while it is true that the extra reach is not necessary for a stealth kill, but it is certainly practical to have in case things go south. I also aware of the impracticality of large weapons in a stealth situation, but the katana isn't exactly a large weapon; the blade is usually from 60 to 73 cm long depending on time period (some are longer, it really depends on the user). If one includes the hilt, they come in at about 90 to 110 cm, which translates to about 35.43 to 43.3 inches. That is shorter than most recurve bows iirc, and recurve bows are manageable in a stealth situation. You might be confusing a katana for a tachi or nodachi perhaps?
