I don't see how this is going to end up well...
I found a crossover-in-the-making on DeviantART a while back that seems slightly familiar (well, certain canons do, along with the multicrossover aspect):
universescollideinc deviantart com
Do any of you recognize this/is it worth looking into? They have three writers, and they all seem to be in their 20s. Nothing seems to have been written yet, but the idea's all spelled out in journals and profile comments. There's also an original race, but that seems to be in order...
Seriously, they've been working on this for years, and that takes serious dedication. Gotta admire that.
I don't have a DA account of my own, so I can't talk to them myself. ^^;
*Is timid*
These people have a naming system like Erin Hunter in Warriors, only less awesome. And besides that...
How in the holy name of Xerneas is a Celebi/anything hybrid possible?? (Though the Celebi/Shaymin fusion pic looks quite nice.) It's like she doesn't even know they're in the UNDISCOVERED EGG GROUP!
Monitor the other fandoms, terminate any stories featuring the Pokemon characters. With. Prejudice.
I don't see how this is going to end up well...
That might end up being close to an all hands on deck kind of thing.
But how many people would mission this, honestly?
Or how many would it require?
(And not drag the authors into it, I'd hope? >.> )
More so if it were completed and missioned, there are just so many parts that there would likely need to be multiple people to tackle all the mess. But I don't think it will be needed. It largely looks like it was discontinued at this point.
If it's too complicated to spork then it's not worth it.
A fic like this is just too complicated to pull off. It would require too many Untanglers, Assassins and Floaters.
...is that it seemed like prime badfic material (And a good place for a co-write, no less), I shouldn't blabber. ^^;
I'm just gentler than the average PPCer, it seems - I haven't the spark to spork/outright hate a work.
(Oh, sure, I'll snarl if certain favorite continua are included, but I won't bite the author or tell them that they suck. I just keep cooped up, and find better things to read.)
That many continua at once. There is a guarantee something will go horribly wrong. But do you have a link to any of the stories? I would like that before judging.
Look how many continua the PPC crosses over with. And has that gone horribly wrong?
It is not a guarantee, but the more moving parts something have, the more likely it is for something to go wrong. Potentially horribly. Kind of like an engine.
We're good at this. Them? I am getting a distinct impression to the contrary.
As I don't know anything about any of the continuities involved, I've got no way of judging what - if anything - they're doing wrong. From my point of view, it looks as if you're being pessimistic and assuming it's all going to go wrong without giving any reasons why it makes you feel that way.
OK, that's not quite fair. You menyioned something about hybrids or something, but this is a crossover. In story terms, is there any good reason why (for example) scientists from one universe couldn't use advanced techniques from all the different universes to create new, previously-unknown hybrids of creatures from another universe? (OTOH if the hybrids just somehow magically exist, with no explanation, then yes, it is bad. But until the story's written, there's no reason except pure pessimism for assuming that.)
Legendaries cannot breed.
JSYK.
Or, indeed, DNA-analogous structures?
If so, mix in a bit of Jurassic Park technology, and you can make any hybrid you want. Ingen managed to mix amphibian DNA into stem-bird DNA and create a viable creature with aspects of each - I'm sure they can do the same with Pokemon!

It's derived from a Legendary, and, didn't you hear? Legendaries don't breed. ^_~

All I can say is, whoever made him is really bad at cloning.
Or maybe really good... I mean, cloning consists of taking adult DNA (Mew's) and putting it into a viable egg. (In mammals that's an egg cell, which also needs to be implanted into a surrogate, but Pokemon are egg-layers.) Since we know Mew can't breed, it can't have eggs (that whole 'laid an egg' thing is clearly a misreading). So where did they get the egg?
The answer is obvious: Mewtwo is an inadvertent hybrid between Mew and another, yet-unidentified Pokemon. Comparison time!
Compared to Mew, Mewtwo has:
-A more pronounced tail/stomach.
-Longer and more round-ended fingers and toes.
-Shoulder armour.
-Squarer ears.
-More height and longer limbs.
-A more pronounced neck.
-A blockier head.
What Pokemon could be the source of those? Let's see, if we limit ourselves to Kanto... well, Clefable looks promising. It's got the ears, the tail, the fingers. But no neck. Let's keep looking... the Abra lineage would give the shoulder stuff, ears, height, neck... most of it, actually.
So there we have it. Mew's DNA was implanted into an Abra egg. Clearly, a ruthless scientist stole an Abra's egg (remember, no-one knew Pokemon laid eggs at this point), mucked about with it, and claimed it was Mew's; no-one picked up on the similarities to Kadabra/Alakazam because, well, Abra are annoying as heck to get hold of. They'd never seen one.

There's proof that at least Mew can breed, is just that trainers aren't allowed to, due to game mechanics.
Manaphy, though the egg it lays hatches into Phanapy, which doesn't evolve, so there's some debate among the fans as to whether or not it counts.
Also, in the games at least, going through the Cinnabar Island laboratory, you come across old journals and things the scientists trying to clone Mew left behind. One of them mentioned that Mew laid an egg.
Legendary Pokemon can breed.
They just suck at it.
Seriously, one produces mutant babies every time, another is apparently prone to Amazonogenesis. How badly wrong do you think the other pairings would go?
...
...
... ohallright.
Actually, you know what I'd pay money to see? Arceus/Giratina.
You're welcome.
*wanders off for brain bleach*
The coffers at Castle Kwenaya are running a bit low, what with the theft secession loss of Critta-Kalthin, and the considerable costs of moving the Cyclopaedia to- ah, but that's a secret.
I think the Bad Slashers just felt a chill. XD
And shaddap, I already said Lady Iximaz would e willing to provide that sand you wanted.
Speaking of the Cyclopædia, you still want help getting a Wiki set up and whatnot?
Operation Sherbet Rain is currently in the planning/feasibility stages; once I've got the technical details sorted out, I'll throw something your way.
(Sand is all very lovely, but he'd much rather have the taxes and trade as well. ;))
hS
Everyone I've talked to has been pretty excited for it.
And alrighty, I'm ready whenever you need me. *brain falls into the gutter*
Because this sort of thing takes time.

Plus, if we went straight to June, I'd be missing my birthday, and that would be sad.
It hasn't been posted yet. :/
Of course, with at least three years and three authors (and therefore at least one designated beta) behind it, you'd think we could hope for the best.
Alas, that seems to be all we can do. >:[And these are twenty-somethings here! Badfic has no designated age range, of course, but still, it's disheartening.]
No, sorry, my mistake, that thing purports to be a Houndoom.
haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate
I picked it for their writing, not their drawings - they even admit (further down the page) that they can't draw as well as they write. I'll withhold judgement until after I can see the fic. :}
That, and the drawing's definitely old - it says 2013 in the date.
If this is the approach they're taking to Pokémon canon, I dread to think what horrors they're inflicting on everything else!
I just had a look at their OCs.
The folder for their OC art is titled, and I quote:-
"Orinigal [sic] Universe OCs"
Now, leaving aside the tautology, I don't trust someone's writing skills when they can't spell as basic a word as that. Sorry, I just don't. =[
Breathe, Cassie, remember to breathe...
(hatehatehatehatehate)
Oh, and the patterns are just... weird. And clashing. And occasionally you get godless creatures like the hybrid Beautifly/Delcatty aberration and OH SWEET MERCIFUL ARCEUS IS THAT A HYBRID MOLTRES/ARTICUNO LEGENDARIES CAN'T EVEN BREED HOW DOES THIS EXIST SOMEONE MAKE IT NOT EXIST-
*collapses on the floor in a puddle of her own furious mouth-froth*
Oh, DeviantArt. Never change.
