The one closest to my answers was Elder wood and unicorn hair, 10 inches, hard. Hoo boy, I'm in for a struggle. Elder wood is the hardest to master, and they think it's unlucky, too. Mine in particular (and yours truly?) is extra-stubborn thanks to that "hard" designation. But on the bright side, the unicorn hair means it'll be more stable and hard for the Dark Arts to work. :)

Well, you can find out, even if you're not on Pottermore. Here's how:

1. Go here to read through the wand test. Record your answers to each of the seven questions.

2. Use this spreadsheet to find your wand wood, core, length, and flexibility. Note that there are tabs for each aspect at the bottom of the form—you don't have to try to use the comprehensive sheet.

I ended up with hazel, dragon heartstring, 12 inches, hard. Fair enough, I guess.

And then I did my agents, too, because of course I did:

Nume - Ebony, phoenix feather, 14-1/2 inches, unyielding.

Ilraen - Rowan, unicorn hair, 10-3/4 inches, unbending.

Derik - Laurel, unicorn hair, 13-1/2 inches, supple.

Gall - Sycamore, dragon heartstring, 9-3/4 inches, brittle.

Jenni - Beech, unicorn hair, 12-1/4 inches, pliant. (Trivia: back in my RPing heyday, I chose rowan wood and unicorn hair for Jenni's wand. It's still a good choice, but I like beech, too. My original run through the test for Jenni gave ash, which I don't like much [though rowan is a variety of ash, so there's that], so I cheated a bit to come up with beech. I also considered apple, but beech is the more honest of the two.)

Henry - Hazel, phoenix feather, 13-3/4 inches, hard. (Dang, that's gonna be a temperamental wand. Just like its owner. Granted, he's not eligible to get one for a few years yet...)

Fear: Darkness (metaphorical darkness, i.e. darkness of the mind, in this case)
Artifact: Bound Scroll

Wand: Ebony, phoenix feather, 14.5", unyielding.

So. Ebony owners are "frequently non-conformist, highly individual or comfortable with the status of outsider" and also those who have a strong sense of purpose, from which they are not easily swayed. It's a good thing that fits Nume to a T, because with a phoenix feather core and unyielding quality, this wand is not an easy one to master. Like its owner, it is aloof and difficult to please, but once won over, it will readily go into battle with you and may surprise you with its resourcefulness.

Ilraen

Height: Average (in human form, anyway)
Eyes: Green
Birthday: Even (I used the publication date of "Introducing Ilraen" as my reference for this)
Trait: Determination (alas, loyalty is not an option)
Path: Sea (also alas, an open field is not an option)
Fear: Heights (based on that one incident with stairs, though I'm pretty sure he got over it. Could also be read as not wanting to fall into the trap of Andalite arrogance.)

Wand: Rowan, unicorn hair, 10.75", unbending.

Rowan-wood wands have a reputation for being protective, especially good at defensive magic, and best suited to owners who are both clear-headed and pure-hearted. These qualities are echoed in this wand's unicorn-hair core, which make it a particularly loyal and reliable partner. Its unbending quality means you will never in a million years convince it to stray to evil purposes.

It's the perfect wand for a guy who will stick by his friends through thick and thin and always be there to get their backs in a crisis, even if it seems like he's out for the count. The wand's length, being the shortest in the Average column, may indicate that he still has some maturing to do, but his relative innocence and inexperience shouldn't fool anyone—as Phobos pointed out to me recently, he's got more backbone than just about anybody else in HQ. ^_~

Laurel-wood wands demand honor and an active sense of purpose in their owners, and it is these very qualities that keep Derik going at all. Its supple quality and unicorn hair core make this wand a little more forgiving and a little more loyal than it might be otherwise, which is good, because Derik needs a little tolerance on his bad days. Seeing potential thieves get struck by lightning can't hurt, either.

Gall

Height: Short
Eyes: Blue
Birthday: Odd (ref. the publication date of "The Girl and Her Dragon")
Trait: Originality (because "being awesome and also better than you" is not an option)
Path: Castle (probably to storm it and drink their mead; I originally picked the sea, because Viking, but that didn't really work)
Fear: Isolation (because what's the point of being awesome if no one's around to see it?)

Wand: Sycamore, dragon heartstring, 9.75" (nine and three quarters, lol), brittle.

This is a fun one—more fun than elm, which she got with the sea path and would probably never be able to use what with its native dignity and sophistication. Sycamore, on the other hand, is as easily bored as Gall and would similarly thrive in the stimulating, adventurous life of an agent. This is a thrill-seeker's wand, especially with dragon heartstring as the core. It's powerful, showy, and practically demands to do something, anything, as long as it's not dull. Unfortunately, as if it weren't dangerous enough already, its brittle quality makes it even more prone to accident and error, and when it goes awry, it'll probably do so with a bang.

Jenni

Height: Average
Eyes: Green
Birthday: Odd (I've always given her birthday as the first day of spring, but I've never bothered fixing a date to it)
Trait: Optimism (actually makes more sense than kindness, really, considering how much of a nuisance she can make herself)

Wand: Beech, unicorn hair, 12.25", pliant.

If a younger Jenni was a match for a straightforwardly, perhaps simplistically protective rowan wand, it seems as though she's come into her maturity these days. At twelve and a quarter inches, this wand is the second-longest in the Average column, and beech-wood wands in general look for wisdom and subtlety in their owners. This is a wand for someone who's been around the block a few times and knows that you can't just charge in and fix everything, no matter how much you might want to; when it comes to helping others, sometimes less is more. With a unicorn hair core, this is not a showy wand, but it is a reliable one. Its pliant quality says it's ready to try anything once, as long as it's not being asked to perform out of ignorance or evil.

As I said in my original post, this is one temperamental wand, especially in the hands of a kid who's not quite sure of who the heck he even is yet. Hazel is sensitive to its owner's emotional state, and Henry is a smart, willful kid with a bit of a temper on him. This wand's phoenix core means it, too, has a mind of its own, and its hard quality makes it especially difficult to change its mind. Henry's going to have to work hard at mastering himself before he gets much use out of his wand, but when he does, the world had better watch out, because chances are something amazing is going to come of it.

Like Henry's wand, mine requires me to be self-aware and maintain control of my emotions if I'm going to accomplish anything. (Since I struggle with depression and anxiety—not to a massive degree, but enough that I often struggle to motivate myself—this is a rather apt metaphor for my life.) With a dragon heartstring core, it's strongly bonded to me and, when I can get it to work, it is quite powerful. Like me, though, it can sometimes get hung up on its own ideas and may need serious persuasion to try something new. At least, if it does discharge unexpectedly, it's not likely to be dangerous; less explosive, more scattered; spells may just fizzle out. But I guess I'll never go thirsty. {; P

The most interesting part of this is c, d, and e, who have the most un-alike beech wands possible. Beech is the wood for those 'wise beyond their years', and doesn't work for narrow-minded people, but apart from that, they are very different. c (unbending, unicorn hair) is reliable and steadfast, but also stubborn - they have their opinion (backed up by their wisdom, of course), and they're sticking to it. d (solid, phoenix feather) is almost flighty by comparison, but with a hard centre: they may take a while to get going, but once they pick a cause, they'll see it to the end. e (reasonably supple, dragon heartstring) is flamboyant and energetic, but (according to their friends) willing to learn from experience or (according to their enemies) uncommitted and wishy-washy.

So how good is the wand-quiz at telling horoscopes? Do those match the people they're assigned to?

a) 12 3/4'' supple & roped laurel w/ dragon heartstring

A) is actually for myself! Slash Agent July. So, going by the thing, laurel wands don't tolerate laziness and are said to not be able to perform dishonorable acts. Dragon heartstring cores tend to learn quickly, and can be temperamental and and capable of flamboyant spells- which goes along with length tending to indicate big personalities and flamboyant styles.

Anyone else think that sounds off the mark for oneself?

b) 9 3/4'' slightly springy & carved cypress w/ phoenix feather

As for b), it's for Agent JF, who does have some growing to do (still) and forever lacking in maturity and common sense. Phoenix feather cores tend to take initiative and have a great range, and cypress wands go to the bold. And well. She does fit the mark.

c) 14 1/2'' unbending & ribbed beech w/ unicorn hair

c) is actually for Library! She's certainly fairly mature acting, and tends to react with the most sense among any given group of agents for the most part, and is definitely one to stand her ground. There's a reason that she brooks no argument from July, or from anyone else. She's even fairly good at getting her way.

d) 12 1/4'' solid & roped beech w/ phoenix feather

d) is for Colt, who can be flighty seeming at times- which is more of an act than it really is- but does definitely stick with things. As for wise beyond their years, well, he's a half elf, and prior to joining the PPC lived among elves, so that gives him an interesting perspective and one he doesn't quite notice all the time- since by that measure he's more immature, since half human, when he's actually behaving he's one of the more responsible ones in BM.

e) 14'' reasonably supple & carved beech w/ dragon heartstring

The 'flamboyant and energetic' wand belongs to Gerry, in this case, who's a bit of an odd duck for the BM lot since she only started doing that because she couldn't continue with being an assassin any longer. One of these days I really have to write a mission or two for her from before she got forced out. At first glance it might seem like the wands Colt and Gerry have might be better suited to the other, but there's a reason I generally keep them paired up in stories and RPs like I do; they tend to keep each other going.

f) 11 1/4'' reasonably supple & carved sycamore w/ unicorn hair

As for f), that goes to Denny; sycamores are for new experience and adventure, pretty much, and unicorn hair cores also make for pretty faithful wands. He's definitely in the PPC for new experiences and is kind of doing an escapist thing, even if he's not entirely aware of it. :)

Overall, I definitely find it interesting how well the matches work, for the most part.

That, honestly, sounds like exactly the wand I'd expect for someone in the military. Well, the old-school, shows-up-in-fiction military, a la knights. Disciplined, strong sense of honour, adaptive, but with a tendency for flamboyance?

Unfortunately, this assumes that I'm tall and have brown eyes (I'm actually short and have blue-gray eyes).

Now, for meaning: Acacia is a 'tricky' type of wood that often only works for its owner and withhold their best effects from all but the most gifted. Yay, I'm gifted! The Phoenix Feather is capable of the greatest range of magic, and show the most initiative, often acting of their own accord. Both of these materials are apparently rather picky about which wizard owns them, and rare. Way to make me feel special, J.K.

Now, as for potential agents' wands:

Farsight: Fir, Dragon core, 12 1/2 inches, rigid

Jana: Black Walnut, Phoenix Feather, 14 1/2 inches, Hard

Min Ra: Yew, Phoenix Feather, 11 inches, Unbending

Having discovered the tabs at the bottom, here are alterations to my and my potential agents' wands:

My wood is actually Rowan, not Acacia, and it's supposed to be 10 inches long, and it's 'surprisingly swishy', not 'quite bendy' (not sure if there's all that much difference, but oh well).

Farsight's wand should be 12 3/4ths inches, and it should be supple.

Jana's wand is supposed to be 14 1/4 inches long, and her core should have been Unicorn Hair, and it should be Unyielding. The wood it's supposed to be made of is Elder, which I don't think she'd like, as she believes that a special destiny is a Bad Thing (personally, I think Black Walnut more suits her personality, but Elder was the result I got).

Min Ra's want should be 12 1/4 inches long, and the wood is supposed to be Sycamore. The wand should be 'reasonably supple'.

Effie Raptor's wand would actually be made of Ebony, and her core a Phoenix Feather. It should be 14 1/2 inches long.

Natalie's wand: Chestnut with unicorn core, 10 ¾ inches, unyielding

Apparently unyielding and unbending mean two different things. *shrugs* But anyway, my wand wood means I'm not easily fooled, it would be better not to cross me, and cedar works best with those who have "personality and perception." It's also works well for defensive spells. Yay!

Za'kiir's wand wood is fantastic for defensive charms, making such spells especially strong and difficult to break, and best placed "with the clear headed and pure-hearted, but this reputation for virtue ought not to fool anyone - these wands are the equal of any, often the better, and frequently out-perform others in duels."

Natalie's wand wood is the type that takes personality from the owner, and it especially likes "witches and wizards who are skilled tamers of magical beasts, those who possess great gifts in Herbology, and those who are natural fliers." The combination of unicorn core with this wood is "for those concerned with all manner of justice." That sure fits her. :)

The common core between these three wands, the unicorn core, is the core least subject to error, is highly faithful to their first owner, and is the least able to perform Dark Magic.

Black walnut, unicorn hair, 10 3/4", unyielding.

Not bad.

As for a few of my characters:

Gaspard - Alder, unicorn hair, 10 3/4", swishy.

A wand suited for advanced spellwork when paired with an affable and discreet owner. Fits him like a glove.

Tacitus - Cedar, unicorn hair, 12 1/4", reasonably supple.

He could be a good match for this wand-- if only he wasn't such a horrible person.

Harris - Rowan, unicorn hair, 11 1/2", solid.

A solidly defensive wand for an equally indestructible man.

The Guardsman - Larch, dragon heartstring, 13", supple.

A soldier's wand: powerful, resilient, and always with an extra trick up its sleeve.

Naya - Elm, dragon heartstring, 13 1/2", quite bendy.

A stable, elegant wand for the technically proficient user. A true precision tool.

Well, Vania probably should have had a longer wand than the two versions of me; she's shorter, but she has a much stronger personality. Giving me a supple wand isn't quite spot-on, either, since I keep a very rigid adherence to daily schedules and routines and such. The agents definitely would need more adaptability than I do. At least Vania got a pretty color.

Nothing to say about the wood types because plants are boring and I don't care about them. Didn't bother with my cafeteria staff because I can't imagine any situation in which they wind up with one.

—doctorlit isn't very fond of fractions, either, and will stick with decimal wand length.

My yew: Oh, Gan. Tell me this isn't Volde—Gan damn it, this is Voldemort's wand. WTF. Well, I'm glad to read that it's not limited to villainous people, but seriously. Do Not Want, Do Not Want, Do Not Want. I'm certainly unusual, but "never chooses either a mediocre or a timid owner."? I think it missed this time.

Doc's elder: Ugh. I thought this was the Elder Wand for a second. Stupid wiki needs to make that more explicit. Anyway, uh. Doc would lose this wand pretty quickly, to any Potterverse Sue. Or Potterverse agent. Or Potterverse cheesecake, for that matter. He's too much like me, not enough will power.

Vania's cedar: I don't know that this quite matches Vania. I guess there's a streak of loyalty to her, but hard-to-fool? Perceptive? Hm.

—doctorlit would rather just feed his wand to the petting zoo's axis deer, but doesn't know if they're susceptible to unicorn diseases.

Your wand may not come from the same tree as Voldemort's. Wand trees may be rare, and yew among the rarest, but you can only harvest so many branches without killing the tree, and I just bet Ollivander believes in sustainable harvesting. I bet he harvests as widely as possible so as to reduce the burden on any one tree. {= )

Wandlore's a barely explored part of the Potterverse, and having a fic centred around Ollivander pottering about the place being a one-wizard Gardener's Question Time and experimenting with different wood types would be amazing. What would his response to Dutch Elm disease in the '70s be? Or to ash dieback and sudden oak death from a few years back? The latter in particular would be an interesting thing to consider, since English oaks are the most common trees in the UK and I'm being very, very dull right now and should stop immediately. =]

The one closest to my answers was Elder wood and unicorn hair, 10 inches, hard. Hoo boy, I'm in for a struggle. Elder wood is the hardest to master, and they think it's unlucky, too. Mine in particular (and yours truly?) is extra-stubborn thanks to that "hard" designation. But on the bright side, the unicorn hair means it'll be more stable and hard for the Dark Arts to work. :)

That's... basically going to be a wand that doesn't want to do anything, but is insanely powerful when it can be persuaded. Fir wands 'demand staying power and strength of purpose in their true owners', while phoenix feather wands 'are the pickiest of all the cores in choosing the most suitable owner, and allegiance is often hard-won'. It's even unyielding, so it really won't play nice!

Worryingly, the core/wood/length combo indicates powerful magic with fine control and a fondness for transfiguration... and a tendency to act by itself occasionally. Yeeeeeeah, you're all going to be turned into cats by the time I get this thing under control. :-/

Dafydd Illian: 13 1/4'' rigid elm with phoenix feather

Which means Pureblood! Oh, no, wait, that's a myth. ^^ Er, dignity, elegance, and general power. (Also, 'even or odd birthday'? He picked at random.) This is pretty apt, I think.

Selene Windflower: 13'' reasonably supple black walnut w/ phoenix feather

This wand is totally useless. ^~ It 'loses power dramatically if its possessor practises any form of self-deception'. Yeah, I don't think Selene is self-honest enough to learn magic.

Kaitlyn Jackson: 10 1/2'' solid apple w/ unicorn hair.

This, again, is perfect. Apple goes to charming idealists with a head for communication, while the unicorn makes her extra-nice and means it won't be too powerful, but will do what it needs to. A hobbit wand indeed.

Agent Huinesoron: 14 1/2'' hard pearwood w/ unicorn hair

This turns out to be virtually identical to Kaitlyn's - pear is another 'nice' wood, 'which give of their best in the hands of the warm-hearted, the generous and the wise.' Well... he's trying. I think Kaitlyn bought it for him as a reward for his attempts to become a nicer person.

... I think this deserves a ficlet, actually.

"... what's this?"

Kaitlyn shrugged, still holding out the box. "Open it and see."

Huinesoron took the gift gingerly. The polished wooden box was long and narrow, with gold trim around the seam. The clasp was worked into a delicate golden flower. The elf passed it from one hand to the other thoughtfully, feeling how light it was.

Kaitlyn was practically bouncing with impatience. "Come on, open it!"

Huinesoron smiled slightly - then remembered to make the smile visible ('Hiding your emotions just makes you look even more self-centred than you really are' had been Kaitlyn's caustic comment). He unclasped the case and flipped the lid up.

Inside, lying on dark grey velvet, was... "It's a stick."

Kaitlyn folded her arms and glowered.

Huinesoron tried again. "Er... it's a nice stick." He lifted it out, tucking the case under his arm. The wood was a warm golden colour, and one end was carved into a sort of hilt, with a tracery of geometric patterns. He tapped it against his palm: there was no give in it, though it did sound slightly hollow. "Er... thank you?"

Kaitlyn's glare intensified, then she abruptly looked uncertain. "You really have no idea what it is?"

"No..." Huinesoron examined the stick, turning it over. "Is it an archaeological find, maybe?"

"Ugh!" Kaitlyn fished in a pocket and pulled out a similar stick, shorter and lighter in colour, with a simpler hilt. "Observe," she said, flourishing the stick. "Lumos!"

Huinesoron eyed the suddenly-glowing stick warily. "It's... a torch?"

"It's a wand!" Kaitlyn only barely restrained herself from throwing her stick onto the floor. "You know, like in Harry Potter? I got you a custom Muggle-use wand, all right?"

"Er... thank you!" Huinesoron tried out another smile. "So what does it... do?"

"Lots of stuff." Kaitlyn grabbed his arm and tried to drag him off down the corridor. "Practically any spell from Harry Potter that you can think of."

"That isn't a lot," Huinesoron pointed out. "By which I mean, it's sort of none."

"That's what the training is for." Kaitlyn stopped pulling and frowned up at him. "Seriously, could you be a little easier to drag? This is kind of embarassing."

I ended up with a hazel wand with unicorn hair core, 10 3/4 inches, unyielding.

So, from what I gather, my wand is not flashy, but is dependable (so long as I keep an even head), sympathetic and steadfastly loyal. I don't think I would have it any other way. *hugs his little dowsing wand*

For Meg - Cypress and phoenix feather, 13 inches, unyielding. So, stubborn and temperamental with a penchant for doing the right thing.

For Michelle - Hawthorn and unicorn hair, 9 3/4 inches, quite flexible. So both healing and deadly, faithful and changeable, just a bit fragile. Oh boy.

For me - Hawthorn and phoenix feather, 13 inches, hard. Okay, fair enough.

Good for: Actually, this is a wanderer's wand, well-suited to someone like Wobbles who enjoys going anywhere that isn't home.

Notary:-
Hazel, Dragon Heartstring, 13", Unyielding
Good for: People who have control over their emotions and learn 4 dayz. So, the Notary in a nutshell. However, since hazel wands are responsive to the user's emotional state, er... this could get explodey.

Algie:-
English Oak (and no, I didn't fudge it), Unicorn Hair, 11", Quite flexible
Good for: ... Those with an affinity for the magic of the natural world. Again, I swear up, down, and sideways that I didn't fudge the result. A fitting wand for a loyal servant of the Raven King.

Commander McCandless:-
Black Walnut, Dragon Heartstring, 12.75", Unbending
Good for: Charms and similar, but only with an owner who is sincere and self-aware. So, that's the Commander. You spend any time in XCOM, you have to be self-aware, otherwise you are alien plasma bolt-aware.

Does not have opposable thumbs.

... looking at the Wand Collection tab? 'Cause it only does show two options for Yew for some reason, but there are actually three ways to get it, which you can see in the Woods (Hazel-Yew) tab or by finding your answers in the All Woods tab. You'll find the rest of your answers turn up the correct results by looking at the Cores, Lengths, and Flexibilities tabs, respectively.
