... can and will be used in the commentary if the chance arises.
I had a friend who showed me this website. Let's try something interesting. Think of a pair of Agents, Boarders, Flowers, Sues, Minis, and other things. Put them into the simulator at https://brantsteele.net/hungergames/disclaimer.php with a bunch of other Agents, Flowers, Sues, Minis , Agents, and all sorts of other dangerous things. Post what happens. Good luck, and may the odds be in your favour.
Making it the final prize was also pretty fun, and show how much a fan of Johanna Mason the sponsor was.
Must admit, I would have used the squirrels as a the reaction to this last hatchet, though using them as an answer to the truce was a good choice.
I was rolling at the "another ******* hatchet" line.
*applauds*
Well done, hS, and I eagerly look forward to next season!
I like this first-person take on the concept. Sure, it's dark (especially with the whole "killing different versions of yourself" thing), but in a very effective way. I think that your going-in-blind approach helped build that sense of dread and nervousness.
That also gave me a bunch of ideas regarding a Hunger Games simulation of my own, so an additional thank you for that.
Watching the different narrators get killed off was more than just a little chilling. Bravo, and if you'll excuse me I'm off to cuddle my piggies.
Writing is good, no problem with that. But yeah, such style would be too dark for the event. And must admit I find the idea of mutiple avatars from the same persons killing each other really disturbing. In other words, the perfect Hunger Games.
... channel the happy-go-lucky side of my agents for the main event, promise.
hS
Well written.
-July, pondering
Sergio detailed the whole thing down below.
So far, including Huinesoron's suggestion of adding Captain Dandy and Tiger Lily to the roster, I am at 46 players.
At this point, I think I will add to the last District Luxury (of course) and Dr. Fitzgerald.
Why the latter? Because this way he can have a better understanding on why Agents tend to injure themselves with crazy plans.
Please tell me you're leaving the 'snuggling' in. >:D
I assume you'll be making a new thread for this?
hS
Also because it has lots of potential.
In one of the test runs I made, Agent!Sergio got killed by Nikki (who, at this point in time, is his girlfriend) the turn after after he spent the night hugging another girl for warmth.
... I didn't remember making Nikki a yandere, but that would've been a good incipit for some more character development for those two.
Tomorrow I'll do the finishing touches on generator setup and we'll be ready to go!
I would love to see one-paragraph pre-Games interviews with the Tributes (as indeed happened in the books). It'd be a good chance to get my agents motivations down, too.
hS will stop now
Though I would have to deal with 48 of those, and I have no idea how they are made as I never actually read Hunger Games.
(I can, though - my sister's a fan. But I'm afraid I'm just not interested in the genre.)
Before the actual games begin, the tributes are interviewed on national television by eccentric host Caesar Flickerman, and the questions vary. Stuff like "why did you volunteer" or "do you think you have a shot at winning", just stuff like that.
... it would be simplest simply to have all 48 post single-paragraph statements. We can't be having with that 'interaction' malarkey.
hS
For my lot.
-July, who is getting an awful lot of use out of her tablet's mini-keyboard, all considering
...the camera crew was promptly and brutally murdered by half a dozen bloodthirsty agents.
The two hosts have GodMode on and one of them has a P90 submachine gun.
Attacking the hosts is gound for immediate elimination from the game. Literal elimination.
Good thing it's all holodeck stuff.
Androia Avatar (Androia) (F) Quarterstaff
Hieronymus Graubart (HG) (M) The Sharp Sword of Reason
They aren’t exactly agents yet (I swear someday they will be), but they appeared at least in the badfic game’s PPC and in some writing exercises which sadly dropped off the Board.
HG
Considering the signups slowed a lot and I still have places left, I'll consider that enough.
I will be forced to do that myself, actually, as my Agents' district remained with an empty space (so I'll bring Rayson back. Something about him will be published soon, I swear) and I'll likely fill the last District with free-to-use characters.
Including Flowers. Now, which ones would actually be interested?...
Natalie (Nat) (F) A yellow-bladed lightsaber
Za'kiir (M) A couple of throwing knives
Only 24 hours left!
How dark do you want the commentary to be? Because I'm doing a first-person commentary on a match I'm running, and it is... pretty bad. The whole 'and then the RNG says they kill their friends' thing was always going to end up that way, so if you want us to aim for lighthearted, you'll probably need to specify.
hS
Would having some over-the-top presentation before the Games, à la Saints Row, Genki Super Ethical Reality Climax, do? Something like this would lighten up the atmoosphere, if dark isn't intended.
But the TV hosts will be two anime-type girls who are a bit too cheerful for a game about killing (albeit virtually) your friends.
I will try to keep the game more light-hearted that Huinesoron's portrayal, and in fact I'm editing the events towards that. For example, I'm deleting most instances of suicide and assisted suicide (thinking about leaving one instance of a player just getting fed up with the game or something similar)
I didn't explain myself properly earlier, but the "teams topped up by free-to-use-characters" rule is there to fill up the roster in case we are short of actual Boarder-backed Agents.
Also, I realized that I threw Rayson in before actually publishing any of the material he's featured in, so I'm removing him from my district. Using him would've been unfair in case we run out of space but people still wanted to join...
Eleven places left, by the wasy.
I'd like to make it possible to have actually happened, so I'll go with JF.
You can shove in Agent hS (Huinesoron -- Huinesoron -- Male -- Bow) in his place if you want current agents.
hS
Sergio and Nikki retired way before this happens, and yet they're joining in.
If NTV asked Dafydd to come in to give his thoughts on a hologram of him going through the Hunger Games, he probably would. If they asked him to go into the Arena himself... yeah, 'thanks, but I'm more heavily armed than you and my wife has a flamethrower trained on your back'.
hS
So it's basically an holodeck/virtual reality simulation, with the players actually playing "in person" but obviously not gettign hurt for real?
Does this mean there might be a pseudo-alliance between Dafydd and Wobbles as people who don't necessarily like the thought of a PPC Hunger Games but got roped in anyway? Because, well, that might work. =]
Violent sporting events are nothing new to HQ.
...Actually come to think since this is all holodeck stuff, it's probably less violent than Australian Indoor Rules Quiddich.
I don't think Dafydd would be averse to it, but that doesn't mean it'll happen. Depends entirely on the RNG.
hS
... can and will be used in the commentary if the chance arises.
It was more meant as a shortened version of the name to avoid clogging up the event report, and Skinny Guy can be confusing so I'd go with "Gaspard" if you're OK with it.
The theme I'm shooting for is pretty much: "We can't remember this guy's name, so let's just make up a mildly insulting one that sticks and is technically true".
It's the name the auto-generated commentary will use exclusively. That really should be your agent's actual name, otherwise no-one will know it's him.
(Also, Twiggy Papaya is an actual PPC agent.)
hS
Nnnnnot necessarily Gaspard. =]
It's to leave a fair chance for everyone to join in. Unless, of course, you're the main writer of that agent - in that case, I can make an exception
...swapping out Bulldog for good ol' lazy Yakov and his trusty wand.
Or Harris. I'm not sure which would be funnier. {= )
~Neshomeh
I mean, they go through all of the badfic the Agents mission, from the beginning to the end, and they cannot kill the glitterbags for vindication. It takes an impressive level of badassery for pulling such stunt.
James Pittman (James) — M — Sniper rifle
Laura Dukes (Laura) — F — Cybernetic enhancements
Penelope Teng (Gremlin) — F — Metahuman powers (electromagnetic manipulation)
Xericka (Xericka) — F — Teleportation
With any luck, they'll do better than in a test run I did with my own created characters (both PPC and not). They had a tendency to commit suicide, leading to a rather anti-climactic simulation.
They're two of my favourite Agents, and I actually put them in the roster of my first tryout of the generator.
Gremlin won.
That would mean Iximaz gets five Agents of hers in, but considering you're the one writing her I'll consider her yours and let her in.
Swap out Gabrielle for:-
---
Algernon, 7th Earl Wymbourne ♂ (Algie): books of English magic
Or, rather, I would need to save and re-upload them on some hosting site that gives a link the generator digests.
It would be a ton of work, just for making the status panels. I'm... not sure it's worth it.
After the roster is full and the modified events are sorted out, I will do exactly one game with one turn (or one dayy) per actual Real Life day or so.
So no restarts :P
(I will do a test run or two with placeholders in to check if the modified events work, though.)
He stepped off the pedestal too soon.
Zeb (Zeb) (M): lightning
The Aviator (Ave) (F) : staser
Alex Dives (Alex) (M): light saber (he's been practicing :P)
Farilan-Haothil-Esthine (Farilan) (F): tail blade
Only have two Agents though, so sharing it is. Here are their presentations:
Richard Legard (Richard) (M) Swordstick, Remote.
Marina Nicodelli (Marina) (F) Magic, Pistol.
I technically only have 2 as well, since I haven't estabilished much about Anju and I haven't even given her a partner yet, so shared district it's for me as well.
Henry Asclepe (Henry) (M) War Hammer
Aiko Kimura (Aiko) (F) Bow
However, I'll be honored of sharing a district with you.
Well, Anju wouldn't do well in combat unless she digivolved, which haven't estabilished in a PPC wtiting yet so ...
I'll be honored to be sharing one with you as well.
What should be our district name?
District Newbie? At the moment, we're the two most recent Boarders participating to this event, and our agents are all relatively recent additions to this madhouse, so...
Though I intended only one attack method for each contestant, as found weapons will override them in most cases anyways. I'll take swordstick and pistol, if you are OK with it.
Using her magic against people would just eat her soul anyway, so that's better.
My deepest apologies to hS and Kaitlyn - that was cruel, RNG.
...sorry about killing you, by the way.
Good for me Tough Cookie's no longer around, I suppose?
-July, Still Alive
I don't even get the honour of being the first kill... or even Dann's first kill!
hS, permanent second place
I also noticed the interactions between myself and Nesh in the simulation. This feels like an appropriate dramatization of how things might have gone down.
Plus, one additional note. I apparently made it all the way to the end without killing anyone. There were two occasions that I noticed where I refuse to deliver a killing blow. Games!Me apparently thought he could come out of it with his sense of honor and morality intact. Poor sad bastard.
For a little while, at lest. So, if you want to run this lineup yourself for whatever reason, here's the link: http://brantsteele.net/hungergames/r.php?c=TyJ95ec4
I added pictures, too. Some of them are photos of things I thought were vaguely apt, but oh well.
~Neshomeh
Why not creating a Board Hunger Games? Anyone interested for joining the bloddbath can sign in here, but they also must give their prefered gender at the same time so it can be put on the simulator.
Add Bill Nye. For completion.
Specifically, Radio Nutmeg's commentary on the first day. (Transcript only, I'm afraid!)
The rest of the Games may or may not get written, but there's some cool stuff in there, so I kinda hope I do.
hS
Not everyone has Loads and Loads of Characters to choose from, after all.
(Though for District Ix [District 9?] I'd have the Aviator, Zeb, Alex, and Farilan, I suppose.)
If two Boarders have two Agents each, they can "share" one district.
In the end, the competition is individual. I've played the generator several times, and plenty of time I've seen people getting killed by their own partners...
When I read the results last night, I thought it begged to have a story written for it. A sports-reporting take suits me just fine. ^_^
One thing I really want to know: Who is sending all those hatchets? O.o
~Neshomeh
At the same link.
More almost certainly forthcoming. This is fun. ^_^
hS
And the Aviator brutally murders the Dream Team. I must say, Acacia's repeated teamups were brilliant from a storytelling perspective.
Two of the five remaining tributes have zero kills to their name. The others all have multiple.
hS
Let the bloodbath begin!
(Also, " bringing the Aviator up to eight kills, the highest total in the game!" - did you mean four?)
...then I'm gonna flood the arena with hatchets and you can't stop me!
(Though that brought a sudden bout of Fridge Horror: what if the Gamemakers decided to literally flood the place with sharp pointy things?)
The "the agents seem to have read the books!" line cracked me up, at least. :D
And the holodeck simulation explanation makes... a lot of sense, actually. plus it wouldn't do to have Dio's victory taken away by a regenerated Time Lord. I mean, can you say hax?
Though considering Van Helsing knew how to take out vampires, and he was able to show Mina and Quincey and the lot how to do it. And in the end, Drac's death was... kind of underwhelming? ^^; But that's neither here nor there.
*puts up garlic around her house*
... she was killed with her own weapon. And there's no way Selene would carry a weapon that could kill her; she's not dumb.
hS
The Aviator fought just like how I thought a time lord would. That was so amazing.
He's acting like some mad hermit - going off on his own, picking flowers, fending people away from his fire.
If he doesn't survive this, I'm going to scream.
