I'm making sure people in RL don't know about my LJ (well, there's a guy in the scifi club at uni I'm thinking of introducing to the PPC, but he's nice, so ...) for the same reason.
Would it really get you any worse trouble than some funny looks, though? I don't really see how what you do in your spare time is his business. -

No, they can't *do* anything about it, but it would make me look bad in the eyes of the old men that I have to work with and need to learn from.

I have a similar problem with my MSTing of a fic involving lemony bits with an underage character. If it was illegal to do that someone would have told me so by now, and given that A) the characters are blatantly fictional, B) I didn't write the fic in question and I said so, C) the reason I'm quoting it is to point out how bad the writing is and I made it abundantly clear that that was the reason, D) nobody arrested Stephen King for that scene in "It", I REALLY don't think it'd have any legal repercussions other than possibly "oi, stop copy-pasting other peoples' work" and given that it's a fanfic even that doesn't really apply, but I'd still like to keep it away from people who would give me funny looks over it, like my student counsellor.

I got scolded for talking about work on a LiveJournal during my internship last summer. It could have been worse--it could have been a real job--and this is a slightly different situation, but I still feel your pain. Hopefully it won't come to anything major. *hug*

... I have to work with him, and will do for the rest of my life. NZ geology and palaeontology isn't such a big field that I can risk making a huge deal of this. It's best to just let it blow over, which I am doing. If he and I fell out over it, not only would I end up losing a mate (yes, a mate who's currently being a dickhead, I know) but also a potential collaborator and someone who would then in the future probably be in the right place to, if he so chose, reject any of my academic papers that came his way for review. Not that I think he *would*, but it's worth bearing in mind.
I appreciate the sentiment a lot, just so you know. But duck and cover is still my best option :) -

No need for confuzzlement, Sedri dear. Nothing's disappearing from the lj, it's just all being flocked. And since Trojie's got you friended, that means you can still get at everything. See, it'll work fine.

But "re-" is an acceptable prefix for a word - "friends-" is not. So it (or its abbrevated form, "f") needs a hyphen to attach it to the second word. Says me.

I'd break out the shotgun by way of argument, but I am too distracted by the sudden realisation that there are only four more posts to sort out and then the fic journal is done and I can sleep.

But couldn't you set up different LJ accounts instead of Dreamwidth? That way we could continue linking back and forth and having you on f-lists. You'd just need to wait a while so he doesn't trace back to you through us as mutual friends.

I've never used it either. Got an account but never needed it. Only one of my contacts has switched over to dw, and they've got their flist imported so I miss nothing, which is how I know that's possible. At any rate, I'm going to be thrown in at the deep end as soon as the import's finished, because there's going to be a lot of tidying up to do.

I can make it do that. Or rather, Pads can, at the moment, because she's being a star and sort of doing the organising, as well as having gone through and helped me lock every single post to my LJ, because my brain has gone flurgy

Incidentally, I cannot wait for the day lj introduces blanket privacy setting options. One should not have to manually go through each post.

It only affects future posts. This is why, if you look at my lj when you're not logged in, aside from a few random posts it looks like I've been utterly silent since 2006 - couldn't be bothered to go back and flock all those posts. Must get round to that one day.

By the way, I just logged out of LJ, and there are three posts not locked - I assume you're getting to them, but just in case, they are:

Jun. 11th, 2008 at 7:22 PM
Jan. 8th, 2008, 9:50 PM
Good luck. :(
