I need help with this class I'm taking. Can all of you take a few minutes real quick and answer these questions? Don't over think it, please, but I'd appreciate it a lot if you do. I need answers by one today, if you're going to. And if I need to bribe you, I'll draw you a picture if you do!
1. How aware of you of the two brands Patagonia and Nike?

I don't think it would have a wide appeal. We went out and talked to some people and for the most part they thought it would be pretty darn pointless. I know I wouldn't buy it.

I'm Italian. (Yes, before you ask I was mistaken for Spanish or Mexican already. Apparently my name exists in Spanish too, and with the same spelling)
Anyways, I'd like a drawing of Agent Nikki Cherryflower (http://ppc.wikia.com/wiki/Nikki_Cherryflower). As a badfic clone she's basically an adult Sakura Kinomoto (from Cardcaptor Sakura) with long hair, so I guess references will be abundant.
Just some quick tips, if that's not too much:
- The trenchcoat is standard PPC black (thing I used for the image didn't have it in that color), the rest is up to you.
- Be careful to take CCS Sakura as a reference, not the Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle one. Yes, there is more than one of her. Three, to be exact. (Don't ask for details - TRC is so confusing that CLAMP themselves aren't so sure what's going on in it. So, let's stay on CCS.)
While the TRC one is closer in age to Nikki, she always looked off to me.
-Hairstile is not the one on the Wiki. It's basically Sakura's (without pigtails or hair ornaments), but long. If that makes any sense.

Have you read anything by Brandon Sanderson? He's my current obsession--at the moment, I'm in the middle of the second book of his Stormlight Archive series, and good glories, it's fantastic. But that's a tangent. I ask if you've read his stuff, because there's a scene from the last book of his Mistborn trilogy which I really want to see drawn, but contains spoilers. I can always pick something else if you haven't read it, though. I have a lot of options.

But I guess, seeing as you don't currently know much about the world, the passage isn't that much of a spoiler. So here.

The she is Vin, the main character, and she's, well, awesome. Otherwise, she's short, has black hair a little longer than her shoulders and not done up so far as I know (I don't have a copy of the book with me at the moment), and is wearing a mistcloak, which is like a cloak except it's composed of long strips of fabric bound together at the shoulders. Looking it up is probably a good idea--I can't really describe it properly. If you need more detail, tell me!

Mistborn is all the awesome. Seriously. The setting is interesting and the twists made me shiver; first series in a long time whose twists actually surprise me. I've finished reading it a while ago and I'm reading The God-Emperor of Dune right now and I can't help but notice the similarities, especially with the arc words.
Because you should. I mean, it's definitely different from Mistborn, but the worldbuilding... I can't even express how intricate and involved it is. Also, all the characters are lovely-wonderful, especially Hoid, who gets a rather major role this time (which is basically a way of saying that we'll get and have been getting a lot of meta-information on the Cosmere as a whole in the series, which makes me really happy becasue I do so love theorising--the second fandom I ever got involved in was the Zelda one; I can't help it), Syl, and Kaladin. But Stormfather, the worldbuilding...
(Can you tell I love good worldbuilding yet?)
I haven't actually read Dune (though not for lack of trying on my brother's part), but yeah, I've heard about the similarities.
I actually plan on making a mistcloak, which should be fun, though it may take awhile, seeing as I don't actually know how to sew.

You should listen to your brother and read Dune. It's hands-down one of the best sci-fi books I've ever read. Similarly to Kel's saying, it's a book where there's always another secret. Stormlight is in my to-read list after the rest of the Dune sequels, The Mating Season and the other books I've bought at the annual book fair.
So, I finished Stormlight last night, and I think you sort of have to read Warbreaker first, if only to get a certain plot twist and recognize a certain character.(I was definitely not expecting that, and it was wonderful.) 'Sides, it's shorter.

1) I know that Patagonia is some kind of clothing or outerware store? Their founder or somebody might have come to my university to do a talk on sustainable business that looked really boring. I don't think I own anything by them.
Nike makes shoes, mostly athletic shoes, and possibly some other sports gear as well. I understand that their shoes can be quite expensive. I'm pretty sure it went Diety->(Shoes, Missiles), not Diety->Missiles->Shoes or Diety->Shoes->Missiles.
2) I don't think I own anything by either of these companies. My walk-down-to-the-store shoes are New Balance, I could just as easily wear cheap Nikes. I don't know what brand my boots are.
3) Why do we need this? I mean, it would be great if they could make a shoe with some kind of gel sole or something that was cheaper/comfier/whatever, but I have a distinct feeling this will be another one of those nebulous "high-performance" products that don't do anything actually useful.
4) Well that's certainly not what I was expecting. I for one would have to actually LEAVE MY HOUSE to use something like that, but I'm all for more integrated technology in day-to-day activities. It's one step closer to powered armor, so knock yourselves out!
5) I suppose, although for once I'd like to see a non-Euro/American-centered naming convention for these things. No strong feeling one way or another.
6) I could see this (assuming they can get a working prototype) having widespread usefulness among the expected fitness buffs, midlife crisis dads, and hunters, but also among various emergency-response/law-enforcement/military groups, biologists/ecologists, and wilderness-industrial people like loggers and surveyors.
7) Sorry, but this one doesn't sell it for me. It's literally just the two company logos superimposed overtop of one another. I think the Patagonia people might also complain about their contruibution being smaller than Nike's...
8) Do you know how, technically, this thing works? Is it GPS? Accelerometric? How reliable is it?
That we are both New Balance peeps that have trouble actually going outside.
I just spent $12 on New Balance SOCKS because of my mom. I guess it's okay, because the boot socks she bought for me over ten years ago are still pretty comfy.
When I do encounter the outdoors voluntarily, it's usually to track down one of my dogs or build something from the piles of electrical crap strewn throughout my garage, so a good tough pair of work boots is a must. Mine are made of some kind of ruggedized plastic instead of fabric, they're insulating, puncture-resistant and waterproof and I absolutely love them. Heck, the company that makes them might be related to Patagonia somehow...
Basically I would buy two more pairs of soft-toe Worx boots before they went out of production.
I still have my pair, debating whether to get them professionally re-soled or wait to find someone to historically recreate them.
My New Balance boots are pitiful compared to them, and the reason I went to the foot doctor. (And not wearing them led to the diagnosis I got.)
Also, I got horrified gasps for trying to buy new shoes in summer while shedding my NB boots. (To be fair, they are fuzzy.)

Yeah, powered armor would be so much cooler. I was all for having the hiking boots notify you when you had a Facebook update, but that would have involved too much extra work.
I made that logo by slapping the Patagonia logo over the Nike logo. It took about thirty seconds and was probably one of the most stupidly lazy things I've done in months, but everybody's like, "Oh that's great!" Okay.
Well, when/if you do think of something for me to draw, just let me know! It would be best if it's something I can get a reference for, but I can also draw without one - it just won't be as good.

This helped me out a lot. Patagonia is a county somewhere, but it's also a sporting goods company that sell high-quality and sustainable products, primarily jackets and pants.
To be quite flat and honest with you, I think this product is stupid. I wouldn't buy it, and I definitely agree with you on the smartphone count.
