As one person on Tumblr put it:

"Dudes. People. This is still messed up if they’re messing with us. Like, really messed up.

"We’re a pretty loyal fanbase. We’ve stuck with her through character assassinations in the movies, through the Epilogue that we seem to be pretty well divided on, through the weird Pottermore updates and post-Potter interviews (we all remember the surprisingly pro-Harmony interview). There’s no reason why we should be punished this harshly.

"I don’t know if this is just the people I know, but spoilers are a no-go in the fandom. I remember how utterly pissed off people were about those posted pages for the last book. I wouldn’t have looked at the spoilers if I hadn’t heard from a good friend about how much the play sucked, and I’m sure there are a lot of other fans with me on that.

"The script doesn’t come out for over a month. That is a freaking long time to prank someone. It wouldn’t be nearly as messed up if it was a week or something, but a month is a long time. (Let’s be real; it’s almost two months.)

"I know people who are selling their tickets because of this. If it turns out to be a prank, think about how angry and betrayed you’d feel if you’d sold your tickets. And why? Because we’re supposed to believe that they’re all lying to us? What the hell?

"I’ve had the play pre-ordered for a while, which I’m sure is the same for a lot of hardcore fans, but that doesn’t mean that everyone is as obsessive. I’d be pretty annoyed if I didn’t buy the book because of the spoilers and it turned out the be fake.

"As much as I hate the spoilers and the plot as we’ve seen it, I think I’d feel worse if it turns out to be a massive joke."

I really, really hope it turns out to be a massive joke, but s/he does make some pretty good points. :( In the meantime, I'll just keep pinching myself and waiting to wake up from this nightmare where the eighth Potter "book" sounds like My Immortal 2.
