Adoption request for Natalie Green (paging Tawaki) by
on 2021-03-01 21:04:40 UTC
Reply
I've never done one of these before, so if I make a mistake, please correct me!
I want to adopt Natalie Green and was told to try and get Tawaki's attention since he tends to plug in badfic from time to time here.
My plans for Natalie are to get her a partner and transfer her to the DF (if that's alright), then do missions with her and her partner.
I don't know what else to put. I have a mission written, so I don't think I need to provide a writing sample (but feel free to correct me) and I don't know what other check boxes I need to check off, so I think that's it?
-Kittyauthor, adopting a PPC character for the first time and being utterly confused on how to do it.

I actually borrowed her a couple years back for a Continuity Council gag; I should save that off and mention it on the Wiki.
It shouldn't interfere with anything you have planned - literally all it says is that she was missing for an undefined period, and that she's met the Continuity Council (poor lamb). :)
I'm not sure I've actually seen an Official Adoption outside of in-the-moment 'I rescued this character, who wants them?', but this looks like a good way of doing it. I'm not sure how often Tawaki checks the Board outside of his occasional posts, but it's worth a try.
Personally I just make off with the characters I'm adopting and hope nobody objects, but they don't usually have even-slightly-active writers around. :)

Yay! More reasons to read hS stuff! From what I've glanced over, it shouldn't. It actually gives me more of a solid idea now, so thank you for that!
Anyhow, back to homework. Glad to see that no one has any objections to the adoption (but it isn't official, since the creator hasn't replied... I think).
-kA, because fudge it, I want two initials!
(PS: I don't trust myself to spell names ATM, hence the very vague "creator" instead of his actual name. I have been known to misspell a lot of names in the PPC.)

Well. Unfortunately, I'm not certain I can really take offense to that, on second thought. I really can't think why my first self wanted to go into politics so badly, if it was anything like this.

Randomly: PPC Time Lord art! by

Which PPC Time Lord? All the PPC Time Lords!
As of... well, now, pretty much (so none of the retired lot are present). Derived from the Wiki's list. I don't know what got them all together, but I do know the Notary didn't like it.
The full description is on DeviantArt, but feel free to play Who's That Time Lord first. ^_^

Front row, left to right: The Fisherman, the Detective, the Aviator (with Elanorelisindrivar on shoulders) Second row, left-right: The Notary, the Reader Third row, left-right: ???, the Agent, the Disentangler Back row, left to right: Morgan, ???
The two ???s are frankly stumping me despite having the Wiki Page on Time Lords pulled up. I think the one next to the Agent is the Guardsman? Though the lack of a tricorn hat is throwing me.
Cute art, and I love the detail of Ellie having her granddad's goggles on her head. :)

Correct. :) by

The Guardsman is... basically not on the Wiki. His entry in the Time Lord page links to the Glossary, which gives one appearance, in which his description is 1/ male ex-soldier and 2/ Inverness coat. So I had to interpolate.
Dis probably stole the hat to mess with him. ^_~
The Trekkie next to Morgan is Natalie Green herself. Ostensibly she's the inspiration for the whole picture... but Ave and co kind of stole the show.
(I assume she hasn't yet noticed that Ellie has lost a shoe somehow... :D)

I adopted Salok and T'Zar from Tawaki a while back. by

Did it pretty much exactly like this, actually. I made a post, eventually he saw it and approved the adoption, and that was it. I think Lily Winterwood did the same, though I no longer remember who she adopted. Someone could also call his attention to it next time he pops up.

I don't think I remember actually seeing it happen, though. :)
It seems like Tawaki is absolutely incredible at making characters that people really want to see more of. That's four separate adoptions!

As in, 'it may well have happened, but I can't compare this to it because I don't remember it.'
Looking it up... would it alarm you to learn that you made your adoption almost eight years ago? It certainly surprised me!
Looks like Lily got herself a couple of Time Lords only two months earlier, and Outhra swiped an unnamed character at the same time... crazy to think that was all nearly half the PPC's lifetime ago.

Right, then!
Yeah, that's strange to think about. I'd certainly forgotten I adopted T'Zar so early on, though of course it would've had to be before 2015. Going by context in that thread, I have a feeling Lily emailed him and that's why I tried the same thing first; I have a very vague memory of that, now I'm seeing the thread again.
Also, per that thread, Hermione of Vulcan adopted Sebak (a Vulcan!) then as well.
Also, are you implying I've been a Boarder for about half the PPC's existence? O.o

The Board was founded on November 3rd 2002, which is exactly 18 1/3 years ago. You first posted in January 2013, which is... 8 1/6 years ago. In one more year, you'll have been here half the life of the Board.
Which is a bit crazy. o.O

Well, then.
I, uh, I guess next year's Boardiversary post will have some extra meaning, then!
(This is very odd, I'll have you know. As is the thought that next year will mark nine years of Boarder...ing...?)
Right. Well. Enough weirdness for one day, I think!
Oh, actually, something vaguely connected: I was going through PPC pictures recently (for purposes of Elves) and spotted what I assume is a screenshot labeled something along the lines of "the Board on April Fool's Day 2013" (aka "that thing that spawned all the Blackout ficlets"). I think we have a picture up on the wiki, honestly, but I don't remember how much it shows? Anyway, I have one too!
~Z
PS: Elves. Unfortunately, the thing I was using to make the images runs on Flash Player, and is insistent that I don't have the most recent version...and Flash Player has been discontinued. So much for further remakes of the ones I did in 2015!

Because a) I always recommend writing (especially when a good writer is involved), and b) it's what I did for my fifteenth.
Ah, the Blackout... that one really took off, it was great fun. I, um, don't think we do have a picture, actually - if we do, it's not anywhere obvious. Are you able to stick it somewhere accessible?
hS
PS: I... have... no idea what you're talking about, but it sounds fascinating. The E-word always does. ^_~

That was pretty amusing. And potentially inspiring >.> I'm tempted to try to do a vaguely similar thing and gather together every PPC character I've ever come up with, which is also kind of a lot (fewer, but still a lot), but...well, who knows. Something could come out of that recommendation, anyway.
...well, in fitting anniversary!return to newbie feeling:
did hS just call me a good writer?? flails :PThe Blackout! You're right, there somehow isn't a photo! I was so sure there was, but it's not on the Blackout page or on the April Fool's Day page. It does exist on my hard drive, though, and I've even tracked it down again (it was not where I thought it would be). As for sticking it somewhere accessible--I can just put it up on the wiki? That's probably the simplest, apart from just plain emailing it to you (which is also an option, and possibly even faster). I might go ahead and either blank out or translate the Hebrew ads that are visible, though (come to think of it, I could actually just put English text over the Hebrew...it's an amusing ad, for some IQ test thing where it's asking how many legs this illustration of an elephant has). The screenshot itself shows everything down to the first post on the page, which was, of course, "First mission posted! --DawnFire".
~Z
PS: I had reason to look through pictures I'd made of my Calaquendi agents, and even track down an informative email I'd sent to Lily Winterwood when I was first making most of them. Said email has interesting things about their
color-codingchoice of colors worn, and where the heck I got it from. Unfortunately, the dollmaker thing I used to make most of these images in 2015 (and a Naergondir remake in 2018) runs on Flash Player, which is now discontinued, and mine either isn't up to date or...well, the site insists it's out of date, anyway. So no more really pretty Elf images from that front, unless they decide to rejig the game. Of course, there are other fronts, hence why I was looking at all of this stuff to begin with... ;)PPS: It turns out that both of these agents actually already have wiki pages with nothing but infoboxes on them! I had completely forgotten about that (as is, I suppose, obvious by the infoboxes-only state they're in). I'm going to have to fix that, at some point, which is, of course, complicated slightly by the fact that their recruitment isn't exactly...finished, much less up. I can probably either write around it or figure I'll just run with giving those spoilers, which are kind of mild to begin with and probably known by at least a handful of people by now anyway. It was tragic. They're Noldor (mostly. Primarily. Gurnirel has a Vanyarin parent or grandparent, but is functionally Noldorin overall). Things don't tend to go that well for First Age Noldor.

Hi Z and hS!
If you two are still interested in finishing the missions that you started with me but I dropped because my brain is worse than a squirrel on PCP, I hereby give you two (and you two only) permission to use any of my Agents in any way you wish. Just run the pieces by me before you post so I can check for ICness.
Anything that's like... a major life event (like marriages or death) will have to be discussed with me ahead of time, but you both have my email and I check it fairly regularly. Other than that feel free to use my characters for your nefarious purposes because I trust you both.

I do still intend to finish that very long partial cowrite... though I think it was my attention span which killed it, rather than yours. It's been ludicrously close to the end for years now, so... yeah. :)
It's good to see you around again, even only for a bit.

Okay, okay, but listen, I more or less woke up to this, and wasn't expecting it at all. Hello! I see you have another post up the Board in which odds are you've answered "how are you?" so I won't ask here.
Re: the edit--you can still call me Dawn! I don't mind. I switched screen names a few years ago because I very much felt like I'd outgrown the DawnFire handle as my main screen name (I still use it in most other places, but I'm less active and/or very few people use it as a form of address), but I said at the time (and still mean it) that if people who called me Dawn before still want to do it, that's fine by me. You certainly fall into that category.
Okay, now for what you actually wrote: well :) now I feel special. Thank you! That's really great :) I think there actually is at least one mission I want to finish at some point--the Necromancer one. It has, funnily enough considering your post title, so much Calaquendi agents backstory/early HQ happenings in it that I've been thinking for a while now that it'd be nice to somehow, someday, finish it off and spruce it up. There's also Jacques' recruitment, which...well, actually, this opens up the possibilities there? We'll see. Either way, that's amazing! And possibly helpful from a general Jacques perspective (I've been writing historical stuff for him)...and a T'Zar perspective, actually...hmmm. Many possibilities. Absolutely fantastic :) Currently, I think the main life event type stuff I'd want to run by you has to do with Gurnirel, but you never know!
Anyway! Incredible :) Nefarious purposes and ICness checks it is! I will (very slowly, probably >.>) run wild :)
~Z, having an increasingly great morning at this rate

It's really funny, a couple months back I ran into a "Dawn McKenna" on Facebook and just had all of the visceral flashbacks, ahaha! Yes, that other post above has some life updates.
Yes, I do believe the Necromancer fic had all of the backstory! It's been years though and I suspect the text of the fic being missioned itself might no longer exist... unless we've backed it up somewhere. (hS's post about how you've been here for 8 years and everyone on Discord calling me old is. Making me feel old lol)
Please feel free to drop me an email with your plans re: Gurnirel! In my head E and C have been retired in New Caledonia since at least 2016 HST. I have one unpublished mission with a YOI Suefic showing this but since I'm a little bit known in YOI fandom I didn't want to publish it. But feel free to ask me for a link to the gdoc!
And as mentioned in the other post I made, I've been using E in canon-extra form (and Himdor) in other LotR/Hobbit fics. She's been quizzing Bilbo on Sindarin mostly haha. But that's pretty separate from her uses in the PPC so it shouldn't really affect stuff at all haha
So yes, please feel free, for all the nefarious purposes ;)

I think I must have been tired when I wrote that previous post; it sounds horribly like Early Noughts hS. :-/
^_^ Your commentary on elves reminds me that I need to figure out whether Agent hS is the same person as Meldon, making him half-Noldo, half-Teler. Maybe I can track down my notes and figure out if Meldon was also gonna get balrog-stomped... what was it you said about First Age Noldor? :D
EDIT: Yeeeeep, that's him. "Chapter 22 - Bragollach begins. FIN at Meldon's death." So I guess he has backstory!

So! It's been a while since I've posted here - sorry about that.
Anyway, I've been thinking about adopting an agent for some time as well, so I figure this is about as good of a time as any to ask.
i'm kinda in the same situation as Kittyauthor, where I'm thinking of adopting Melpomene but I know her author (also Tawaki) isn't on too often, so I dunno how this'll work? But might as well try this anyways.
