I've had this OFU idea for a while (I think since I learned they were A Thing, which was probably January 2020) of a Rescue Bots OFU. I call it: Rescue Bots Academy for Fanfiction! With a variety of classes, including "How to Steal and Sell Power," "Villains 101," "How to Actually Write a Script/Play," and, of course, "SPaG: What Is It?"

As well as other classes.

I need student submissions! You don't need to know a ton (or any!) Rescue Bots! I decided to (finally) formalize the form after hS started the Encanto OFU. Here it is:

Let's break it down, step-by-step:

Student's Name: Any Earth name. If your fanfic writer is silly enough to select "cybertronian" on species, then please put in parentheses what their 'bot name is.

Species (Human, half-human, or cybertronian): Self-explanatory.

Age: Between the age of 13 and 20, please!

Gender: What your character's gender is and their preferred pronouns. Please also note which one the narrative should use.

Appearance: Be brief! If cybertronian, then explain what they look like and what their second form is. Please no extravagant second-forms (so no big, passenger airplanes) but useless ones are fine (like a not-normally-sized electric train)

Personality: Be brief! Are they bouncy, shy, energetic, quiet, bossy?

Favorite Character: As in, favorite Rescue Bots character. If you don't know any, I can assign one, but if you really want your character to lust after Kade, then put Kade.

Anything else noteworthy?: What types of fic do they write? Their biggest writing flaw? Anything else I should know, like allergies?

And I think that's it. I already have a couple of characters created, and I don't care how many people sign up! I want to try and incorporate them all. Thank you in advance for signing up

Just a heads up: I've mostly watched the G1 cartoons and not rescue bots but I'll try my best.

Student's Name: James Wilson

Species: Human

Age: 17

Gender: Male (he/him)

Appearance: Average height, slightly chubby, brunette hair that could probably use a haircut. He'd probably wear this shirt or something similar with jeans and trainers. He also wears glasses.

Personality: The faux intellectual type who thinks he's about 10 times more mature than he actually is. Considers anything short of grimdark "baby stuff" and anyone who doesn't like grim and edgy stuff dumb babies. Likes to read his phone while hiding it inside an intellectual looking book. Often uses deep sounding quotes wrong since he doesn't really understand them.

Favorite Character: If he had to pick one it would probably be whoever's grittiest.

Anything else noteworthy?: Never actually watched the show aside from a few scenes he saw his sister watch. Decided to write fanfic that would "improve" the story by making it more "realistic" (aka. edgy). Most of his knowledge comes from wiki pages and the other transformers series he's watched.

Ok here's the other one.

Species: Human

Age: 16

Gender: Female (she/her)

Appearance: Slightly above average height, longish brown hair tied in pigtails. She wears large glasses with one of the arms haphazardly taped on, a transformers merch shirt, jean shorts and trainers. She also has a costume of one of her OCs made entirely of cardboard boxes.

Personality: Loud and boisterous, tends to try and dominate any conversation she's in. Loves to ramble. Likes drawing and painting. Squees at stuff. A lot. Especially if it's cute. Pretty obnoxious about her OCs.

Favorite Character: Her OCs of course <3

Anything else noteworthy?: She mostly writes OC fic. When she's not writing OC fic she's drawing her OCs. Unfortunately she focuses more on how cool they look and how her OC team are basically the main characters but better (or are the ideal romantic partners for them) than on giving them a proper personality. Beyond their AWESUM exteriors and single defining personality trait they're all either empty shells, clones of canon characters or self inserts. She loves the series and making OCs is her way of showing that, but she's not yet learned how not to churn out 10 Mary Sues a day.

Alice, of course, was having difficulty thinking of her next fic.

She wanted to write a fanfic taking place in her favorite series (which she had thus far neglected to write about), but where would she start? Maybe with her favorite, Blades? She twirled her blond hair around her finger. James at school would probably tease her to death about writing the "baby Blades, you baby" if she were to ever reveal it. She sighed. That's probably what was holding her back, this miniature version of James living rent-free in her skull and-

If you've had that name in mind for a while, please keep it! Your protagonist should have higher priority than a side-character I made up on the fly. {= )

OTOH, if you're not that attached to it, it might help not to have two characters with the same name in stories running at the same time.

I know absolutely nothing about Rescue Bots, but might as well sign up anyway.

Name: Vanya Cooper

Species: Human

Age: 16

Gender: Female. She/they

Appearance: Short, tan-skinned, and stocky. Wears extremely heavy black eyeliner. She has (dyed) green hair and multiple ear piercings. She has freckles and brown eyes, although she wears red contacts to be EdGy. Wears nothing but black.

Personality: Sarcastic, overdramatic, and generally trying way too hard to be edgy. She thinks she’s being cool and trendy by saying things like “her heart is a black hole” but only succeeds in being annoying. In reality, Vanya is cheerful and friendly, but heaven forbid someone see it. It might distract from her “gofficness” and “I am the ice queen” act.

Favorite Character: She hasn’t even watched the show and only wrote the fanfic that got her here on a drunk dare.

Anything else noteworthy? She wrote one terrible crossover slash featuring Eòwyn and one of the female bots on a drunken dare. Vanya was very embarrassed later, but it was too late for her.

Don’t worry, Vanya gets better after her stint in the OFU. She even becomes a PPC agent and is partnered with a certain Thalia Quinn ;).

I know zilch about Rescue Bots, but I'll try to pitch you something you can adapt for the purpose!

Name: Nella Bauer (Eccotone)

Species: Cybertronian

Age: 14

Gender: Cis female, she/her

Appearance: She has a dolphin form. It might be a small submarine that looks like a dolphin, but then again it might be an actual robo-dolphin a la Beast Wars ~~because that's the one Transformers show I actually watched~~; pick whatever sounds more fun to write. Her anthropoid form is unusually sleek and doesn't really fit the show's aesthetic. Colors are silver and blue with green eyes.

Personality: Kind; sincere; clueless.

Favorite Character: The angsty antihero one who just needs someone to really listen to him and break through his shell. (Every ensemble show has one of those, right? I have no idea, plz halp. ^_^; )

Other: Nella earnestly wants to save the world from climate change and figures she just needs the right team of dedicated friends to do it. She is completely naive about her chances of even making a dent. She isn't a gamer and has no idea why people keep accusing her of stealing the name "Ecco." She also doesn't understand why people keep saying her fic is ripping off Captain Planet. (She's never heard of him. He must be a DC character. Marvel is way better!) Her fic is technically a power fantasy about rallying the good guys (and possibly even the bad guys) around her self-insert, but it's just so gosh-darn well-meaning and optimistic it's hard to see through the rainbows you just vomited.

Did a bit of wiki-walking, and Blurr seems more the arrogant, brash type?

I find myself more interested in kind-but-timid Blades—but on the other hand, Salvage has an actual recycle symbol on, which fits so well with Nella's/Eccotone's "let's save the planet" shtick that it's pretty tempting to point at him. {X D Plus, he seems a bit hard done-by, getting caught up in Blurr's nonsense through no fault of his own, so that fits my her type, too.

I'll also note that Vigil seems like exactly the sort of villain who only ended up as one through a misunderstanding followed by a failure of everyone to use their words. Sounds redeemable to me! He also happens to be voiced by Bill Mumy, who I know as Lennier from Babylon 5, which automatically makes him cool in my book. ^_^ It's a shame he seems to be a stationary console, but since the wiki says he gains the ability to jump into different devices, it's not much of a stretch to imagine a fic where he gets his own body, perhaps as part of a happy ending where he learns to get along and maybe even finds love...

Well, those are just some thoughts. A wiki obviously isn't a patch on the actual TV show, so I'll leave the final decision up to your discretion. Do what sounds most fun to write!

Heh. Blades would probably be like "ooo dolphin alt-form! Why can't I have an alt-form like that?" ~~Because the Narrative Laws say so, Blades~~ And yeah, Salvage is Blurr's friend but also occasionally gets 100% fed up with him. Fairly occasionally. I could see funny either way

Also, on the note of Vigil: I know it was probably listed, but he was meant to be a safety controller for Griffin Rock, meant to help keep the island safe. It was the mayor's fault why he is like he is: a control freak. Had the mayor let Doc Greene configure Vigil to less than 100% safety rating, Vigil wouldn't be an enemy (at least, in my eyes), so it's partly the mayor's fault. He could've been a help, but no. So a redemption could totally happen.

Also, the second (and last? Maybe?) episode Vigil appears in, he jumps from tech to tech and isn't in his console, but this sacrifices his ~~sanity~~ ability to control everything... and probably his redemption, too.

For a redemption fic, I'm thinking, after Vigil powers down, instead of throwing him to the Island of Misfit Tech, he's reprogammed (slightly) to want less than 100% safety, then thrown on the island. Through his visit at the island, he still learns how to hop tech... but doesn't want to utterly make "Griffin Rock 100% safe," so he learns things. ~~oh gods do I have another idea when I already have a million and one things to work on? Nooooo!~~

Gender: Cisfemale, she/her/hers

Appearance: Straight blonde hair worn long, wears a lot of pink stuff with girlboss slogans on it. Would wear snap filters irl. Very fashion-conscious. Hazel eyes. Wears contacts because glasses make her face look stupid. Pretty, but thinks she's a lot prettier than she is. Like, a lot a lot.

Personality: Shallow, vapid "rich ovgpu" kind of girl. You've seen girls like her having full-blown meltdowns on My Super Sweet 16 because the new car she got given by her dad didn't match her shoes or something. Cares about being the queen of her high school. Does not care about your feelings. In fact, it's funny to her that you care about stuff. Spreads rumours and gossip just to see what happens. Genuinely thinks that high school is everything. Has yet to be proven wrong. Will probably wind up a thirtysomething psycho helicopter mom with a valium addiction and a fixation on living vicariously through the daughter she had with some other loser who peaked in high school.

Favorite Character: "I mean I guess Quickie or whatever was kinda cool but whatever."

Anything else noteworthy?: Braelynn is a Popular Girl at her podunk Nevada high school, on account of being a conventionally blonde cheerleader type. She's also just... not into the show. She only pretended to be into it to string along a nerdy boy at her school who really loved the show, and eventually wrote a huge, really nasty fic in which they both get transported into the setting... and she snarks about how the whole thing's dumb while he got abused for comic relief and told what a useless loser he was by all the main cast and Optimus Prime, who was also there for some reason. CW: discussions of suicide

Student's Name: Jacob Ethrax. Not Jake.

Species: Human. He thought about putting half-human to add an air of mystery, but wasn't sure what the other half was.

Age: 16

Gender: Male. He/him.

Appearance: Average height, quite skinny. Brown hair which is just long enough that it tends to scruffy. Would like to consider his face to be gaunt and pale, but actually his cheeks are a bit chubby, he has lots of freckles, and at least one big spot that just won't go away. Wears mostly black, including a long black coat which he likes to swish around "dramatically".

Personality: Jacob believes he would be the perfect secret agent. Unfortunately his attempts to sound suave or mysterious actually come out cripplingly embarrassing, and he only registers this a second too late. Gets quietly sullen if there's a plan to be made and someone /else/ makes it - particularly if he 'had that idea first' but only vaguely alluded to it.

Favorite Character: The red one. He has only seen the show when his little sister Melissa was watching, and he never got the red robot's name. Also, if there are multiple red robots, he is unable to remember the difference between them.

Anything else noteworthy?: Has written two fanfics of the show: one for Melissa, who asked, about several bits with misremembered names saving the world; and one where he and his friends (or rather the people he would like to be his friends, but now they're all secret agents but still 16) taking a portal to the show and being the best at everything.

One of those friends is an alternate version of Agent Lou of the PPC. She is fully aware of this, because all her versions are still her. He isn't.
