I got less than 30 seconds in before shutting down my brain - old reflexes die hard. Somewhere between realizing that "Nikkaly" is a really f***ed up name for Middle Earth and trying to wrap my head around run-on sentences that don't quite work in the first paragraph, I was already taking mental evasive action. xD

Blood and Chocolate. I'm not kidding. Legolas/OC and super-porny. AND CHOCOLATE DOES NOT BELONG IN MIDDLE-EARTH, ERUDAMNIT!

I would try to spork some of these if I understood what the hell was going on in them. Okay, so if I was trying to write fanfic in Russian it would look much, much worse. But, y'know, that's why I write in my own language and would get a beta-reader if I tried to use any other.

Me n Pigeonarmy, who doesn't seem to be around much anymore. And hopefully Sedri and I will be able to get together at some point, and I dare say we'll call that a Gathering too :D

After it was over, What' said: "Wow. I think Banzai would have loved this party."
"Quite. A pity he's not there. This is much more epic than any tall ship gathering. The Columbus Race was nothing next to this. Actual fights?"
"Well, in a sense I wonder if it's not better to not have somebody who plays musi...il 3am every night for ten days."
"What', I know you're getting old, turning Vulcan, and all, but going after Banzai??? This is just beyond me."

The core of the problem is the distance, not the Atlantic Ocean. Even if it took place in my country, it would likely still require me to buy a plane ticket or drive for a day or two to get there. And I don't have a car.
But most importantly, how would I explain that to my parents?
"Hey mom, the Protectors of the Plot Continuum are planning a gathering half a continent away. Can I go?"
"Uh... what's that?"
"A terminally nerdy Internet community I joined two months ago. We spork badfic, kill Mary Sues and restore the canon."
"You spork what to kill what and restore what?!"

It's chainsaws all the way for me.
And I agree! Although the survey that just went out will be equally as interesting.

... it's not only England that's allowed to call Gatherings. To my knowledge there've been at least three official ones outside the UK -- Canada, New Yorkish, and somewhere antipodean. Obviously if you live in Mongolia or somewhere it'd be a bit tricky, but most places you can pull at least two or three other people together. Try it, see what you can manage.
That being said, we /are/ lucky. :P

Wish I could make it out there, but I think I'm done on the international front for at least a few months now.
This is what happens when I go to Argentina for two months without telling anyone or going on anything but necessaries for the duration. From now on I do hereby swear that I will pay more attention to the PPC boards and actually POST, as by this point most people don't even remember me (except possibly as one of those lurkers who posts occasionally, but there's many of those, ain't there?).

Falls under the category of "It rhymes, so it must be clever!1one!!" (except I think it was one of the first things to fall under that category, it being a rather old word.)

Never left the international area of the airport, though. I was only there to take another plane to Geneva.
Good luck to those who go to the Gathering. I hope you all realize how lucky you are.
