Bookworm at your service! takes off Dwarven hood and bows I have been tremendously busy with calculus and other things. I am now back for a little bit. I present you with two little bits of Silmarillion fanfic. Feel free to poke holes in them and give advice.
Still they are shining
Now in their sundered dwellings
Untouched by evilIt was after supper one evening. Maglor was sitting outside the house with his foster sons, Elros and Elrond watching the stars come out.
“Well, my boys, I think tomorrow morning would be a good time to go fishing,” said Maglor.
“Can we, Atar?” asked Elros, jumping up from the bench where he sat.
“Yes, we will,” said Maglor. “And now, if you will kindly refrain from jumping off the walls, it is time for bed. Look, I will go myself.” He walked back into the house. The twins followed him, laughing.
The next morning, well before the sun was up, he was awakened by the sounds of Elrond and Elros racing each other to see who could get ready the quickest.
“Can you not let an old elf sleep until a decent hour of the morning?” This was not the first time the twins woke him up absurdly early. -

I like the haiku. ^_^
Regarding the Maglor snippet, hS may have more to say about this than I can, but my understanding is that elves don't necessarily sleep like humans do. I like the idea of Maglor pretending in order to get the kids to go to bed, though!

The quotes in question are “Legolas already lay motionless, his fair hands folded upon his breast, his eyes un-closed, blending living night and deep dream, as is the way with Elves.” and “and he could sleep, if sleep it could be called by Men, resting his mind in the strange paths of elvish dreams, even as he walked open-eyed in the light of this world.” Which implies that Elves sleep like... is it sharks that sleep with half their brain at once? Whatever: than an elf "sleeps" while still remaining aware of the world around them.
Except that is manifestly not always true. The first example that pops into my head is Luthien, who slept through Beren running off to Angband; and then Amrod-or-Amras, who slept through an entire boat being set on fire around him (not an easy task!). So I would say the most likely answer is that they can enter a "waking sleep" - but they can also just... sleep, though their dreams may be different from those of mortals.
Looking at the snippet, it could actually be describing either kind of sleep anyway; he could just have been "blending living night and deep dream" and had to shift his full attention back to the waking world when the El-twins began jumping on the ceiling. It's cute, though; Dad!Maglor doesn't show up very often in fic.
Also hi Bookworm, and welcome back. :)

So many sad things happen to the sons of Fëanor. Sometimes I want to give them some time to be happy. I like Maglor and Maedhros being good dads. Madhros didn't get into this one, though I thought about trying to put him in retroactively. I'm not sure I could get it to work.

Ack! I did not mean to make a mini-Balrog of Maedhros. by

I think I will have to adopt Madhros, if he doesn't belong to someone already.

I doubt it's adopted! (nm) by

So good to see you again, it's been what, almost a year? I've missed you. I think I still have the doc for that one badfic you submitted for MST'ing somewhere. Remember Plort? I sure do, that was so much fun.
--Ls doesn’t have mych to say about the fics, sadly
-
Maybe we should see about doing that MST. (nm) by

Do you still have it? I'm doing a bit more of it now. Working either in this thread or in the doc itself would be my preference.

this riff? I can update it, and I see the doc you mean, but I think the point would more be to submit new installments, if and when you finish those.
I was initially thinking of this badfic of yours that used to be on Quotev, that I still intend to riff at Some Point.
If you want, we have group riffs at the Asylum, which you absolutely can join in.

Let's do the one that was originally on Quotev, then. Where do you think we should start with it? by

It's been so long since I wrote it that I've blocked most of it out of my memory. Someday, I want to write some actually decent fanfic about the Ringwraiths to redeem myself.

If you want, we can definitely work on it as a coriff. I'll handle all the formatting and putting it up on the Asylum (which has changed hands, by the way!), and it looks like we have enough material for... twoish riffs. Sound good?
