Oh dear, brace yourselves.
The modern version of Sherlock Holmes can be very mercurial. He tends to go with what comes naturally to him. In most cases this means he is blunt, condescending, and unable to understand the sensitivity of other's. He is willing to show off for anyone, and shows many traits similar to those with Asperger's Syndrome; however, these are exaggerated for entertainment purposes. He shows less compassion than even the original character, and refers to himself as a highly functioning sociopath. This does not seem to fit his psychological profile, so we'll chalk that up to his many years of being called a freak. He tends to tell people to shut up when they aren't talking, derive enjoyment from petty revenge, and act like a prodigal six year old. All of this is an integral part of his personality, and yet many fangirls idolise him anyway. Subsequently, many get it into their heads that their Mary Sues can change him for he better.
This has been a rant on the characterisation of BBC universe's Sherlock. Have a nice day, and please do take our complimentary bag of peanuts.
