I think their SEP fields helped a lot, but the zombies being second-fiddle certainly helped them not having to push that theory too hard. You know, I just thought about it, and in well over 30,000 words of original fic, during which the entire British island is overrun by zombies, they only had four on-screen encounters with the creatures. Three of those were less than 300 words each.

Kelok and Unger find out exactly why the Floating Hyacinth laughed before sending them to this punishment fic, when they encounter Victorian zombies, nesting flashbacks, Bad Slash, boredom, and Trans-Dimensional Snatching in the longest mission of their careers.

I think this may be your best mission yet, Miah! I especially enjoyed reading the canons after they were rescued from the Suefluence: when Lestrade and Mrs. Hudson were together; and later when they were planning to escape with Holmes, and Lestrade's behavior gave them away. I thought the characterizations in those scenes were spot-on.
I also liked that Unger is beginning to be more assertive and confident in this mission, telling jokes and acting a bit more like Kelok's partner, rather than sidekick. It's a shame they didn't get to fight any zombies on this mission, but I guess it's long enough as it is. They were boring zombies anyway. (And speaking of zombies, I can't believe Holmes discovers Watson might have been exposed to the zombie virus, and then proceeds to make out with him! If a scratch can spread the virus, surely a kiss like that would, too!)
One section that confused me was when the Agents were rescuing Lestrade and Mrs. Hudson. I had trouble understanding where the portals were leading, and who was on which side of them. But like I said, an awesome mission overall, and you're amazing for being able to sit through that monster!
I went back over the part about portaling Lestrade and Mrs. Hudson, and added in more detail. It was a bit confusing.
I am glad you think I got the canons right. The part of the mission where they should be in character always scares me the most.
That was one of the most nonsensical of all Bad Slash scenes I have ever read--from the virus spreading potential, to the seriously wounded Watson, to the just pure "What was that? of the actual scene.

But seriously, how can someone make ZOMBIES that boring?

Well done in slogging through that one. I sort of love the idea of nesting flashbacks hatching baby flashbacks.
Someone in chat gave me the idea. I said something along the lines of what Kelok said in the mission about nesting flashbacks, and whoever it was said, basically, Are they hatching babies? It might have been Makari or Gen. If whoever it was will claim it, I will give them credit, but I have forgotten exactly who it was.
I know I was there when you were talking about this one in the chat, Miah, but I'm just starting to grasp the full impact of the horror of this badfic. And I'm not talking about the zombies.

They were lucky that the badfic's zombies were boring and played second-fiddle to "tru wuv", otherwise they would've been killing zombies left and right.

Three of those were less than 300 words each.
I didn't realize that there were so few zombie encounters in that huge badfic (and those encounters were so short too), which makes me think that the author only put the zombie invasion thing in as an excuse to write about Sherlock and Watson getting it on (Hence the reason of killing off Waston's wife, because she would most likely get in the way of her husband and Sherlock's "tru wuv" if she was kept alive).
Ok, I was wrong. The fic was only 22,500. I was thinking it was 32,500. I had also forgotten the first zombie Watson encountered. In my defense, though, the thing attacked off-screen and the discussion of what it had done was only 183 words.
In other news, I did not know what pingbacks were, LJ had them automatically turned on, and it notified the author when I posted the story. She actually took it fairly well, but the story is now Friends locked.
Never fear! I have a copy. I am going to change the links on the Killed badfic to go to the copy.
Besides, that still doesn't change the fact that this was only possibly written for the bad Sherlock/Watson, and the zombies was only second place in importance to the "plot" compared to that illogical pairing.
Ouch, you'd think that when Suthors see their stories being made fun of, they would throw a fit about it or something similar. Anyway, thank you for another link to the same story.
Sherlock Holmes meets John Romero? That's just... weird.
Anyhow, nice mission. Kelok and Unger do not have it easy. And Unger... hee hee... doesn't even know where babies come from! :D
And I do love the concept of baby flashbacks.
