is as an AU of the book canon. A very, very different AU. They're both really good in their own rights. Kind of like how I've forced myself to see the Percy Jackson movies as an AU of the books even though I hated the movies. No I don't pretend they don't exist

Or movie!Hiccup is a descendant of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III; they never state his full name probably because it's too silly for the movie canon. It would certainly be interesting to see someone explore how the friendly relationship we saw between dragons and Vikings in the book turned into the war we see in the movies... brb, gonna go scribble some ideas down.

The second movie had a bit of a plot-point involving a scar on Hiccup's chin that most definitely wasn't there in the first movie, even though he supposedly had it all his life. So it was pretty jarring in that respect. At least, it was to me. Mom says I'm being too anal about it.

Oops, sorry, I got a bit off-topic there.

Uh, anyway, I still like both versions of HTTYD, but I'm pretty sad that the majority of people only know the movie version. It's not nearly as silly as the books, which is where I thought the movie kind of failed. *sigh*

(Though I had to laugh when I noticed movie!Hiccup was left-handed. It was a very subtle nod to his book persona.)
