While editing the page for mini types, I added the note next to the mini-author bullet point about this, but I think it'd be a good idea to provide a concrete explanation for that for the benefits of readers as well. What's the official explanation?

But if you're not the one for swearing, then this might not be the story for you? I don't like to litter all of my writing with profanity - my two latest missions were both PG-13, at least as far as the language goes. But I do write a lot of lowbrow, foul-mouthed female characters simply because it's a character archetype I enjoy seeing (not one for delicate swooning heroines, myself), so yeah. The language isn't going to get any more... Jane Austen-style, to quote Beth, I'm afraid. I appreciate you taking the time to check this out, though. I swear I didn't mean to guilt anyone into reading, but this is a project very near and dear to me, so yeah, it does mean a lot to me to see replies in this thread.

I appreciate you taking the time to give me a message back. :) And I'm glad you like this! I feel like there's a lot of room for improvement, but it's fun, so as long as other people find it fun too, that's all I can ask for.

It's sort of weirdly fascinating, but there is a lot of swearing, which i'm not really happy about. I think it's distracting. Now that it's the weekend and I have time to mess around on the internet instead of doing homework, I think I will read more. Thanks for reminding me!

And by ancient, I mean originally hosted on Geocities ancient. Inhabitants of the Board, may I present the Subjugation of the LotR fandom, in which Legolas becomes the wimpy sex slave of Elrond and Elrond is a giant honking r@pist and abuser. Enough OOC-ness to go around: Legolas, Elrond, Glorfindel are all OOC, even Thranduil falls victim to this at one point. All in all, not for the faint of heart.

Chapter 10, I guess? by

Yeah, this... this project sure hasn't gotten a standing ovation. I won't stop working on it, and I honestly can't expect anyone to spend their time reading this 28000-word monstrosity, but if you do click on a chapter, just letting me know that you did that here in this thread would actually mean something to me. Anyway, yeah. No guilt-tripping, promise. But it would be nice to not be talking to myself.
Chapter 10 is here, with even more banter and dumb jokes, and perhaps... Do I smell just a hint of plot? (Warnings: several plot points and jokes involving fire, as well as a brief bit of body horror - presented in a non-scary way, but it might give you a mental image. Oh, and language, as usual.)

It's the whole fanfare about "supporting PoC" and the… ahem… white sheet people that made me initially believe it was a troll fic. It's too over-the-top to be taken seriously.

That doesn't mean the story is good (it really isn't; can we say "trivialization"?), but it does mean that, as a white person, I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot spork.

I'm gray-ace myself. {= ) I think the relationships in the musical don't bug me, though, because the one with Emma (Jekyll's fiancee) is a pretty decent one, with respect and support between them and not just sap; and the thing with Hyde and Lucy is 100% as messed up and horrible as it should be. And I imagine there was probably pressure to have female roles in the show, which is a good thing! Though I will say Emma is fairly useless as a character, IIRC; she doesn't actively move the plot, she's just kinda there until they drop the bridge on her. So she could have been done better. Lucy feels much more like a real person to me, and her crush on Jekyll at least serves to show him being a good person and loyal fiance to Emma.
I gotta say musical!Jekyll is generally less of a selfish coward than book!Jekyll, too. Musical!Jekyll is a bit of a wet blanket, but at least he's out to help his gravely mentally ill father; book!Jekyll just wanted to have his party cake and eat it, too, without losing his respectable image. So, yeah, I like musical!Jekyll better and I'm not sorry. {; P I daresay if Hyde is less evil in the musical, it's because Jekyll is more good—and, lest we forget, Hyde is Jekyll, and Jekyll is Hyde. {= )
ETA: I just spent a bunch of time listening to more of that recording, and it's so much better than the Original Broadway Cast one. Like, dang, they're not shying away from criticism of the upper class, and I'm so here for it. {X D
