Yes, pizza is a dish that takes much of its influence from Italy, but the dish itself is an American one! It was a modification by Italian-American immigrants in the Northeast (depending on your bias, New York, New Haven, or, from one person I know, Providence) from pita in the 1930s – and, just FYI, the tomato is native to Central America, and wasn't even present in Europe until well into the Columbian exchange, because Europeans thought it was poisonous. So any dish based on tomatoes (or corn, or potatoes, or turkeys...) can sorta be said to be necessarily partly American in origin.
