Hey there Emilia! I'm Twistey, a lightly-used-bie with too many fandoms and too many ideas. I write a combo of fanfic and original worlds (mostly original), absolutely love MSTing and otherwise reacting to things, and have actually lost friends to my fervent insistence on fanfiction excellence. True story.
Anyway, enough about me, who are you? How'd you find us, what fandoms are you into, etc. I'm interested to know more (I think all of us are.)
And finally, your newbie gift! Currently I'm feeling ready to kick the butts of some blonde villains (and the blonde heroines of some franchises that show obvious favoritism - but why I'm in this mood is another story for another day), so here, you can have a virtual version of my BJ Blazkowicz cosplay outfit, and a nerf gun that resembles Wolfenstein 3D's Chain Gun as well. Your virtual self or your agents may be equipped with this gift. Use it wisely.
Anyway, nice to meet you! I hope you have a great time here. Welcome to the PPC!

Just a post to commemorate Remembrance Weekend, and to remember all those who have given their lives in both World Wars and all conflicts past and present.
Also to remember that it is the centenary of the Battle of Passchendaele, and to honour all those who gave their lives in that battle.

"An additional psychic on hand would lessen the risks significantly," he said. "If Derik would give me his hand, we may begin, provided you have numbweed on hand."
Tom shrugged. "Sounds fine to me."

- Oh cool, you were recruited by a friend! I've been looking to recruit people for a while, but have not succeeded yet...
2. Hehe, nice! Those are indeed the basics, I guess! Hmm, what's that original novel about? Sounds interesting.
3. It's totally fine that Celestar isn't from any fandom! Sounds like he does fit the PPC very well, but would work even better if he had a partner who was a lot more serious than him or something. (By the way, don't ever change his name. The name "Celestar" sounds really epic and LotR-esque, and given his personality, it's also lovably ironic as a result.)
4. Ooh! Which game's soundtrack are you a fan of? (Probably something from Return to Castle Wolfenstein onwards, given how low-bit music is just a little harder to appreciate...) If you're planning on joining the fandom, The Gaming Historian has a great video series on YouTube about the history of the franchise, explaining each of the games, and it's a good resource for finding out where to start. I recommend finding an online emulator (or a downloadable emulator, your choice) of Wolfenstein 3D and playing that one first, since it'll help boost your appreciation for all the other ones. I personally know that 3d.wolfenstein.com/ is the official one, and wolf3d.atw.hu/ is the one I've been using and it comes with the Spear of Destiny DLC. But be forewarned that there are some pretty hard bosses, even on the easiest difficulty. I should probably stop rambling about Wolfenstein now...

If you find yourself going through an author's profile - or worse, multiple profiles on different sites - to see how much of their stuff is bad... then you're singling out that author, whether you say you are or not. Stop and step away; we're not really the fanfiction police, and we have no obligation to list every badfic we see.
If, on the other hand, you find that three different fics you peg as bad are by the same person - maybe they're one of the only writers for a specific minor character, or they write lots of crossovers of two specific fandoms - fine. You didn't seek out their stuff specifically - you analysed each story as you found it. And that's okay.

I know at least three, maybe four or five, authors who post nothing but Mary Sue fanfiction on their accounts, and I'm worried that pointing it out will get me yelled at for singling out certain authors.
In my opinion, if anyone else finds an account that they want to do more than one story from, they should limit themselves to two stories from that account. Does that sound good?

I'll find a way to put the stained glass to use!
I discovered you guys, almost by accident, while browsing TV Tropes one day. I read a few missions and ended up getting hooked.
As for my fandoms...I watch a LOT of animated shows, listing them would probably take too long...I'm also part of the Pokemon, Marvel Cinematic Universe, Calvin and Hobbes, Assassination Classroom, and Sky High fandoms. I'm also a borderline FNaF fan (I've never played the games, but I keep up on the lore).

"Ugh," Gall groaned in exasperation. "Quit sulking and give over already, or I'll come over there and 'fix' it."
That prospect was alarming enough to shake him. "All right! Do what you're going to do. I don't care who."
"Drama queen," Gall grumbled.
"Shut up!"
He held his hand out a little way, and that was enough for Jenni to seize the opportunity, and it. Derik gritted his teeth through her examination. At a particular wince, she nodded grimly.
"Uh-huh. Fifth metacarpal neck fracture. I'm not surprised." She sighed. "The Flowers still get twitchy if I do anything too overtly supernatural, so here's what I propose: I slather this with numbweed, your buddy Thoth drives the psychic bone-setting engine, and I keep a hand on the steering wheel just in case. Is that all right with everyone?"
(( I know Ix could probably do it, but I wanna make the mutually-slightly-distrustful psychics collaborate. ∗puppy eyes∗(( ... Do you think the Ironic Overpower counts as a Chaos god? ))

My newbie gift for you is a bunch of pieces of stained glass that, erm, definitely didn't used to be a window with a picture of a certain "embodiment of evil" in a certain castle in Germany! (Yeah, Wolfenstein 3D is a big fandom of mine.) Feel free to make a new, less creepy picture out of them.

Does anyone else have opinions on what to do when we find multiple badfics by the same author at the same time, or even an author who hasn't written anything but badfic? Because I think I may know another example, but I don't want to also be seen as "singling out" by folks like Iximaz who (if I'm interpreting this correctly) are concerned that it'll be more about the author and less about the fics if something like that happens.

If the PPC were a real-life group and not an online thing, I would say that I'd love to meet your parents. But since it's online, that's not a good thing to want. So I will content myself with knowing your parents must be absolutely amazing.
(Wait! Hey, that's another thing I got from fiction! Watching kids a performance of the play "She Kills Monsters" is helping get me back into tabletop role playing!)

"If you would like me to fix it, for Charlotte's sake, I am quite capable. The Great Ocean surrounding Headquarters is extremely calm. In fact, since the... retcon, I believe it was called, I am not entirely certain it is even the same Great Ocean across all dimensions. If The Four are present, they are far less powerful here."
Tom sighed. "All the same, I wouldn't risk it myself. But it's your choice, Derik."
((I THINK that's accurate. The Warps of Fantasy and 40k were severed, so it doesn't cross dimensions anymore.))

Charlotte folded her arms uncomfortably. "You and Ix both, actually? Because I haven't fed in a while and the smell of blood is making me really thirsty. I'd rather not turn this Halloween party into a full-fledged horror show."
Ix blanched and hurriedly pulled out her wand to heal her own hands. "I'm so sorry, Lottie, I didn't even think—"
"It's fine," Charlotte said. "You've been a bit distracted, that's all."

Derik just scowled at Charlotte and turned himself around again, holding his swollen right hand to his chest.
Jenni couldn't take it anymore and knelt by his left side, one hand on his shoulder. "Would you please let me do something with that?" she murmured, sotto voce. "Or Ix? Or him, even?" She pointed her eyes at Thoth. She didn't trust the idea of 40K warp-sorcery at all—and that was the way she imagined the Astartes had meant to help—but she'd force down her own raised hackles if it got the job done.
Derik would have preferred to be left alone entirely at the moment, and only felt more humiliated by the nurse's concern for his idiotic self-injury. Shockingly, it turned out that punching a wall, even with a mirror on it, might not have been such a good idea after all, but he'd be dashed if he was going to admit it when he'd already been made to look a fool. He leaned away and growled something incoherent along the lines of "push off."
Willfully oblivious to this by-play, Gall turned back to Thoth. "So, before that hilarious interruption, I asked you a question. Got a story for us, or do you admit that I'm rocking your sad, repressed world?" She grinned at him, well aware of exactly how full of it she was.

"You're a Thousand Son. That title comes with the territory."
((Got your email, Nesh. I responded in my typically overly-dramatic fashion, going into the highlights of what the fic did Horribly Horribly Wrong from the 40k side of things.))

"Right then!" Charlotte clapped her hands together. "I probably shouldn't forget my manners. Charlotte Webb, Ix's partner. Hello!"

I can't think of anything specific I've learned directly from fiction, but I can think of lots of things I've learned because of fiction. HTML, for example. I originally taught myself HTML to help out some friends of mine from a Farscape fan forum. I've maintained and sharpened my coding skills over the years because of RP interests and the PPC, which all goes back to fiction. I'd be an inanimate husk without a soul full of stories.

The answer to your question is the latter, basically because of what Twistey said: Sues don't play by the rules.
A metaphor springs to mind. Normally, your immune system lets you fight off infections the way your main character normally throws off mind control. However, certain viruses mess with your very DNA in order to disrupt the immune system, and then you can get sick. Sues mess with the DNA of a canon, i.e. its Words, so your main character may be susceptible to malign influences they otherwise might not be.
I'm sure it's not a perfect metaphor, but I hope it makes sense!
