I have not read Ranger's Apprentice, but from what I see of it on Wikipedia, it sounds like a good story.

So all I'm seeing due to that lack of context is a mental image of two string instruments fighting each other in televised combat, possibly professional boxing. Not that that's not entertaining, but I feel I'm probably missing something.
...the protagonist is called Will Treaty. He plays a mandola. Everyone calls it a lute. Hence my comment just below.

I love Cinder (Lunar Chronicles) but I don't think they are very well known... Yet.
Practically every series I love I have read every book that has come out so-far. I think it is necessary to say I am a very fast reader, can finish one Ranger's Apprentice book in an hour or two.
