...and wrapped her fingers around Naya's. "You can't expect me not to try to save you," she pointed out, as mildly as she could manage. "And anyway, I've got the respiratory bypass. I'm a bit harder to drown." She swallowed, clutching Naya's hand, and added, "Not to mention, I can regenerate. You can't. I'd rather change again than lose you." She stopped talking, looking down.
She should probably say something to Emiranlanoamar, something to draw the focus away from what she had just admitted--but she couldn't bring herself to. She couldn't lose Naya. She didn't think he wanted to lose her either, of course, but she wasn't prepared to cheapen that need, to make it seem less than it was. Not now. Not when she had nearly watched Naya drown mere minutes before.
She couldn't do that, so she stayed where she was and she held Naya's hand and tried not to pull her away from Emiranlanoamar so she could hug the quarian instead, because that would be rude and inconsiderate...but it was a close battle.
