Like a Wink and a Smile, Episode 2: "Attachments" (also on AO3, with formatting intact, even!)
Just Part One for now, because it is a Multimedia Extravaganza with Divers Links and Ten Thousand Elephants!
Okay, maybe not that last bit. And you don't have to listen to the songs that are linked. But we think it's more fun if you do. {= ) We've also provided a handy Gdoc with all the lyrics, if you can't/don't want to engage with the audio or do want to follow along.
If you are a new or returning Boarder (or just missed it the first time), we humbly suggest you start with Episode One: "Crossing the Coffee Table" (AO3).
If you enjoy J2 half as much as we do, we will be very pleased. ^_^

I'm the sort of person who does everything with the sound firmly off, so listening along was never in the cards. ;)
My main reaction is that it all feels really familiar - because this was my life and Kaitlyn's for a good four years, when there was an Atlantic between us. This from Jenni snagged my eye:
I did a silly thing. Woke up in the middle of the night, thought I’d just glance at the inbox, not really expecting anything. Yet there you were. And now I don’t want to go back to sleep.
I can imagine writing those exact words back in the day. :)
(I also appreciated the mention of NutMint ^_^. I actually have a third Broadcast Schedule half written from way back; perhaps someday I shall finish it.)

I was definitely drawing on my own experience of sharing Meaningful Songs back and forth with Phobos when we first started dating (there was a summer break; not as annoying as a whole Atlantic for four years, but still annoying), and I'm pretty sure Zingenmir has done the long-distance relationship thing, too.
And as epitomized in that message, your brain gets all full of anticipation and hormones, and every cycle you've got gets thrown for a loop, and (IMO) it's awful. {X D But worth it in the end.
Thanks for reading!

Forgive me for a shorter review than usual, but uh, well. Romance and all that, not much to say on that front? And I also skipped the posts about Buffy to avoid spoilers. Sorry.
Some things I did enjoy: - the little running gags with the "J" and "J2," the "x"s towards the end, and the ever-increasing mountain of "re" in the subject lines - Jenni's list of HQ-themed come-on phrases. Both hilarious and cringey! - The 2018 video sliding back to 2013. I feel like, realistically, HQ must see a lot more future content appearing at any given moment than we're able to convey, because of the unstable time dimension and all. But alas, our writing is heavily reactionary, and it's hard to react to things we aren't aware of yet. : (
Now if you'll excuse me, I have a whole lot of song files to pirate and burn to a CD. Or rather multiple CDs, as that's quite a playlist you two threw together!

I don't think the Buffy parts are very spoilery beyond "these characters are around." Jacques hasn't seen the whole show yet at this time, either. ^_~ Maaaybe skip the track "I've Got a Theory" to be safe, but even the biggest spoiler there isn't much of one if you think about it.
Interestingly—Zingenmir, I don't know if I've told you this, but I should have!—the "Once More With Feeling" soundtrack was what really made me want to watch the show. I heard the soundtrack before I saw the first episode, but since I barely had any idea who was who, it was sort of impossible for it to spoil me much. It might be different for someone who's seen a good bit of it already.
Yay, counting the Res was worth it!
Agreed about future stuff slipping back in time to HQ! And, well, once we heard that song, we couldn't not use it. It's just perfect for their relationship so far. <3
Nice to hear you're appreciating the music in general, too!

I read this a few days ago, and what I can remember thinking was that it took me a moment to work out what was going on in the beginning, but once I understood it I really liked reading all the emails and the barely-disguised flirting.
Good stuff, can't wait for part 3.

What a wonderful way to spend my morning - epistolary fic always has a soft spot with me nowadays~
These two are certainly a match for wit, warmth, and (sometimes not-so) hidden histories.
Looking forward to the next part, and I'm glad you two had fun writing (and your beta had fun beta-ing, or so I presume)!

I have so much PPC content to catch up on, it feels like I'm reading eight things at once, but I am definitely looking forward to the next bit of this! They have such great chemistry. It's really nice seeing them flirt and you build anticipation very well!
