You know the type of badfic that I really hate – canon rehashing (which is basically plagiarism of canonical content)? Welp, I used to write one of those when I was really young, in the late 2000s-early 2010s, which I deleted when I wised up. I may or may not qualify to participate in content creation ever again until the day I die.

That's probably why you hate it. by

Me, I have a thing against angelic-child characters... why? Because my first Mary Sue was one of them. There's a reason most authors here have sporked their own hilariously bad first efforts.

If producing poor-quality content meant you could never make anything ever again... by

...I think that would disqualify most if not all creative endeavours. It would certainly have disqualified me. Very few people start out making amazing, flawless stuff right away. Becoming better is a sure thing, but only if you keep it up. Imitation is the highest form of flattery. Mimicking things you love is the absolute first step for a lot of people, that later go on to find their own voice.

You realized it was bad, and deleted it. I don’t think you’ve anything to worry about. I’ve written some less-than-stellar stuff. It’s fine.
(Though if you hadn’t deleted it, you could’ve PPC’d it.)

That's the whole point - you've learned and grown as a writer. by

On its best days, the whole point of the PPC is to say "this is what you've done badly, you can do better". The fact that all of us have grown in that exact way is proof that it is possible, if you put the effort in.

We're not going to run you out of town for having written stuff in a genre/style you now hate. We've all done stuff like that before. What matters more is that you don't be too hard on yourself for it and just strive to write better by whatever new yardstick of quality you choose.
