The only thing you might need to know then, is that Dumbledore's past isn't in the first movie either. Other than that, they haven't made any major changes, so you'll have no problems following it.
They got it right. I cried. That's all I really have to say, if you haven't seen it yet.

Honestly, everything that was changed from the books was changed for understandable reasons-- fit the movie. The pacing felt right, the characterization was spot on, and aside from a handful of minor quibbles (the Lovegoods' house was, I felt, more dreary than it needed to be; part of what made that so poignant was what preceeded it - also, the eye-color has slightly bothered me from the first movie), it was awesome.
The end of an era, in a way. I doubt they'll ever be my favorite books or movies, and I won't say they're The Best [insert category] Ever, but there is still something... profound? about the very last movie of the series.
I went to the midnight premiere with a load of friends, and I have to say, it was a geekishly wonderful experience. The whole theatre burst into applause at certain points, everyone was dressed up (I was a Death Eater), and everyone in the whole town seemed to be talking about it. I really felt like part of a nerd fraternity.
I had some quibbles about the movie, but they're nothing compared to the way it brought people together.
For the most part they got it right. But they glossed over a couple important parts and they screwed up the final battle scene. At least, I think they did.
Also I found it very funny that they made Lily have brown eyes. Whatever happened to Harry having his mother's eyes?
Exactly what couple of important parts did you think they glossed over and in what way, and how do you think they screwed up the final battle scene?
They glossed over Fred's death: they just showed the dead body and didn't actually specify as to which twin it was. We got little to none of Dumbledore's back story. And, this wasn't so much glossing over as leaving out, they didn't have Harry fix his wand.
Also, I liked the battle scene the way it was in the book. It's a big dramatic thing in the middle of the great hall with a lot of spectators. In here there was no one watching and it was in the courtyard or something. And Harry was supposed to have a cool speech about the wand which they had him say to Hermione later on.
I mean, over all I did like it. I liked it a lot and thought they did a very good job with it. I just tend to be a bit of a canon purist and get annoyed by little things that I consider important. XP
Oh, and they forgot the house elves coming to help with the battle, which was always my favorite part in the book.

HOW IS IT POSSIBLE TO LEAVE OUT HARRY DECLINING THE ELDER WAND?!?!!?
AND NOT HAVING THE BATTLE IN FRONT OF EVERYONE?!?!?!
AND THE WEASLEYS ALL GROUPED AROUND FRED?!?!
AND KREACHER>?!?!? "Fight for brave Regulus!"
...grr. Harry fixing his wand and not taking the Elder wand was one of my favorite parts. And the battle. And...ARGH.
You should see the movie before making these kinds of comments to avoid the mistakes you just made. Capslock rage is inappropriate here, especially when your statements are incorrect.
I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie, especially because my two favorite parts of the last book are gonna be in it...
I admit I haven't seen the first part yet... but having read the books, does it really matter, since I already know what happens?
