Good day everyone! I stumbled upon this place on TV Tropes about four months ago and since then I've been lurking about, reading missions and whatnot. Do you mind if I hang around here? I may not have that much time on my hands but this place is great!

Hi, welcome to the PPC. :D
Please start with reading this and everything it links to if you have not already.
Also, please leave the tropes on TV Tropes, because contrary to what HerrWozzeck said, we're not actually especially fond of TVTropes, Tropers, or tropes.
And feel free to hop into the IRC channel, there's a link up top of the board. :) -

What composers do you like to listen to most? -
The most known ones... by

Such as Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Vivaldi, etc. To be honest, I don't listen to music that much but when I do, it's usually classical (do I sound like the Dos Equis guy?). I also love the score to the opera "Carmen" even though I've never actually seen it.

...we need to work on getting you into some of the lesser known composers. Seriously, there are a TON of classical composers, and a lot of them escape the public eye for many reasons.
So I'll just run you through a primer of a couple of composers whose music you have to hear sometime.
So... let's get started:
Claudio Monteverdi (Italian Renaissance composer, mostly known as the guy who REALLY brought Opera into its own as its own genre):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6tJWY2Vaz4
Richard Wagner (German Romantic composer, perhaps best known for the concept of the 'leitmotif'. He wrote "Ride of the Valkries", which always pisses me off because it's far from the best thing Wagner ever wrote.):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cs_UxPMrekg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bG6p8bLdaQU
Dmitri Shostakovich (Russian 20th Century composer. Yes, that means he was part of the Soviet Union, but trust me, he had rather frequent spats with his government because of his music.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JC-pqRMasPQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjK2pPqh3cQ
And that's a few I can think of off the top of my head that you'd probably get really into. ;) -

My apologies, but classical music is amazing, and if we are going to discuss it I very much want to share and see what people like. Maybe we shall even discuss the ballet! I'll second HerrWozzeck in that Wagner has done so much that's not Ride of the Valkyries and unfortunately it doesn't get as much air time.
There is also a load of modern classical music that I am not as familiar with yet, despite my best attempts to become acquainted with it when I am back west. So many pieces, so little time...! Maybe we should start a music thread? Okay, vanishing back into the ether~ -

Completely forgot to list them in my introduction post!
As an avid gamer, I'm very familiar with the Zelda, Metroid, Portal, and Starcraft 'verses. I am also a fan of anything Orwell wrote as well as Redwall and Discworld (though it's been ages since I last read the books, so I'm slightly rusty).
Also, it seems I've scattered (nm)(nm)s all over. *Scuttles around, scooping them up* -
