Tor's eBook of the Month is Gideon The Ninth! For the low, low price of your email address, you can get a free copy at https://ebookclub.tor.com/
Gideon the Ninth is really good. Necromancy, duels, lesbians, space travel, a little body horror because, y'know, necromancy. It's by a Homestuck fan, and it shows- the narrator snarks at everything, the drama and melodrama are wonderful, and there's even face paint. If these things are interesting, you could spend time worse than giving it a read!
The book was quite good and has a lot of twists and turns - and also ... aaaaaaaaaa. [concerned noises after ending]

No really I keep running into fiction with gay necromancers in it suddenly and I don't know why this is happening.
Anyways, I've got another friend sitting three chairs away in the class I'm supposed to be paying attention to right now who swears by Gideon The Ninth, so... uh... I really need to get around to this one.
In addition to everything you mentioned, a friend of mine described it as like Warhammer 40k but the protagonist knows it's grimderp? I'm not at all surprised it's popped up in this crowd. ^_^
I am intrigued. Can you recommend a free .epub reader? I've looked around a bit to see if such a thing exists (it does!), but a recommendation from a more tech-savvy friend would be appreciated.
