He found a bunch of them on an island and called it 'Rottnest Island.'
Rat nest.
Because, you know. Thought they were rats. On a giant nest.
He later described it as 'a paradise on earth,' so he must have really liked rats, too.
But, nah, they're part of macropodidae, which is the family that includes kangaroos and such.
It's a good thing, then, that Willem never figured that out.

The last one isn't very cute (it might be a bit rude to call it an animal, too), but I think the snakes help makes this post add up to an ultimate sense of general cuteness.

It was introduced in Generation V to complete the pollution trio of Koffing (who is
helpingan airborne sea mine with a silly grin) and Grimer (a sentient blob of pestilential ooze who, in Hawaii, has taken to eating lots of mustard). Both of those are from Gen I. =] -
