I don't even remember the author explaining how the ship malfunctioned. I suspect the all consuming power of teh gay trying to set up a convenient sex scene by making him crash on the LOTR planet

How'd he end up that deep in the planetary gravity well when he came out of hyperspace? Why was the fleet charting a course so close to a star system anyway? Why was he flying his interceptor instead of riding in one of the warships he was presumably flying with?
Actually, that's several questions.
