The suspense has been killing me.
