doc was the name I kept looking at while making the 'More candidates' lists. The main reason I didn't suggest him myself (other than having already proposed one - I'm not overly fond of the 'hS Is Controlling Everything' narrative) is that I feel like he hasn't been all that active.
But every PG we've got has had their inactive spells, so that's not really a bar if people are in favour. So yes, I support this.
hS -
Agreed. by
on 2018-04-06 14:36:00 UTC

Speaking as someone who has had doc as a beta multiple times, his writing abilities are excellent and his judgement is well-reasoned. Considering how long he has been with this community, I see no reason why he shouldn't be a PG.

No offense to ya, doc—I do think you'd be a great mod, if you had the time, but you're not really online enough to keep an eye on how the chat's going.
That said, I fully support him being a Permission Giver. :) -

I specifically abstain from PG or Moderator election. by
on 2018-04-04 13:54:00 UTC
Reply
This is for people who make people go, and I quote, "oh hey, PERSONNAMEHERE has actually been really great for the community!". I cause arguments and drama and I get unreasonably angry at minor provocation. While I wouldn't go so far as to say that I'm bad for the community (though there were quite a few people over the years who'd argue otherwise), I'm nowhere near the standard of both behaviour and output that a PG/Moderator should uphold.

I nominate Tomash for Moderator by
on 2018-04-04 12:17:00 UTC

Tomash is an active participant in the community, and he has already shown his ability to handle responsibility. He is generally able to examine both sides of a given situation, and does not make decisions rashly. I believe he would make an excellent mod.
-
Speaking as a PPC member, and not as the Discord admin... by
on 2018-04-06 14:35:00 UTC
Reply
...I do not support this nomination.
While it is true that Tomash has been very active and constructive in the Discord, he has been a mod before and was forced to step down due to a questionable incident (as hS pointed out). It's not so much that, however--that was a year ago, and his behavior since then has been very good--as much as the fact that Tomash didn't mention any of that at all upon accepting his nomination.
All that said, if there is sufficient support to reappoint Tomash as a mod, I will not block it. I will respect the decision of the community. -
I debated whether I should mention that by
on 2018-04-06 17:59:00 UTC
Reply
I went back and forth on whether to explicitly mention that incident and that I felt I'd learned from it. I ended up not bringing it up because I didn't want to reopen old wounds (with some other past incidents we seem to just not bring them up anymore for that reason).
I'm not sure that was the best idea, now that I think about it.

It looks like there's not that many candidates running around, so feel free to just stick your +1s, objections, or whatever else you have to say either all at once as a reply somewhere or as replies to each nomination. Since we're not dealing with too many nominations, we don't really need to bother with the second thread, I think, and we can just vote here.

The main reason for "please don't vote here" is because I wanted to make it easier for the lurkier folks easier and sot hat we could keep this thread to a small affair affair with arguments in favor (or, if it was needed, against) of people.
So yeah, please nominate people if you have any suggestions.

I want to nominate Hieronymus Graubart for PG. by
on 2018-03-29 07:14:00 UTC
Reply
He's one of our more persistant reviewers, and his work on the Uncanonical Department of Inaccuracies shows that his knowledge goes beyond simple technical errors and into understanding the PPC as a whole. He's a friendly and trustworthy part of the community (unlike all our existing Permission Givers, he's never been embroiled in a scandal or drama!), and to the best of my knowledge, is the only person in the PPC's long history to be given Permission unasked-for, by common acclamation from the PGs.

Which would look pretty strange. ^_^ "Hi, I'm Hieronymus, I'll be judging your Permission application. Oh, my stories? No, I'm not allowed to write them; I'm just here to see if you can."
... that kind of sounds like something that would happen around here, to be fair.

Larfen J. Stocke, esq. for Permission Giver by
on 2018-03-28 06:36:00 UTC
Reply
Larfen has been around for a few years now. He's written several rather funny pieces of work set in the PPC universe, including the Flaming Broomsticks cycle, which significantly expanded the Janitorial Division.
He seems to have a good sense of the universe and is around reasonably often. I'd trust him with the keys to the universe, and therefore I nominate him as a Permission Giver.

I can say however that he writes well himself, is generally fun to talk to (including about written works), and is an active PPCer.
