A Tolkien language expert sure is useful here. And I hope you'll get permission one day.
Here, have a folding car as a welcoming gift. Careful, it tends to unfold itself randomly. Do not put it near fragile things. And do not poke it either. One did it, and the car nearly unfolded on him.
And I'm still figuring out your posting system. It's weird. Very mid-90's. Not that retro is bad or anything.
I'm a Tolkien nerd. I have a website that some of you may know: Merin Essi ar Quenteli! I'm a linguist, and my focus is the languages of Middle-earth, specifically all of the dialects of Sindarin. I also dabble in Quenya, but only a little.
I also speak French and Japanese, though most of my French is long forgotten at this point.
I also know a little bit of Anglo-Saxon.
I was recently reprimanded for writing a PPC-fic 4 years ago without permission. Sorry about that. I didn't realize that this is such a closed world.

Minis are created from a misspelling of a canon character, so a mini-Darkside's name should look more like Kairy or Xemnis, rather than just being a given name. Just for future reference.

(I only recognize some Japanese due to my younger brother and the anime I watch, I can usually guess on French but Elvish and Anglo-Saxon? Wow.) We're all happy to see you here obviously. :] (And the posting system threw me off for a while too, but you'll get used to it pretty quickly.)
I actually studied Spanish in Middle School. I just remember a little counting and basic greetings, along with "Donde estan mes pantalones?" That's sure to come in handy some day, right?

As someone who has been dabbling with Anglo-Saxon and Old Norse elements for the purposes of world flavor, I am interested in where you picked up what you know. I'm not a linguist myself, more of an armchair etymologist, but still. {= )
I am wondering who went so far as to reprimand you for writing PPC stuff without Permission. Usually we settle for more of a "Hey, did you know?" and an invitation to this place. Especially since you say it was written four years ago.
I wouldn't call it a closed world, either, seeing as what we want most is for the people who want to write PPC stuff to join up and get to know us. We want folks in, not out. {= )
This may or may not help with using the Board. One thing it doesn't mention, for instance, is that you can use regular HTML in your posts like I just did. The wiki in general is full of useful information, though if there's something you can't find, just shout out. Somebody will point you in the right direction and/or fix it.

What I know of Anglo-Saxon is pretty limited. I took a class on the history and structure of English, which involved memorizing a passage from the Old Testament in Anglo-Saxon and Middle English. I know basic syntax and that clauses are mostly inflection/agreement clauses. I can manage things with basic grammar if given enough time, and I can sound out words like a pro, but that's about it.
It was a light reprimand. Your description sounds accurate.

I would hunt down the rest of it: it's difficult to appreciate minimalist music if you don't listen to the whole thing. (It goes on for about an hour more after that. Somehow, it doesn't get boring.) Plus, it's Steve Reich, who's one of the best of the minimalists right now.

I'm getting to that place where I'm learning how to write music reasonably well. Crazy times are had with that.

BTW, where can I find a good resource on Old English?
I'm not well versed in the online sources, but there are plenty of books written on it. I use my notes from my structure and history of English class.
After a quick look-about, this looks like a pretty good basic guide. If you want to go in-depth into it, I'm pretty sure the only way is to take a dictionary, pick up some Old English texts, and translate until you're comfortable with the language.
When choosing a dictionary, make certain it has grammatical markings with every word, the gender (if it's a noun) if it's weak or strong (for verbs). If it doesn't have such markings, then it will be very difficult to translate properly, and you'll know that the material was probably put together by an amateur who doesn't know much about Old-English.

Total respect for knowing all of those languages. I'm almost fluent in French and have tried for a long time to learn Sindarian, but real life has always got in the way.
I've gotten chocolate, fudge, and hot cocoa.
If you want to learn Sindarin, I did write a textbook. I'll be accepting applications for the next semester soon, if you're interested.
For dead languages, I don't know how to speak them as much as I know how to use resources on them efficiently.
