I have wonderful news! On this day, precisely one year ago (I think I'm off by an hour or so, but I was in a different time zone then), I made my introductory post on the Board! (presented here for proof and possible hilarity). That's right, folks--I've been a Boarder for one year! Can you believe it? I sure can't. It feels like it's only been one month, or three, or seven...but, wow, I've been here for twelve. Let's throw a party, yeah? I feel like throwing a party. (Anyone else's Board anniversary coming up? I know there were a lot of newbies not too long after I joined...anyone else still here? If so, let's make it a joint party!)
One full year. Wow. Thank you so much, everyone; you've made it an amazing year, and a very interesting and...what's the word, fulfilling? We'll go with that. A very fulfilling year. *goes into speech mode* I've made friends, learned more about writing, and been astonished and excited by how much the PPC is still thriving...yeah, it's been a great year :) Thanks for being part of it! (1) By confetti I do mean both the almond type and the paper type.

Now, on another note...I'm trying to name a character. Well, actually, I'm trying to translate one of her names from Quenya to Sindarin. The problem? The name I'm trying to translate is Laurëandil ("golden lover/friend"). It's an epessë given to her by her husband (she's Noldorin, by the way. I'm not yet sure about her husband). I want a Sindarin equivalent (although I doubt it'll ever really be used), but...Sindarin doesn't technically have the -(n)dil ending, which leaves me with "Glor__???" as a translation. According to Merin Essi Ar Quentili (aka realelvish.net), however, Exilic Sindarin would often just take things like the endings -(n)dil and -(n)dur and place them, post-'Sindarinization', at the ends of names (see <a href="http://www.realelvish.net/exilicnames.php">here for reference). As my character is a Noldorin Elf from the First Age, that then leaves me with the option of using "Glor (glaur) + -(n)dil"...but how does one mesh that? Glorandil? Glorendil? Glorndil? ...Glordil?
Basically, could someone with a grasp of Elvish naming rules help me figure out exactly how that works? I'm now feeling like Glordil may be the most correct option...but is it? Help.
My apologies to anyone uninterested in Elvish names who just read through that. Here, have a cookie as reparation. To anyone who was interested in that, wonderful! Have a cookie as well. In fact, here, I'm putting out a basket of cookies. Everyone take one (or several; it refills). Enjoy!
And I think that's all. Happy Anniversary to everyone to whom that applies, and thanks for listening! (and please help...)
