Generally, the PPC agents are canon experts who are good at figuring out what can and can't work. However, there are exceptions: the best thing to do is make it funny. Put them in a queue for a million years to find the information via a garbled phone call that sounds like it came from inside a rusty baked bean tin on the dark side of Mars. =]
