Really, I know I've mentioned this in every forum I have at my disposal to contact you. This is because I cannot get over this. They're vampires. So they sparkle in sunlight. On behalf on all Transylvania I am headdesking.
The Vampire King of Narnia
A Narnia/Twilight/The O.C crossover, in which Peter Pevensie is turned into a vampire by a Mary-Sue vampire named Summer. Terrible, terrible writing.

By the way, as there's been so much debate recently over how good or terrible Twilight actually is, I now have the book and will be putting up a review once I'm finished. I want to judge it fairly. Anyway, it'll be on my LJ, but if anyone's interested, I can post it (or a link to it) here. Should I?

You make a good point about the Sue and Stu labels being too widely applied. It doesn't sound like the Twilight books are ones that I'll ever really enjoy, though. I much prefer my romance to be secondary to another plot.
Interestingly enough, I noticed that that other fic by the same author, the Hermione/Eragon one, actually shows vestiges of what would be excellent characterization if it weren't for the fact that the character in question is Hermione. She sounds exactly like your average American teenager, her parents sound like parents, etc. The dad goes over the top, but that's not unheard of in real life. It's like she just took her own experiences and applied Hermione's name and appearance. Also, she clearly uses a spellchecker. She just doesn't know which words she actually wants. Very interesting.
I'm still going to PPC the story at some point, though. The spelling errors are just too funny to pass up.

And no, I'm quite sure that most people wouldn't enjoy the Twilight books. Honestly, I'm not even sure why I like it, however mildly.

... er, vampire stories, that is. Really, from a biological perspective I like the idea that sunlight doesn't burn them, because that's a REALLY stupid evolutional adaptation to have, and historically I therefore see a need for there to be some other reason why they can't go out into sunlight, for which some sort of obviously inhuman characteristic makes sense... but SPARKLES?
Really, we could've dumped them in a barrel of glitter. Pfft.
Pads? I've an idea. let's figure out some better reason for inhuman immortal creatures (and we can just do away with the word "vampire", if your Transylvanian headdesking is too painful) to have to stay out of sunlight. Some other obvious trait other than SPARKLES. And Trojie can help with the biology.

The idea that vampires could evolve is definitely right up her alley. (We're talking about the woman that worked out that, cladistically speaking, unicorns are goats, remember.) I think the sunlight thing's in there because notions of vampires draw rather more heavily on supernatural methods of thinking than evolutionary and scientific ones. You might as well question the possible evolutionary benefits to having your innards on fire.
But yes, as soon as Trojie's back from her convention, let's sit down and work this one out properly.
The book made an attempt to explain their venom and such, though there were big logica gaps; I'll get us the raw material to work from. :)

Yes. Discussions of vampire biology shall commence as soon as, uh, uni coursework has sodded off.
... this means I only get to be online late at my night or for one brief ten minute period in the morning, which sadly leaves no time for rambling.
Not quite on the subject of vampire biology, I now want to write a story about a vampire boy/girl of *actually* about 17 or so (because when you read about them, they always *look* like they're in their teens/twenties but are actually in their hundreds) falling in love with an older human. Because yay for Doing Things Different.
I'd love to hear the explanation behind that. Are you folks on AIM? MSN? Otherwise, Trojie has my e-mail.

Yeah, that's the one. No one else claimed it, so I did. I might even bump it up the list. It should be a relatively easy mission with lots to poke fun at. I just have to decide whether Hermione is replaced or just thoroughly possessed. Eragon is probably in character except for having no memory of his actual life, but I haven't finished reading the fic yet.

I couldn't even get through the first book. Too much Sue and Stu. Everyone and her Alsatian reccomended it to me just because I'm gothly. Bah.
