I've only been here two years... I think. Possibly less. Either way, I haven't met you before, but that's all right. Nice to meet you now. :)

I've just found the reason for why the crappy romance novels seem alike.

It's practically showing a sign to budding original fiction writers saying, "Write Original Suefics! Get Rich!" Maybe this is why I don't read many romance novels? I know this is original fiction and all, but... Erg. Does she even realize what she is saying?

It's been a few, uh, years since I wandered over here. I don''t really know why I'm wandering back now (Five years after I last poked my head in, I do believe)
I guess I missed you guys, or something. (I don't recognize half the names! But those I do recognize, helloooo!) I'm kidding, I must have, or I wouldn't poke my head back in.
And. Well.
I've noticed a nice crop of Mary-Sues and badfic poppin' on up around the Inglourious Basterds section and wondered if any of ya'll nice people had toddled on up to have a look-see yet. (Not sayin' I'll find the time-- I'm right busy now in college so I can't promise anything, I'm just curious. Seems like the sort of fandom that'd lend itself to the medium.)
Anyway...hey. 'Sup. My, my, how you've grown.

Located here.
I am, in fact, not dead. I may not be uploading much else for a good while, though--busy busy busy with school. So, to make up for that, here's this: my finally-completed Makes-Things Project.
The idea is simple: give Makes-Things a proper final curtain. And it is exactly that, though the process of getting it there wasn't fast. This has actually been in the works, on and off, since late May, but it wasn't fully finished and betaed until late September thanks to rewrites, uncooperative muses, and procrastination.
Now, however, I've finished, checked, formatted, and uploaded it. I hope you enjoy reading it; it was a blast to write.
Very massive props go to Techno-Dann, not only for beta-reading this thing several times and lending a very new author the use of Dann, but also for supplying as many things as he could remember about the Macrovirus Invasion. Anyone else who helped contribute details of that day or information about macroviruses/the PPC/PPC gear also gets massive props, even if I can't remember exactly who did.
Lesser but still extensive props go to Cassie Cameron-Young and Neshomeh, for being enthusiastic and helpful beta-readers; Tawaki, for lending me the use of Agent Cameron; Kgarret, for sparking the idea in the first place; and Paddlebrains, for forcibly making me change to using Gdocs and thus making the original document-LJ transition a hundred million times less frustrating.

(Actually, it appears that the lunar calendar drifts out of phase with the seasons, and goes through its own cycle every 33 years, according to Wikipedia. So that might not work, after all.)

Why not the moons? by

Doesn't each moon have a name? I think there's at least a Harvest moon (ah-ha-ha), and ...a Hunting moon? It wouldn't be as simple as a Gregorian, but easy to chart and keep track of, I think.
Though Leto's would work too, and be much simpler.

Only if the month holds a specific occurace or special thing about it. Nice thing about this method is that you can have each group calling a specific month a different name.

Is to use the Gregorian calendar and have the notable months having nicknames. Ala Harvest for September. That way it will be easier for you to understand and you can have fun with it aswell.
Just an idea,

Fantasy Months by

I'm writing a fic for a fandom known as Fable, a sort of medieval swords and sorcery thing. I originally had a very vague and incomplete list of names for each month which partially ripped off The Elder Scrolls calendar. Recently, I've been re-reading the Tortallan stories by Tamora Pierce and re-discovering exactly why I loved them. I've noticed that Pierce uses the Gregorian calendar and so I thought, what the hell, this is too much work, I'll use that too. So I deleted the notes on months and now, two weeks later, I remember why I was making up months in the first place.
It turns out that Fable doesn't use the Gregorian calendar. Damn. The problem is that only one single month has a name: Harvest. Judging by the colouring of the leaves at the time of the month's mentioning (right at the beginning), I think this is some time in Autumn. The problem is, I gave up on the months last time and can't be bothered to try again.
So, I have two options. One: ask you lot to help me craft a fantasy calendar (number of days and months will be Gregorian for simplicity). Two: you lot tell me to just use the Gregorian for simplicity.
I'm voting for option two, myself. It's easier for everyone (including the readers) and allows me to get on with the fic without having to check the month name constantly.
Thanks for any help you can give me,
Jade
