...it's very strange to be posting a message that isn't in characte- OH HAI.
As might be surmised by my ridiculous subject, I'm a new person who is hoping to join and assist the PPC. I was drawn in after reading Chatvert's work, which happened a while after she said I should join. At least, I think she said that.
Well, about me. Or, more importantly, my views on fanfiction. I'm a real stick in the mud when it comes to canon. Simply put, if it's not canon or in character, I generally dislike it. Exceptions of course are when something is really well written, with evidence and a strong basis for any non-canon material or OoCness that might exist.
Which is why I can rant on all day about why AxB is wrong because A would not have anything romantic to do with B in canon, yada yada yada doesn't work blah blah no support for it yackity yack let's get cookies.
I have a really odd view upon slash. In my head slash implies a non-canonical pairing, and as stated above, I heavily dislike that. But I can tolerate it, so long as it's not in one of my favorite canons. I don't LIKE it, but it won't scar me.
Mary-Sues. Not going to say much besides that they annoy me to no end and that I'm really paranoid about any of my OC's being Sues, to the point where I actually slammed them through the Litmus Test just to make sure.
...I look this over and think great, it's tl;dr and I'm not even DONE.
Fast-Forward through all the rest to... My Fandoms!
I've... got quite a few fandoms. And there's a priority thing for them in my brain, that really dictates just how much OoC I can handle without raging. I've actually developed a much higher tolerance level than I used to, up to the point that the only fandom that I will fiercely defend with the smallest provocation is Kingdom Hearts. Yes, THAT Kingdom Hearts. It's half Disney, for crying out loud! Other fandoms I like are Get Backers, Death Note, Invader Zim, Okami (Giant funball of doooooom), D. Gray-man, Fullmetal Alchemist, Pirates of the Caribbean, and pretty much every Disney movie that came out in the 90's.
I'm hoping that I'll be reading fics around those fandoms, and I'm aware that Kingdom Hearts is a victim particularly of Sues and really bad OoCness (Organization XIII smut? ...it just doesn't work. There is NOTHING in canon that could allow it to work. No emotions = no love, no pleasure, why would they waste their time?). I also seek to find the really bad ones, and I want to kill them. I want to kill them with FIRE. I want to cleanse the world of badfic! I shall FIND the worst, and I shall DESTROY it for the sake of SOCIETY!! I shall-- *dragged away*
*coughs* So yeah. That's me in a nutshell.
Here.
Have an Evil Manatee Fun Ball. 8D
Trust me.
I've been trying to decide what to give new recruits.
A proctoscope, maybe? Handy for finding suethors' heads. Or maybe a pirate's peg leg? Great for cracking PotC Sues over the head. A panther? Naw, it would probably eat your plover. A pencil sharpener? Useful for those Agents who always seem to have dull pencils when they're writing up their charge sheets.
Ah, I know! A petard!
Yes, that's what I shall give out: a petard, so that if Sues (or their authors) can't be hoist by their own petard, at least they can be hoist by yours. Take all usual precautions for handling explosive devices, of course.
I'm also pretty paranoid of any of my OCs being 'Sues. I've put some of them through the litmus test about three times, just to make sure. Stupid thing was, they WERE 'Sues, but I totally didn't lie on the test! >
Erm, yeah. Welcome!
Not going to say much besides that they annoy me to no end and that I'm really paranoid about any of my OC's being Sues, to the point where I actually slammed them through the Litmus Test just to make sure.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one. Better safe than sorry, I suppose...
We differ in that I'm actually terribly fond of slash (to the extent that Bad Slash fills me with uncontrolable rage)but other than that we seem to be okay. *shakes your hand* Nice to meet you. I know you didn't list any of their titles in your list of fandoms but have you ever heard of the group CLAMP?
*handshake*
Yes, I'm familiar with CLAMP, though I can't say I'm a fan of their work. It's alright, just not my thing. I just prefer things that have action or really complex plots and characters.
Oh, well. You listed some other great titles (even if they're pretty mainstream) so I'll assume you have good taste. If you're into action and complex characters, I'd recomend X/1999 but you've already said you're not a fan.
...I guess my CLAMP experience is pretty limited, then. Might have to check that one out. Also, forgot to mention Murder Princess as one I enjoy.
Huh, didn't know Get Backers was considered 'mainstream'. A lot of people I talk to haven't heard of it.
I keep seeing the manga for it in the shop and thinking 'Is it worth buying?'. Is it?
It's good, albeit fairly unrealistic. Starts off slowly, and the script may seem pretty bad, but it appears that the translator got changed sometime in the first two novels, since it greatly improves by volume three. There's cursing, violence, and it's got some nakedness in it, though not an absurd amount and it's mostly action and comedy.
The cast is pretty large, two main characters and a host of recurring supporting characters (one of whom is more popular than one of the two mains, as it were). First volume is not a really good example of the series, since it's more introductory. It really picks up in volume two and the first really big arc starts in volume five.
The cast is the real high point; one would be hard pressed to find a more diverse group.
Because it suits your name so well. Do note the bunny ears and bloody dagger attatched to its brim. ;p
Great to meet you!

*third hat get*
Thanks! *loves hats* *is now wearing THREE hats*
My all-time record is 22
Speaking as someone who also seeks to find the worst she can and kill it from a sense of Duty, welcome!
Yes, killing the worst in the name of Duty IS fun, isn't it?
although the dinosaur pr0n and some of the other things I've done were vaguely disturbing at the same time...
Ah yes, I READ your work. Jesus, that must have been NIGHTMARISH. Also, I read your review... Are you really a student of Paleontology? Because that would seriously rock, since that's what I intend to study once I get out of the hell of high school (one more year... just one more!).
The inevitable question: What's your favorite dinosaur? I'm fond of Velociraptor and Utahraptor myself.
I'm hoping to start my PhD before the end of the year. I will be studying molluscs rather than dinosaurs, but dinosaurs are a lifelong obsession of mine.
Favourites? I have to pick one? While I do like dromaeosaurids like the raptors, I have to say that Stegosaurus is my favourite. But Triceratops should probably be in there too given I have one as a daughter in the PPC :P
*btw; you know about Utahraptor and how it isn't Velociraptor? You get SPECIAL BONUS POINTS! *grumbles about Jurassic Park and inaccuracies*
I DO know the difference. Utahraptor is something around four times as large as Velociraptor, and the skulls are built differently (Velociraptor has a much narrower snout.)
Triceratops used to be my favorite, but I find I really like the dromaeosaurids simply because they were probably about as smart as modern wolves.
YES! YESSS! *punches the air* SOMEONE ELSE WHO KNOWS!
I know, the intelligence thing is totally an intellectual turn on :P Deinonychus too is pretty damn awesome what with the GINORMOUS HUGE DISEMBOWLLING CLAWS OF DOOM. And the whole pack-hunting theory, srsly ...
*does Dance of Awesomeness Dance*
I should stop there or a) Pads will *whap* me for inducing her Jurassic Park traumas or b) I will get very carried away and overenthusiastic and when that happens there's nothing for it but to smack me with a large stick. With nails in.
Deinonychus is really awesome. Heck, ALL dromaeosaurids are awesome with their murder claws.
Jurassic Park traumas? Do I want to know...??
And dromaeosaurids are way too cool for words :)
I officially heart you. You are on my list of awesome people. Invader Zim and Kingdom Hearts?
Have a pointe shoe. Nice and hard, good for smacking things with.
And welcome. I'm kinda new myself, but... well, you know. ^_^
Pointe shoe! Wow, I'm just gathering all SORTS of stuff to kill Sues with. When can I start? *wants to kill Sues. Badly*
Under starlight, under something-that-might've-been-a-moon-somewhere-else light, under- well, whatever light happens to be going your way currently, I guess. *grabs hat so's she can tip it at you*
*headtilt* …'ve I seen you elsewhere?
Which fandoms were you around first in? Might not be relevant, I just wonder, since- as I understand it- slash's meaning has kind of changed over time.
*glees at fandoms* Fun!
…there could be physical pleasure. Maybe. Me, I, uh- snakes. *twitch* Though more the other one.
…that one might've been a troll though, given the last line.
Anyway. Welcome! *hands over a box of biscuits*
Welcome to the PPC!
*grins at a dark-skinned man who is glaring in The Mad Hattie's general direction*
Ignore him - he's one of my agents (and one of my OCs generally. come to think of it). His nickname's actually Mad Hatter, which is why he's glaring...I think. Although he could just be glaring at you for the hell of it. He does that occasionally.
So, anyways, have a top hat. They are most cool and awesome. And this one has sporks sewn into the lining.
Oh, and yayness for more FMA fans XDD
Wow... my nickname's actually Mad Hattie, so... *offers truce*
Another hat! *puts spork-top hat on top of ypur fur hat*
They need to release FMA translated manga faster >.
And a random FMA question, becuae I am random: favourite character?
the agent: *looks over at Mad Hattie and grudgingly tips his hat* Truce.
Aah, favorite character... I've always particularly liked Riza Hawkeye, and I practically cried when Hughes died (which led to a hatred of Envy). Ed too, probably because of his self-denial.
I've got a bit of a soft spot for Ed, I have to admit, (Hey, us short folk have got to stick together, you know!) but my favourites are probably Roy, Miles and Scar.
Here, have some cookies. I baked them myself and I hope they're not too badly burnt. Bon Appetit!
Yay, cookies!
*nom nom*
Nope, not burned!
made of blue ypur fur. It's nice and fuzzy, although it tends to look a bit ridiculous.
A ypur, actually, is a blue yak in appearance, with extremely spiky horns and a taste for sausages. Spambot sausages they like the best, since they were born from a troll's misspelling of "your". How that happens I really have no idea. o.o
Anywhoo. *waves madly* *cackles*
*puts on hat*
I wear any hat, whether it's paper, pimp, or a person.
Wiki link has been given out already, so I have nothing to give you.
Aside from chewmarks.
I probably don't have rabies though, so aren't you lucky?
*nom'd*
Yay, no rabies! (I hope)
Apologies, I am a little hyper. Greetings, hail and well met, and other such welcoming phrases.
*hands over a bag of pebbles for throwing at Sues and a Random Shiny Object to gaze at*
July and Ansela seem to hand out the links now, which I used to do till July yelled at me for it. :)
Anywhoo. Lovely to have you. As others have said, the place for sanity is at the door. You may as well leave it there till you head back out. Everyone else does.
*gleefully takes Random Shiny Object and pebbles*
At the door? Pfft, I left my sanity back in 4th grade. It seemed to like it there.
*hugs*
Ahem. Um.
Have an egg whisk! It's shiny, gold-plated, and whisks spambots, author wraiths, and eggs! Use it for good and not much evil.
Welcome to the insanity!
I can already tell I'm going to enjoy working here. This is like... my ideal home!
I mean, I've never gotten a free egg whisk before!
Welcome. Have a P-90. It's useful for killing Sues.
Have you checked out the PPC Wiki yet? It has quite a lot of useful information for anyone involved with the PPC. Also, read The Original Series (not to be confused with Star Trek) if you have time.
You say you don't like slash? What about canonical homosexuality? Or fics set several years after the canon ends, when the characters could plausibly have entered into a relationship with someone?
Welcome to the PPC and leave your sanity at the door. You won't need it here. *laughs madly*
Canonical homosexuality I like. Also, fics after the canon with plausibility is fine too. I guess I really didn't think about mentioning that, since you don't see those two very often.
And, uh, I was obsessively stalking the wiki before deciding to join. I tend to do things like that *grins*
Welcome, Hattie! I give you a quartrain.
Welcome, new person, to the PPC
Where things are weird but very fun
When faced with Badfic Legendary
Don't read a word, just start to run.
...I never said it was a good quatrain.
...I liked it!
Hiiiiiiii. It's about bloody time you joined. Have a spork and some duct tape. Nice to have you on the crew. And I can't *believe* you included Okami :P (FUNBALLLLL!)
I'll leave the more informational and business-like stuff to those who usully do it (Cassie, etc.). Yay for joining!
