I don't know how we can celebrate that, I'm just… putting it out here.

I'm kind of freaking out about school starting because I'm dual-enrolled in high school and college at the same time, and my mom wants me to take extra classes. Don't get me wrong, my mom is awesome and she just wants me to do my best at school, but what with all this covid-induced craziness and school starting in about two weeks and everything else happening in my life, I just feel kind of overwhelmed. I'm sorry if it's all ended up with me having about as much patience as a sugar-high fanbrat writing bad Legomances.

I don't know the fandom, but self-translating your own fanfic is impressive. I'm currently trying to learn Spanish, but I probably don't know enough to translate my fanfic. If I tried, it would probably take me a very long time and the translation would probably end up with lots of mistakes in it.

But I hope French and German will do, so Merci beacoup and Danke.

"getting this Permission business out of the way" is not exactly a great look for Permission Givers when they do come by to look at your Permission request. Most PGs here that I am aware of are adults, and their jobs and families come before checking the Board. Telling them that you're in a rush to get Permission whilst demonstrating a lack of understanding of basic PPC concepts -- that the Words are what cause strange things to happen in missions, or what mini-Discords look like -- does not give the community much confidence that you understand what we're about.

It also took me two attempts to get Permission back in the day, and the second time very much coincided with school starting up again. I'm pretty sure at the time I was also just as impatient. But Permission does not expire with inactivity, so I'd recommend you sit back and take your time. Try reading through more missions and the Wiki and focus on your schoolwork. This Board is not going to grow legs and walk away if you stop posting on it -- I would know, since I keep dipping in and out of it with years of inactivity in between!

Please don't take this harshly. I'm sure you've got lots of ideas in store for when you get Permission, but looking impatient is really only going to make people more reluctant to give you what you want.

I probably won't get on the Board much during school, or my parents will get snarky because I have a tendency to procrastinate. So I'm hoping to get this whole Permission buisness out of the way before then.

I am a Christian, and in my opinion, I don't mind it too much if people make jokes about Christianity. I like puns especially, which may be because my church's priest makes puns constantly.

WolfQuill said that they would beta for me, but I haven't heard from them since they said that they would beta for me. I don't really use email for communication, so the Board or commenting via Google Docs would be a better option for me. I mostly write for LOTR and Narnia, but if this changes, I will tell you. Also, I don't do missions for slash. I have finished rewriting my second Permission Request, and I would like someone to look over it. I am hoping to post it to the Board by August 29th or 30th at the latest because school is starting and I won't have time for PPC stuff.

I think I mentioned a flat, but "suburban-style American housing" can be extended into small apartment buildings of like 2+ bedrooms (and I know this on account of having lived in suburban American apartments :P) or converted houses.

I actually glanced around holiday cottages in New Cal on Airbnb, so I do know a bungalow with a big backyard is feasible for the area. Liu Siyuan is a bit exacting on his aesthetics, though, and would probably want something less French or American-looking. A thatched-roof bungalow with an open porch that can be screened in by sliding paper screens (giving more of a Japanese look, but ancient Chinese architecture would probably not blend as easily with the surroundings) would be ideal for him. I actually did some drawings, though... hypothetical spoilers?

It should be 1 story, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, facing South/East, mostly open-plan, probably feng shui'd within an inch of its life. So I guess putting it in the French Quarter would work?

And as for Dafydd trying to plant mellyrn, the arboretum workers (I know one in particular would have opinions on this, since I'm writing her) would like to remind him that there are many endangered species of pine here in New Cal and that planting invasive species like mellyrn may have consequences for the local flora :P

... until the kids catch on. "But you have to let us go to the Arboretum, Mom! It's on your road!"

From north to south, residences available in New Cal are probably:

• Hobbit holes up on le Loup.

• Old (by New Cal standards) farmhouses around the farmlands, where these aren't just hobbit holes.

• American-style suburban houses in the American Quarter. Digory Kirke is in the midst of these. Given that they were built ad-hoc by the agents who first lived in them, there's room for variation on "American" (it's a Weed who used the term, so she's not overly familiar). A cottage like the one you mention could sit on the edge somewhere.

• Apartments over some of the shops in the city centre.

• Hotels/motels in the city centre, including larger villas to rent and thatched huts on the northern slopes.

• Probably some ex-hotel buildings converted into apartments.

• Local-style houses in the French Quarter, the largest block of residences. It's surprisingly difficult to find pictures of regular houses in New Cal - Google mostly shows apartment blocks and hotels - but we've taken a lot of influence from the French Quarter in Pondicherry. Flattish or even thatched roofs, overhanging to shade the front door, possibly with columns to make an open porch. A lot of the houses are single-storey - I think we had a vague limit of two floors for anything other than a couple of buildings. 'Cottage/bungalow' could fit in here too.

I think Constance might have found a suitable house down at the west end of the Rue Algernon. There's a reasonably flattish bit of un-roaded ground which Dafydd can take over as his personal forest, provided he can be persuaded that mellyrn won't grow in a rainforest environment...!

I fully intend to move Liu Siyuan to New Cal within a year or two (surprisingly, ancient Chinese cultivators don't really jive with Generic Surface :P), stipulating that he finds a small cottage/bungalow with a big garden somewhere... so I'm pretty sure Dafydd could find something similar!

I think I'm going to have to take a look at the New Cal map and guide again and see if there's anywhere with potential for a big enough garden for Dafydd's comfort, but I know Connie would like to live in a world with, y'know, an actual innate tech level, so it's a distinct possibility. (Though how they'll cope with living somewhere which has actual roads named after them... o.o)
