The PPC Posting Board - Latest posts

Pardon me, that thing jumped at me like a shock site.

That was back in January 2022, and featured the words "I uh. Haven't even gone by Larfen in a while." Previous posts in September 2021 are also as Larfen, with no indication of a change. Prior to that we're at the 2021 Shipfest when she was running under they/them (as Larfen).

Which means we're in a situation where someone's latest chosen name may have only existed for four months, appears nowhere in the permanent record, and in fact they reverted to using their previous Board name when posting to said record after the change, with no mention of the change. I'm not really comfortable changing the Wiki (which has a userpage as Larfen!) & my reference chart to something that nobody who wasn't on the Discord in a ~3 month period at the end of 2021 will ever be able to recognise.

I'll take a look at these in the morning and hopefully get to writing the needed intro piece before the crime boys can start doing their thing. And hopefully realize I only need a handful of minor characters to fill the place out, and not several dozen or anything.

I've fixed the "Minor Gods" link - it got eaten by Google. It's here now.

I've also added the link to Empire State of Mind, which is what you really need; I think it's the only actual appearance of the Morning Glory. Between those two pieces you should get a pretty good feel for what she's like.

I'm fine with you telling her; it was mostly a one-off gag. And if you need to cameo Sambar as Finance's resident conspiracy theorist, feel free.

For people not in the Discord, or who haven't checked the Writing channel there lately, I'm in the planning stages for a new pair in Finance. My kind of ultimate working goal right now is getting to a narrative point where one can start trying to write very mild, very safe badfic for the express purpose of looting it. He'll get in some trouble for it, but that's not the part I want input on.

That trouble is going to take him to the office of the Morning Glory, who, on the wiki, is listed as potentially not knowing she's the temporary head of Finance. She'll definitely be aware by the end of this. So my question is: are people alright with that change? And since she only has two listed appearances, are there any strong opinions on how she should respond to such a thing, or do I have pretty free reign on that front?

EDIT: One of said two appearances, Minor Gods, has a restricted link now that it's been published. I don't know who to talk to about that but I'm gonna assume Nesh.

I'm actually fine with Markdown most of the time, and I know how to \escape it when I want to do things like *this.* {= )

The big thing, literally, is the excessively large font of blockquotes like this one:

Blockquotes really take over a post, and they shouldn't.

I think someone told me at some point that changing the appearance of these would be difficult, but I don't remember why, and it seems to me it ought to be a pretty simple CSS fix. So...?

Speaking of Markdown, though, a thing I've remembered just now: could we have the formatting guide open in a new tab by default? And maybe all external links in general?

After making and adding a height chart for my agents to their spin-off page, I suppose it'd be fun too for all of us to make our own charts for our agents as well. The generator is heightcomparison.com which supports both metric and Imperial; so, how tall are your agents?

It's a way for people to get updates about websites by sending them a title, description, and link to the content. You can subscribe to an RSS feed for blogs and such and get those updates in your email.

The Discord Latest Posts bot would do something similar -- automated posts in the server about when someone has posted something on the Board.

I'll also say I think I had a slightly easier keeping track of all the plot threads then in some of the previous chapters, but maybe that's just because things were converging some.

So, I'm not entirely certain what an RSS feed is, exactly. It might be nice to get alerts but I don't know entirely what that would entail. Other than that, I just want to tell the Board Improvers that I'm super grateful for all your work on this, seriously.

Last I recalled, the Soap formerly known as Larfen last posted to the Board explaining something about Harry Potter vis-a-vis the Blacklist. I could be wrong, though.

(Hopefully the naming bit there isn’t offensive; I do know that Soap was mostly posting to Discord under that name so searching the Board for her current name won’t be effective; hopefully this clears it up in future searches!)

According to the Discord backlogs, she was last seen in December saying, and I quote, "theyve made amongus real!!!!!!!!!!!"

She did pop in here on the Board in January, though. I think? It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure.

During the posting of the PG election thread to the Discord, there was some discussion about potential board improvements. As such, it was decided that we should have a proper board thread about this after the election ended. As the election has now ended, I am writing this post.

Currently existing thoughts on board improvement (that I actually remember) are as follows:

1. Discord integration. Some users find it difficult to remember to check the board, but are active on Discord. As such, the idea was raised to essentially provide latest posts directly to the Discord, by auto-posting updates about the newest posts to some kind of #board-posts channel or something. This is convenient for people who are on discord and want to be notified of board activity without configuring an RSS feed for it (which, by the way, if you're not on the discord but want to get a stream of the latest board posts for perusal at your convenience... we do actually have a feed for exactly that purpose).
2. Flat thread view. The traditional Board thread layout of nested response subthreads is great. However, it's not so great for some PPCers with small displays, vision impairment, or both (and also works poorly for deeply nested threads, as the entire layout begins to drift steadily rightwards... For these and several other reasons, a proposal arose to allow for an optional "conventional forum" thread view. In this view, messages would be displayed in chronological order, and which message was replying to what would be shown through backlinks (that is, links back to the prior message).
3. Markdown options? This was raised by Nesh while we were on a train through Chicago (yes, Gathering Report needs to be written up... hopefully that will happen at some point soon, we've all been a bit busy). Some boarders have typing habits that conflict with Markdown's markup, or might otherwise not want to use markdown for a given post. As such, we may want to add the ability to check a box to disable Markdown when writing a post.

As this is a general Improvement thread, if there's something you want to see changed about the board or a feature you'd like to have, please let us know! Obviously, I don't think I or anyone else can promise anything gets implemented (the T-Board Technical Committee is full of very busy people, alas), but we can see about getting in the things that people want to have.

• I like the overall effects the words have on the word world, such as the capitals in every word making things very tall, and the canons acting like glitchy 3D models in a badly animated gmod video.
• I also like how the lack of description in some places, like the mess in the kitchen, made for an exaggerated scene.
• The scene where the characters in the fic turned into Olaf was appropriately creepy.
• "shredding tears", just makes me laugh!
• The exorcism was anticlimactic and I love it!

Overall, it's awesome!

Because the in-Plort reason is the knights on the Gamer side forbid me from entering there.

The actual reason is because I can't join Voice chat because my phone is dumb lol.

Just "Soup"? I'm asking because she wasn't officially just "Larf", so I want to check.
