So if you don't speak Russian (well or at all) and want to know what they're saying.
With apologies to Commander Shepard, you told me that Frodo volunteered!

According to Wikipedia, it's actually an adaptation of Fellowship specifically. It features Tom Bombadil, though! And the Barrow-Wight! I will definitely be taking a run through it and screenshotting the best bits.
Apparently there's also a (never-lost) Finnish version, Hobitit, which not only includes Tom Bom, but also the never-otherwise-seen Scouring of the Shire. Honestly, at some point some-me is going to have to go through and put together a comparison of the characters in each version.
Assuming, y'know, I can even figure out who's who... :D

I have worked my way through the first part (the video isn't just randomly split in two, it does seem to be two episodes), and transcribed a synopsis of what's going on.
Comrade Tolkien! Dancing Lobelia! Black Riders who can only come in threes because that's how many horses they had! And of course, the best, the greatest, the most adored and admired character in all of Middle-earth: Tom Bombadil is in this!
^_^ ^_^ ^_^
I will definitely be watching Part Two.

This thing is a wild, wild ride. You can view my entire synopsis here, in which you will find, in no particular order:
- Enormous Tom Bombadil.
- Three Black Riders (because that's how many horses we have).
- Legolass (has no lines and isn't even in the credits).
- Elves on drugs.
- Barrow-clowns.
- The Mines of Bluescreen.
- Sideburns for miles.
- And lots and lots of tinfoil.
Overall, this has a clear "we wrote a stage play and then filmed it for TV" vibe (the makeup is very stage-y). It's... quite an experience.

Boromir looked sort of like the Roger Delgado Master, I thought.

He got taken out by barely half a dozen Orcs Who Say Ni. I wouldn't put Frodo in either, he'd just bang some sticks together and hide behind his hat.
I don't think Gimli ever did any fighting (too busy being a table), Merry is too busy giving the camera meaningful looks, and Pippin has too many sideburns to do anything. I'm... not at all sure Sam had any lines, come to think of it.
So yeah, it's down to Aragorn (whose hair gets larger and larger as the show goes on), Boromir (auditioning for the role of Evil Wizard), and Legolass (who was thrilled to have a fight sequence; her dad clearly never let her have any fun).
I am genuinely 95% sure Legolas was not only played by, but intended to be a woman. The only reason I'm not positive is that some of the hobbits also occasionally wear masses of lipstick, so maybe that was just a Thing in Leningrad.
