Aren't big cats intresting?
Aiya! I bring strange nerdery from distant fandoms!
So..yeah. I'm Mr. Eldritch, as I'm known on the 'tubes, and I'm a new member of this odd little sector of the infosphere. I'm prone to grammar-Nazism and other such lexical sins, and I'm a member of many obscure and little-inhabited fanbases (plus a number of less-obscure ones). I'm a terrible fanfiction writer (although I never actually post my abortive, unreadable failfests) and a fan of the PPC, conlangs, and am a collector of terrible internet-excresences.
And I have a strange aversion to swearing.
(And I can't speak Klingon worth a darn)
Um...hi?
*pokes*
We're not going to go insane just by looking at you or anything, are we?
Do tell about these obscure, little-inhabited fandoms. I'm a member of a few myself, and I can't help but wonder if we have any in common. I would be especially thrilled to know another PPCer who's into Farscape.
~Neshomeh
No, you're not going to go insane. It's just like my favorite word (besides Aether).
These "Obscure Fandoms" consist mainly of Bablylon 5 (best freaking TV show ever) Original Trek, and Science Fiction/ Fantasy By Authors Who I'm In The Wrong Generation To Even Have Heard Of.
(That is: Niven, Foster, Asimov, Clarke, Clement, Pohl, Lovecraft, and maybe some Anthony, to name a few)
And a handful of less-obscure ones like Discworld, LOTR, and mebbe some Inheritance Cycle.
Alas for no Farscape. However, I do know some of those others--Babylon 5 IS awesome, and one of my PPC characters, Nurse Mirrad, is a Minbari.
Haven't seen much Original Trek, sadly. Have read Asimov's Foundation series, and maybe a handful of different Authors I'm In the Wrong Generation To Have Heard Of. Mostly what I've read was in short story anthologies, though, so I don't remember most of the names.
Discworld and LotR for the win! I'm afraid you won't find much love for Paolini around here, though.
~Neshomeh
Are you by any chance familiar with the Discworld?
Anyway, hi. Have a softnose laser. Very handy when trying to dispose of Mary Sues quickly.
Welcome to the dedicated crazy! Help yourself to a venomous arthropod of your choice.
Yeah, I'm not a big fan of swearing either, in speech or in typing.
Have a intresting shaped lump of dust I found under the desk.
That should read...
Have an INTERESTING shaped lump of dust I found under the desk.
That should teach me not to type while trying to clean up my desk (at least I think there is a desk under here...)
Hi there.
Yeah don't worry about the weirdness. I'm not used to it either. >.>
The only language I know apart from English is one I made up. And even then I somehow don't know all of it! DX
Hello and welcome to the PPC message board! Have some chocolate and enjoy your stay!
And don't feel bad about not knowing Klingon; I don't know much of it myself, or any other language other than English for that matter, only bits and pieces. I don't have the memory, patience, or attention span to learn another language...
Lovely to meet a fellow Grammar Nazi. =D
Have a bag of pebbles and a Random Shiny Object.
For you I have a large bottle of bleeprin, and a nice thick hardcover copy of 'common sense and where to find it (hint: not in a sue-fic)' by Mr. Ed. (For quelling fan-person tendencies)
Welcome to the board!
Welcome to the Board! Please deposit your sanity in the provided receptacle. *indicates bucket marked "Warg Fodder"* You shan't be needing it here.
Klingon for fish is ghot'I. Now you speak Klingon.
Welcome to the PPC! Here's a glitter-proof shield from the Raven Armory! (It can't be Sueified and it can be used to block your sight of the Mary Sues, if you need to.) Oh, and here's a bottle of bleeprin as well. You're going to need it, believe me.
Aren't big cats intresting?
At last! Another who shares my distate for profanity!
On the other hand, I can speak Klingon. Some.
In any case, welcome. I give you a Capillary Towel and a hairpin with For Official PPC Business Only stamped on it. It seems no one has yet given you The Links, so in case you haven't seen these before...
Of course, you already know about The Board, as you're here, but make sure that you read all of the Constitution that's linked up top, as it's there for a reason. Our most valuable resource is the PPC Wiki, which is always growing and usually reliable. If you intend to write PPC missions of your own someday, please read the Permission article thoroughly, and make a point of chatting with us around here for the next few weeks - don't be shy; we don't bite. Also, it is expected that you will have read the Original PPC Series, which just happens to be great fun as well as important.
A word of caution - every so often, some cheeky sod will try to goad you into reading a Legendary Badfic. Don't. There's a reason we take the time to warn people off. It's not a test of machoism or anything like that - we like our fellow agents mildly insane, not flamethrower-crazy.
All that said, welcome. It's nice to meet you :)
Thanks for the Links.
Actually, I may be tempted to read a Legendary Badfic anyway. I mean, it can't be THAT bad, right? right?
(And shouldn't My Immortal be on that list?)
Trust me. And I say this coming from a non-Tolkein background. I expect I would have found it even worse if I had a Tolkein background. As it is, I was put off by the sheer squickiness of the thing. Then again, I've never dealt well with smut, and the thought of... well, for those who've read it, the Goblin King's, er, member, is enough to nauseate me right there. (I never did get any farther than that, and I was reading the MST version.)
So yeah. It is that bad. Really, it is.

We've had people literally be haunted by the damn things, and come as close to "mentally scarred" as is possible for a hobby that consists of reading and fantasy worlds. Try it if you really can't resist the temptation, but don't say we didn't warn you!
*checks* Huh. So it isn't. It IS, however, listed as one in its article.
Well, the reason for that might be the controversy over whether or not the whole thing is a troll. However, it is certainly bad, and it is certainly legendary by now, so... yeah, maybe we should take a new vote or something.
I will say that C*l*br**n is much, much worse if you're a hard-core Tolkien buff, as most of the PPC was back in the day. For other people, as my fiance will attest, it is merely incredibly stupid and might prevent you from getting a good night's sleep due to pondering said stupidity if you try reading it before bed. So... don't. >.>
~Neshomeh
Hi! Welcome! -offers sparkly rock-
Glad to see another newbie and a fellow grammar Nazi. I feel we will get along well.
Besides, I can't speak Klingon either. -grins-
