Hello! I am dragon master7, know as rider ranger47 on the PPC wiki. Thought I do not intend to request permission anytime soon,I do run a How to Train Your Dragon fanfiction wiki and often report badfics as part of my administrative duties. I also read the Rangers Apprentice series, the Brotherband Chronicles, the Maze Runner series, and some Harry Potter.

HTTYD- Books, movies, or both? Oh, and *poke* by

I've read the books (though more may have come out) and seen the first movie, but kinda got turned off of said movie by the complete canon-change.
Still, I got through it by headcanoning that the movie-Hiccup wasn't the Third, but Hiccup the First. (I know, it probably calls him "the Third" in the movie. Let me hold onto my beloved book-canon. ;_;)
Still, I'll probably watch subsequent movies eventually.

You should definitely watch the movies, and I should probably read the books. I had no idea he was Hiccup the first in the books.

What I think TheShyIon was meaning was that to differentiate between the two completely different canon's he calls the Hiccup of the moves 'the first' and the Hiccup of the books 'the third'
IMO the books are cool, and really well written and the movie is a let down in that regard, but if they'd released the movie as its own thing it'd of still been just as awesome (or maybe saying based on HTTYD, not calling it such) -

is as an AU of the book canon. A very, very different AU. They're both really good in their own rights. Kind of like how I've forced myself to see the Percy Jackson movies as an AU of the books even though I hated the movies.
No I don't pretend they don't exist
Or movie!Hiccup is a descendant of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III; they never state his full name probably because it's too silly for the movie canon. It would certainly be interesting to see someone explore how the friendly relationship we saw between dragons and Vikings in the book turned into the war we see in the movies... brb, gonna go scribble some ideas down.
The second movie had a bit of a plot-point involving a scar on Hiccup's chin that most definitely wasn't there in the first movie, even though he supposedly had it all his life. So it was pretty jarring in that respect. At least, it was to me. Mom says I'm being too anal about it.
Oops, sorry, I got a bit off-topic there.
Uh, anyway, I still like both versions of HTTYD, but I'm pretty sad that the majority of people only know the movie version. It's not nearly as silly as the books, which is where I thought the movie kind of failed. *sigh*
(Though I had to laugh when I noticed movie!Hiccup was left-handed. It was a very subtle nod to his book persona.) -
The movie *was* pretty good, but the rewriting of canon... by

Your idea is cool, too, but I still like my "this is the first one" headcanon better. And hey, maybe book!Toothless really *does* have a royal bloodline.
Though probably not to any "Toothless Daydreams." ;) -

I mean, come on! Nee-a crappa in a de hoose? You can't get much funnier than that!
I probably butchered that so much
I think what really created the difference between Book!Canon and Movie!Canon is that the producers or whoever decided drama would sell better than wacky hijinks.
Also, where is my Toothless Daydream? And why does that sound like a cocktail or something? -

They're really good! Basically, the movie reversed the relationship both of dragons/Vikings and Hiccup/Toothless. (Not a slash pairing. Just in case.)
In book, Toothless was ridiculously common and kinda saved Hiccup's hide.
In book, Vikings train dragons and treat them like dogs.
No spoilers on the Red Death, however. -

(So that's who's been making those edits!) Nice to meet you! Have some Chocolate Frogs and a mostly-historically-accurate Viking helmet!
Also, don't worry about getting Permission just yet. We don't generally let people who are too new have it. I'm sure many of us have asked you this already, but have you read the Original Series yet? If not, you should do so; it's fun, it's informative, and a lot of our longest-running jokes come from it. :)
Enjoy your stay! -

Whenever I read HP again, I’m re-impressed for different reasons. There’s always something I didn’t realize on first (or second or third) read. Which reminds me: I planned to do some analyzing of HBP this winter, and I still didn’t begin. It’s time to go there again.

Even now, there's always something to find.
Fun fact, I borrowed my brother's copy of GoF at school the other day because I'd left mine at home and was quite stumped when my memory seemed to be completely reversed: in his copy, during the Priori Incantatem scene, James came out of the wand before Lily. I could have sworn it was the other way around in my copy, and when I got back home, I checked and sure enough, it was.
Turns out Rowling made an oopsie in regards to the reversed order of deaths. So there was a reprinting.
I was so ridiculously pleased to have found a new bit of writing, even if it was just a retcon.
The same thing happened in regards to the first book: in my copy, a witch outside the apothecary in Diagon Alley is complaining about dragon liver being seventeen sickles an ounce, whereas in my brother's copy, it's sixteen. That one was because the original is pretty much like someone saying a candy bar costs a hundred cents.
But, um, I got a little OT. Reprintings aren't quite the same. So lemme get back to the subject:
I feel so incredibly derpy to not have noticed it until maybe my seventh time reading OotP (post-DH; it was probably like my twentieth time total. I'm way too obsessed.), but there's a mention of Aunt Petunia saying she heard 'that awful boy' telling Lily about dementors years ago. And then it hit me that she meant Snape, not James like Harry had assumed. Major OH MY ROWLING moment for me. I had to put the book down to laugh/cry. -

You're actually allowed to deal with badfics as an admin? As a former admin of a Power Rangers fanfic wiki I am jealous. What brings you to the PPC?
You'll probably be getting a lot of newbie gifts soon, so here's a bottomless bag to put them all in. Don't worry, it has lots of pockets so you shouldn't lose anything inside. -

For a minute I had hope that there was an actual fanfic wiki that filters its content for quality. I gave in to temptation and sporked one of the so-bad-I'm-not-sure-it's-not-a-trollfic stories on my own wiki. The author was less than thrilled, even though she (?) only found out when I apologized for it.

That's the problem I ran into. SPaG's objective--either you do it right or you do it wrong--and you could get rid of pages that go unfinished for months, but how would you define a fic as "bad" in a way that wouldn't cause a thousand arguments?

Yeah, that is going to be a problem. I suppose all fics could be reviewed and rated before posting would be allowed, but that would only give my opinion on it. After all, their klink is not my klink.

A kink tends to be about the stranger sorts of things people do in bed, and occasionally out of bed.
A klink is a metal noise,
One (nm) means no message in the message box,
And two mean someone's got some Bleep-candy. -
