Who wants to be the very best, like no-one ever was?
That's right, it's time for the PPC Pokémon Tournament signups to begin!
In keeping with the pattern I have going so far—normal rules, special rules, normal rules, special—this year, we're doing a slightly different format. Instead of singles battles, the format this year... is doubles.
Since last time, the double elimination bracket took us literal months to complete the tournament, we'll be going back to a single elimination format in the hopes of wrapping the tournament up by June.
See the rules list here, along with the team lineups, bracket, et cetera, et cetera.
And I do apologize for not starting signups at the beginning of March like normal; it just totally slipped my mind.
You have one month to sign up and/or finalize your team. April 20th will mark the last day for signups, and then the bracket will be posted and the battles can begin.
Happy battling!
Haven't really managed to get my brain in gear to think of it, so this is as good a time as any to break out:
Team Second Worst Swordsman
Fuzzball the Togekiss
Snowball the Glalie
Baseball the Golem
Beachball the Aurorus
Hardball the Skarmory
Goofball the Greninja
And for substitution...
the return of Katie Boundary the Death Malteaser (Minior).
It looks like we're at six signups now, plus I assume Iximaz, so hopefully that's enough for a tournament? I'm happy to bring along the Baby Firestarters (Charmander, Cyndaquil, Torchic, Tepig, Fennekin, Litten, with Chimchar watching from the sidelines) as a 'joke' team so the person who gets a by in round 1 can still play a battle, if you want.

The team will come later, once I understand the doubles/single differences better... And I can choose a monotype myself (Why break this poor combo, EPL?). Like hS, I'm looking for tips here, and perhaps opinions on what type choose (I'm hesitating between Psy, Ghost, Dark and Fairy).
I'm more than willing to go play some on Showdown with my main team (that I won't be using in the tourney, that's just unfair) and either let you spectate or I can grab the recorded links and shove them on a post on here if you want (or both). It'd let you see some of the more common combo's on the ladder as well as hopefully give you more of an idea of what moves to pick, 'mons to play. And if you want to ask anyway questions, I'm available on Discord or you can email me them if you want, my email is clickable.
This goes out to everyone, not just Hardric, I just thought I'd respond here first.
Novastorme
And I'm sure other Doubles newbies will be too. And I think that would be more practical than direct watching. This one is nice too, but depends on being free at the same time as you. I'll think to ask you if any particular questioncomes to mind.
((Okay, that's settled, I'll go for a Fairy monotype.))

The opposing team looks really weird, you rarely take 3 pokemon all with the same (common) weakness, but the team idea there was a decent one... It could of just been better, especially considering there will be plenty of phasing pokemon out there with either Roar, Whirlwind or Dragon Tail to switch you out or Haze to eliminate your stat changes.

But it's also a good look at synergy between two pokemon.
I know I said I'd put lots of battle links up here and I haven't. I either haven't had the time or have forgotten to actually get the links after the battle.
What I would suggest is trying the Random Double Battles Tier instead, while it may not have an entire team you'll be happy with, it does give you an idea of the tactics used, and can show off some Pokemon that otherwise don't get much competitive viability limelight.
As of last year.

Both for personal reasons, and because of the Circle. I can't count on having enough Internet time left to play a match of Pokémon Showdown.
Best of luck to those who are participating, though!
Are we doing a monotype tournament again or is it just coincidence that the three folks who've signed up already all have a monotype team?
Team:
Luther the Ampharos (can mega evolve)
Fortune the Clefable
Miles the Swampert
Saraabi the Pyroar
Vanessa the Sensu Oricorio
Joseph the Claydol
Reserve: Dalton the Galvantula
No team as yet, though. For you Pokeknowledgeable types, what are the important things to consider when putting a Doubles team together?
hS
In doubles battles you've got to consider how many pokemon your moves hit, for example moves like Earthquake, Discharge and Surf hit all the pokemon besides the user, including allies. Whereas moves like Heat Wave and Rock Slide will hit both enemies. You've also got to consider moves like Ally Switch or Heal Pulse that are meant to target allies, not enemies and so are useless in single battles. Finally moves like Trick Room or Tailwind see a lot more use in Double battles, as well as weather conditions alongside abilities that benefit within said weather, for example Sandstorm and Sand Force, or Hail and Ice Body.
Will we be using Pokemon Online or some other sim?
It also has this nifty feature that lets you save battles so they can be linked in the document for posterity. :)

Let's keep the theme going:
1. Ninetales-Alola
2. Lapras
3. Mamoswine
4. Articuno
5. Aurous
6. Glaceon
7. Kyurem-Black
Although I have to ask Ix, did you know my Top 500 team *before* banning half of it? (despite only one of them now being banned on the Doubles OU ladder?) :p
Oh well, time to come up with a different team.
All I can say for the moment is. Winds will change.
Or at least for now (I may change my mind). And remember, you can blame Scape for this.
Main team: Pelliper, Swampert, Volcanion, Tapu Fini, Araquanid, Milotic.
Spare: Greninja
So let's add a little bit of Lightning and Thunder to the mix (aka I'm changing up my team)
This time I've even got a theme for them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKopy74weus
Main: Raichu-Alola, Tapu Koko, Stunfisk, Emolga, Electivire, Lanturn. Spare: Eelektross.
It's Pelipper.
Because the Doubles List is here: https://www.smogon.com/dex/sm/formats/doubles/
Thanks very much for catching that. I'm a derp.
In fact it makes my decision harder, do I go for an adapted version of my top 500 team, or do I go for a slightly different team...
Testing a few teams at the moment. One of them has no business being as effective as it is, but it is certainly a fun team to play with
