A certain Sherlock/Hitchhiker's Guide crossover fic has caught my attention. So far it is only one chapter in length, but I'm keeping an eye on it. It has the potential to turn into a rather large mess. <br> The grammar is almost passable at moments, but a great deal of it turns into this: "You have no information except that last you heard he was in London? Lost contact for at least three year. Well it's better than anything I heard all week but first we must wait for John to show. He has two minutes judging by the last time this happened."<br> Then there is the matter of Trillian being renamed Zooey, and having the unfortunate occupation of: "actress, fashion icon and superstar."<br> I'm thinking of posting a short review with con. criticism. Should I wait for it to spiral downwards before officially reporting it, or drop the link here for reference? I'm not sure if there's a procedure for this.
Nanoha also gets unbreakable bones, an infodump on history, and a new 'Forerunner' style magic that can only be used lethally.
It does say that a 'coup de tat' overthrew the TSAB's government (somehow) while keeping control of all the planets, the army, and keepin the council system of government. Ignoring the civil war likely to come from such a coup, this means that, not only are Fate, Subaru, and Hayate going against their friend and siding with their hated enemy, they're also obeying the people who overthrew the government!
Thank you Kitty!
I've just dumped a bunch of crossovers and fanfics that've been sitting in my bookmarks for a while.
I'd remove Midoriya Mania and Material Madness.
While they aren't exceptionally good grammar-wise, they kinda managed to make me laugh, which is what they were supposed to do in the first places (being parody crackfics and all), and the author seems open to concrit.
Besides, Midoriya Mania sounds like a one-shot (and so is probably too short for a mission or a MST).
Thankies so much for the adds - the page is looking more and more official!
I like it. Very thorough.
It's the best I could do at twelve in the morning...It's very heavily based off the Unclaimed Badfic page - in some areas I only changed a word or two - and I didn't add any categories under the headings.
But thankies for the compliment!
Twelve in the morning? like, 1200, or 0000?
/cannot into time zones and/or doesn't know where anybody lives.
Which one is 0000 in UTC? Because I didn't bookmark the graph I found...
Okay, I think I remember 6:33 UTC being 10:33 PST, and I put that marker down before I was actually finished with the page...
Anyway, midnight. Late. (At least, it was near eleven when I finished, and honestly I don't remember actually making the page or writing the 'page is up' post here, except the computer is adamant that I did both...)
Sorry, I've gotten in the habit of using Zulu time (24 hour) instead of 'normal.' I confuse less easily about when I'm to do what that way.
Do you have Permission yet, or d'you have to wait a bit more? I found a short little unfinished Lioness fic that's making steam come out my ears. The MC's such a massive Sue I can barely wrap my head around it.
I don't have Permission just yet - I'm still working the kinks out of my character bios and the writing sample. I may be ready by Wednesday, though. Do you have a link in the meantime?
Link : http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2310723/1/Princess-Knight
Read it and be infuriated.
(I just realized I doubleposted part of that last post. Whoopsie)
Princess Knight has been reported and is on the Unclaimed Badfic page. If it's going to be sporked i should be removed from there first.
Uhm...are there minis for the Pierce'verse? Because I think that's supposed to be Duke Gareth I of Naxen...
Yup, mini-Stormwings. Eek...
Mini-Stormwings out the wazoo. Among other things.
Wait, so then 10:33 pm isn't 6:33 UTC?
UTC time confuses me...
Seriously, what the fruk was that
/downs all the Bleepka
Here, have some Bleepolate. It'll make you feel better. -pats you on the back-
I just... my country... *sobs and eats Bleepolate*
Just looking at the story descriptions alone was enough for me. I didn't even open a single fic.
I just..what is this I don't even...
*takes a slug of Bleepka straight from the bottle*
If I knew the canons better, I wold write a mission or three. And the Link/Karkat bit makes me nauseous.
Link it, so that we may satisfy our curiosity. Depending on the AUGH-Factor, I'd hold off on "officially" reporting it for now - unless, that is, it truly is that bad.
That sounds rather...frightening.
Out of morbid curiosity alone, I would say post the link to it so we have an idea of what you've discovered (not that your summary hasn't already thoroughly put me on edge).
Also, is there a 'Fics Under Surveillance' page on the wiki?
I'll keep scouring the wiki though. Well, here it is: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8148497/1/JohnWatsonOrArthurDent
If there isn't, maybe there should be one for cases such as this one? I mean, I don't know how frequent they are, but it seems to me it couldn't hurt to have somewhere to list any and all fics we find that need to have someone keeping an eye on them. If not a Wiki page, at the very least a link page on LiveJournal or sommat so everyone can keep tabs now and then...
Also, wow. That...that is bad. Not legendarily bad, but, yeah, it's got potential.
So, shall we talk with the higher-ups about making said page?
-gasp- You mean I (we) get to suggest a big change to the Wiki...to the guys in charge?
-feints, wakes up and squeals-
Let's!
I imagine we need to find a suitable way to bring the matter to their attention.
I remember Huinesoron telling someone that you can type up an Intel-style report even without Permission (but you can't write about the adventures the spy has within the story).
The "Intel stub" should follow the template found on the Wiki, minus the topmost section.
/shameless attempt in reviving an almost dead Department
Be that the case or no, that simply will not do! after I get Permission and write a mission or two with my initial pair, I'll have to make an agent for the DoI, too.
(Plus, it seems kind of fun.)
And yes, I mean in pretty much every Infrastructure department (except for FIcPsych and Medical.) The character is supposed to be a person with a bunch of bodies--they're all identical, and she controls each one, sort of thing. Thing is, the agent doesn't get any of the normal advantages to being in multiple places at once--she can't make them appear or disappear, and she has almost no physical endurance or strength. So she does Infrastructure.
And I've noticed that, too. Maybe everyone's collectively deciding to give the DoI some love?
Does the Board not qualify? Where/how shall we go about this if that is the case?
And no, I am not bouncing with nervousness. Shush.
If they do, that's wonderful! I suppose we wait a day or two before bringing it up again.
Thanks for the information! It's always great to know more about a subject you're invested in.
And before this subject goes to dust - or becomes otherwise uninteresting, which is always a possibility - I shall ask the question on my mind: Since there seem to be mostly positive responses to the under-surveillance page idea, shall we create one?
Now, how do we do it?
Well, I'm on my mobile. I also happen to have no access to a computer, so it might be a bit difficult for me to contribute. I can try though...
I'll start things off, and then you can help fix anything that may need fixing. Yes?
Knock yourself out.
No wishing physical damage on other PPCers! (And your stupid bucket o' water gave me a concussion anyway, remember? Knocking myself unconscious would be a Very Bad Thing to do with a concussion.)
You wound me. That hurts, implying I'd ever want to see somebody hurt! ..Weeell, apart from Sues. And the occasional Author whose work is bad enough that I wish they were deader than Horus. But apart from that, neh.
You may find this helpful.

Happy writing!
There are no PPC Higher Ups.
...Well, you said to repeat after you...
IT really does. Don't fret, we all have to figure stuff out when we first get here. Just part of the learning process.
And so are we all!
(But really, Riese, you were the one who replied with "The oldbies say it's okay." I saw that. :P)
You saw nothing. I didn't post anything about any oldbie anything. Nothing to see here, these aren't the droids you're looking for, move along.
That is all.
W-what are you t-talking about? I d-didn't do anything...
*whistles*
Pantalones del fuego!
(Yes, I just copied Dr. Doofenschmirtz. WHAT.)
Ahm...Guys? I...I think we may have a sliiiiiight problem here.....
*sneaks out the door and runs for the RC*
Problem? There's no problem here. -'nother creepy smile-
Whee, I like tormenting people~!
*Nails Kitty with a bucket of water I pulled out of the Hammerspace in my Dresden duster*
There. No more fire. *sticks tongue out at Kit*
Ah, but now I have a bucket...and also a concussion...Ow...
That sounds like a good idea - as active as the Board's been, they're probably watching it a bit more frequently. Or as frequently as ever. -shrugs-
The Powers that Be (Not the Flowers, the Oldbies) aren't against it. Wikify to your heart's content, guys/gals!
You take the lead, I shall follow along helpfully.
I see what you mean; this one certainly DOES have potential, doesn't it, then? "I'll text you if anyone starts to trail us."
Texting. In 19th Century England. *Cocks shotgun*
Also, the MC seems a tad Sue-ish.
Yeah, I'd definitely keep an eye on this one.
I should have stated the situation clearly. This is BBC Sherlock, a modern adaptation of Sherlock Holmes. It is a popular television show. The fic has many errors, but the mobile isn't one of them.
I'm afraid I am sadly unfamiliar with this adaptation. Does Sherlock habitually refer to everyone by their first name, too?
I dunno if this is the case with the BBC Sherlock, but I know that in the original Conan Doyle work, the only woman Holmes ever cared about was the one from "A Scandal in Bohemia." And the only reason he cared about her was purely professional admiration; she was the only person ever to "beat" him.
TL;DR, Holmes doesn't give a rip about any woman who can't beat him at his own game.
So we can conclude that any 'fics that include Sherlock falling in love with/caring about/giving the time of day to any OC means he's rather thoroughly OOC, then?
The whole thing sounds like one huge badfic. I get the feeling that if one was to point a CAD at Mr. Holmes, it's have an aneurism.
It's a little ways down the board. The Sue made Sherlock grow queasy at a crime scene. This is definitely at least 53% out of character and climbing.
Yeah, I read it. Didn't really have much to say that others hadn' already, but...yeah.
This particular fandom is lacking one so far.
You're bound to find one that fits.
The older Boarders used to send newbies off to read the LB's as a sort of Rite of Passage. I must've killed at least two or three bottles of Bleeprin on C***br**n alone, let alone the others.
The Boarders of the PPC have far too much integrity to ever engage in such wanton cruelty to fresh-faced new members of our illustrious community even if their reactions are - I mean would be - hilarious.
hS
...To avoid being caught off-gaurd by any 'helpful' suggestions to read it and see what the PPC deals with.
I got through two-thirds of it before I burst into tears, broke the 'X' button on my Internet window, and spent the next three or four days watching and reading wholesome, canonical Lord of the Rings.
I'm glad I didn't know about Bleepuvor at that point - hallucinating about Elrond scolding me for OD'ing on the stuff might have broken my mind...
Is that even possible?
I'm surprised we haven't been hazed with a dose of Dipper Goes to Taco Bell. I read My Immortal two or three years back, but I still have quite a few legendaries to knock out.
Don't feel obligated to read them. Honestly, there are a few (C***b***n ESPECIALLY) that are genuinely okay-bro-roll-for-SAN-loss bad.
Also, if you look up-thread a bit, Kitty wants you to do the Wiki article.
I should not have attached that line to the end.
