So the way of tipping I know (from my parents, who are Northern English) is to just leave the money on the table unless the restaurant either has a tip pot (Nando's, and I think some pubs) or allows tipping as part of the bill (some restaurants). I can't think of a time when the staff would be /able/ to say no, except when tipping takeaway delivery people - and they just say thanks. :)

What I'm trying to ask is, what was your tipping method, since it's clearly quite different?
